General

Stewards considered an application from rider Ms M Kennedy to be paid a riding fee and any percentages for MISS FURIOSA (Race 1) and ENTERPRISE ELECTRA (Race 5), horses which were starters at today’s meeting and trained by Mr B Gorman. After hearing submissions from both Ms Kennedy and Mr Gorman and reviewing text messages between both parties on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th March, Mr Gorman agreed that a firm commitment had been made to engage Ms Kennedy to ride horses, and as such Stewards ordered riding fees and any prizemoney earned by both horses should be paid to Ms Kennedy.

Following an application from trainer J Duncan, master of apprentice Sophie Blunt, and given the extreme heat conditions over the past 3 days which did not allow her to sufficiently waste, Stewards permitted S Blunt to claim only 3kgs of her 4kgs in Race 3 on SCARE CAMPAIGN.

Race 1 - Maiden Plate (800 METRES)

CHANCE AT MIDNIGHT – Taken inwards near the 600m. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MISTER MONTAGUE – As had not started for a significant period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start.

KUROBUTA – Passing the 100m taken and crowded for room when WET FAT CAT shifted in under riding. Apprentice T Townsend, rider of WET FAT CAT, was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MISS FURIOSA – As had not started for a significant period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. When asked to comment on the performance rider M Powell reported the horse was slow to muster speed in the early stages and when placed under pressure near the 400m finished the event off well, adding that in his opinion MISS FURIOSA would benefit from a step up in distance.

POLYGAL – Commenced to buck shortly after the start and took no further competitive part in the event. Trainer G Schwenke was advised POLYGAL must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

WET FAT CAT – Raced wide for the majority of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn.

MUSSEL LINES – Shifted wider on the track rounding the home turn.

POSITIVE REWARD – Leaving the 700m had to be steadied when crowded for room by CHANCE AT MIDNIGHT which was taken in by LADY SHEILACK. C Small, rider of LADY SHIELACK, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

BAMBOLEO – Rider E Lang reported the horse was inclined to lay out at various stages of the event.

Race 2 - Class B Handicap (800 METRES)

The start of this event was delayed approximately 15 minutes when QAS staff attended an on-course patron.

WARRIOR JACK – Jumped out at the start and bumped BEST SONG. Shifted in despite the efforts of its rider near the 500m.

FRIDAY’S JET – Slow to begin. Made the home turn awkwardly. Rider S McGovern reported the horse was inclined to lay out at various stages of the event.

BEST SONG – Bumped at the start.

TALK CRAZY – Slow to begin.

SPIRIT OF LUCK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PRISCILLA MISS – Began awkwardly. Checked approaching the 500m when WARRIOR JACK, despite the efforts of its rider, shifted in and away from BEST SONG. Laid out from the 400m.

Race 3 - BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (1200 METRES)

PRIMED FOR VICTORY – When asked to comment on her riding out of the horse over the final 100m, apprentice S Mc Cann, who was having her second only race ride, advised instructions were not to pull the whip as PRIMED FOR VICTORY can be inclined to race ungenerously when struck with the whip. Bearing in mind S McCann’s inexperience Stewards noted her explanation.

FUMBLEROOSKI – Slow to begin.

SERTIN – The horse was resaddled after leaving the saddling enclosure. Shortly after the start the saddle shifted forward placing rider Bradley Appo at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. Near the 1100m clipped the heels of MISHANI SCANDAL and blundered when that horse laid out momentarily.

BEEOKAY – When asked to comment on the performance rider N Vuille reported in her opinion the horse did not handle the 7 day back up from its previous start at the GCTC meeting on 11th March 2023.

ROCKET RYAN – Slow to begin.

FLICK – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer K Afford explained in his opinion the horse did not appreciate racing at Toowoomba at its most recent start on 11th March or handle the sand track surface at Bundaberg on 28th January at the start before, adding he was confident of a forward showing on today’s firmer grass surface. Stewards noted the explanation.

ZEELUCK – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running between the 500m and the 100m.

Race 4 - QTIS Maiden Plate (1460 METRES)

This event was broadcast with no public address system.

GLENGARRY – Laid out rounding the home turn.

MA DUSHKA – Slow to begin.

MOMENT TO CONQUER – As had not started for a significant period, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, and was cleared to start. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.

MONT ROYAL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

POP ‘N’ PICKLES – Unable to muster speed in the early stages of the event. Following the disappointing performance trainer, A Park advised she would now review the immediate racing future of POP ‘N’ PICKLES.

Race 5 - BENCHMARK 50 Handicap (1460 METRES)

GRATSIE – Near the 1200m raced in restricted room and had to be eased.

RESET’S SON – Raced wide for the majority of the event. When asked to comment on the performance rider N Fazackerley could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

LADY RASCAL – Rider H Phillips reported the horse was inclined to over-race and hang out at various stages of the event.

SIDEWALK – Slow to begin.

MODERN FAMILY – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

GREYT INTENTIONS – Held up for clear running between the 400m and the home turn.
