RACE 1: GATTON JUNIOR RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1400M

Due to transport difficulties, B. El-Issa was unable to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement, and was replaced by E. Ljung as the rider of I’M NO RUBY.

As D. McIntosh was to be overweight, stewards permitted apprentice B. Stower to replace him as the rider of DAYZARI when no senior rider was available at the weight. D. McIntosh was fined $100.

COME BY OFTEN – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer B. Currie was advised that he will be required to obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding prior to it being permitted to race again.

RACE 2: RAW FRESH (SYDNEY MARKETS) MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

As apprentice B. Appo was ill, L. Tilley was substituted as the rider of SO RUBENESQUE. Apprentice Appo will be required to produce a medical clearance before he resumes riding.

GET SMART – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

CAST OUT – Bumped at the start. Stewards afforded rider M. Cox an opportunity to comment on the horse’s performance. She stated that the gelding had a favourable run throughout, however after she dropped her whip near the 300m, the gelding failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MAKE HAAY – Began awkwardly and made contact with CAST OUT.

SKYLAR’S STAR – Slow to begin.

RACE 3: CELEBRATIONS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H'CAP – 860M

R. McMahon’s riders’ agent was fined $100 for negligently accepting a ride on SEPTIMUS PRIME, an emergency, and failing to advise the rider that the horse had then gained a start in the race. C. Maund was subsequently engaged as the rider of SEPTIMUS PRIME.

DR DEEJAY – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Dipped near the 700m.

EARL OF FORDYCE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground. Raced in restricted room near the 300m and became awkward on heels a short distance later.

MONTY ZOOMS – Hung out across heels after the 500m.

ORCHESTRAL PRINCE – Apprentice M. Powell reported to stewards that the gelding failed to show sufficient speed in the early stages and as a result he settled further back than he anticipated. He added that the gelding would be better suited over further distance than that of today’s event.

ROCK ‘N’ TONE – Late scratching at 8.38 am on veterinary advice when it was found to have an elevated temperature.

JETINTOIT – Began awkwardly.

RACE 4: CPT PROPERTIES 0 – 62 H'CAP – 860M

CASUAL CONNECTIONS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the request of the trainer and was passed fit to race. Slow to begin.

JEPTOO – Hung out for the majority of the event.

LITTLE MISS MOLLY – Slow to begin.

EAGLE’S NEST – Initially slow to begin, then tightened for room between runners. Rider N. Masuda reported that he dropped his whip near the 100m.

OPTIONALITY – Bled both nostrils. Ineligible to race for 3 months, and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward before being permitted to start again.

LITTLE MRS MURPHY – Following the event and on returning to the enclosure, the horse collapsed on the track after a suspected cardiac arrest. The horse was subsequently transported to Gatton University Hospital for an autopsy to be carried out at the request of stewards.

RACE 5: GATTON HAWKS RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1600M

BELDAN – D. Green was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

EAT YOUR HEART OUT – Late scratching at 8 am on veterinary advice when it was found to be lame in the off hind leg.

TUBE RIDE – Began awkwardly.

RACE 6: ROYAL HOTEL COUNTRY QLD SHOWCASE GATTON CUP OPEN H'CAP – 2000M

Following an inquiry apprentice A. Hearn (CAPTAIN FASTBUCK) was fined $200 for changing his gear after weighing out. Apprentice Hearn was also reprimanded regarding the standard of his evidence throughout the inquiry.

QUALITY MAN – Raced wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to take up a position in the lead near the 1200m. Stewards afforded S. Bogenhuber the opportunity to comment on the horse’s performance, which was below market expectation. Jockey Bogenhuber stated that after travelling wide in the early stages, she allowed her mount to stride forward to a leading position, which is the gelding’s usual racing pattern, however from a point leaving the 500m was under pressure and proved disappointing in its finishing effort, and in her opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation.

CHANGLY – Tightened for room at the start. Retired from the event near the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Palmer advised stewards that he was at a loss to explain the performance and added that he would report to stewards anything that comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the performance. Stewards advised Mr Palmer that he would be required to provide a full veterinary clearance for the horse before determining whether it would be required to officially trial.

KAZAN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

NEW ECLIPSE – Inconvenienced near the 1100m and was forced wider on the track for a short distance.

RACE 7: COOK TPT LOCKYER LIGHTING BM75 H'CAP – 1100M

TORNADOES – Raced wide without cover in the early stages. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that her mount made a respiratory noise on pulling up.

ALI MOUNTAIN – Slow to begin.

RACE 8: BRENT ANDREW RACING CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M

ANGELICAN – As the horse had not raced for more than two years, the gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

LE CHACAL – Began awkwardly and then shifted in abruptly after being taken in by EXCEEDINGLY BAY. Had to be steadied from heels near the 900m when racing ungenerously.

EXCEEDINGLY BAY – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
