GENERAL

Due to personal circumstances, M. Hellyer and W. O’Connell were not riding at today’s meeting and replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: A. FITZGERALD CLASS 3 PLATE – 860M

DON’TCRYARGENTINA – Raced three wide for the majority of the event.

SUNFAST – Bumped at the start. Disappointed approaching and leaving the 200m when attempting a narrow run between DON’TCRYARGENTINA and THAT’S JERRY, which shifted out slightly, and had to be steadied and shift wider on the track.

MUSTOLA GOLD – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

PIKARI STAR – Bumped at the start.

Race 2: W.A. MCGOVERN RATINGS BAND 0-70 H'CAP – 1600M

MAC’S ADDICTION – When questioned regarding his riding of the horse, jockey G. Geran stated that his instructions were to allow the gelding plenty of racing room and as a result he elected to shift wider on the track leaving the 500m in order to comply with the instructions. Trainer S. Tregea confirmed the instructions.

KID TYCOON – Following the event, rider L. Rolls advised stewards that in his opinion his mount was never comfortable in today’s track conditions.

SEIZE THE FIRE – Threw its head in the air as the start was effected and then reared, losing considerable ground. Trainer R. Macrae was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

Race 3: J. BRENNAN CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1100M

ROUBAIX – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice B. Derbyshire stated that as she was going to be trapped three wide shortly after the start and unable to clear runners to her inside, she elected to ease and race behind those horses, however after shifting wider in the straight and asking the gelding to improve, the horse failed to let down as expected and in her opinion was disappointing. Trainer B. Andrew stated that he felt the gap between runs and today’s heavy track may have had a bearing on the horse’s overall performance. Stewards noted the explanations.

BEYOND INFINITY – Raced ungenerously a short distance after the start and threw its head in the air.

BEAUFORT GYRE – Bumped at the start.

ROYALTOWN ROAD – Bumped at the start.

ALL OUR WIVES – Began awkwardly and shifted out at the start, bumping another runner. When questioned regarding the improved performance of the horse, in contrast to its previous start at Beaudesert, trainer R. Mackay advised that at its last start, after being caught wide, the horse was ridden back in the field, which was to its detriment. He added that the horse is better suited when ridden on the pace, and on its home track under rain-affected conditions today he expected a forward showing from the mare.

Race 4: K.J. TOOHILL MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view the patrol footage of the start to ascertain whether any runners were not afforded a fair start. After viewing the videos it was established that the barriers of CARNECAR, OUR LITTLE MISSY and RAPPELL failed to open at the time the start was effected and therefore these horses were declared non-runners. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on these horses be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

40 cents in the dollar for the Win #6
26 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
30 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #13
32 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #3

Following the event the barriers were tested to ensure they were operating correctly.

STRIKING WARRIOR – Following an application by apprentice T. Williams, who was originally engaged as the rider of this runner and subsequently replaced by N. Day, that she be paid a riding fee and a winning percentage fee, stewards acting under LR.52 found that as she had been duly engaged she was entitled to the payment of such fees.

WHYNOTROC – Had to be steadied from heels near the 600m and again near the 500m.

ERRANDS – Slow to begin.

LA MASCARA – Began awkwardly after its gate was marginally slow to open. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post.

LOOK I’M DANCING – Raced wide in the early and middle stages before assuming the lead leaving the 700m.

STAR OF AQUARIUS – Shifted in under hard riding near the 50m, making heavy contact with the inside running rail and became unbalanced.

SWEET MARGARET – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 5: N. STAATZ MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

MUSTANG JACK – Began awkwardly. Bled both nostrils. Trainer J. Johnston was advised that the gelding would now be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to racing again must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

BRIGLIADORO – Raced wide throughout.

GOGERTY – Bumped by another runner on jumping away. Inconvenienced leaving the 1300m.

LONHRO’S SPIRIT – Had to be steadied leaving the 1300m and shift inwards to avoid the heels of MUSTANG JACK, which shifted in. Apprentice T. Williams, the rider of MUSTANG JACK, was reprimanded and advised to be clear when crossing runners.

MISSUS MELMAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner.

FANTASY DREAM – Reared as the start was effected and failed to take any part in the race. Connections were advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained prior to the horse being permitted to start again.

RIPPER STREET – Raced wide throughout. Bled both nostrils. As this was the second occasion on which the filly has bled, it will now incur a lifetime ban from racing.

Race 6: R. PORTER MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M

GO GET SUM – Shifted out shortly after the start, making heavy contact with SABIUE, which lost ground.

TYCOON’S PARTY – Slow to begin. On return to scale T. Treichel reported that his mount raced greenly throughout and as a result raced wide for the majority of the event.

DAME DEMMI – Stewards afforded apprentice B. Derbyshire the opportunity to comment on the horse’s performance. She stated that she was instructed to lead on the filly, however the filly failed to show sufficient early speed and as a result settled further back in the field than expected and added that the filly found the line strongly and would be better suited to racing over longer distance.

Race 7: J. HARM CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M

BEAUXBATON – Laid in under pressure away from IT’S ALL IRISH approaching and leaving the 100m, causing CAUGHT A CRACKER to race in restricted room. S. Bogenhuber, the rider of BEAUXBATON, was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances. In this incident G. Goold, the rider of CAUGHT A CRACKER, raised his left elbow. When questioned as to the reason why he had raised his elbow, G. Goold stated that he had done so in an effort to steady himself and attempt to provide more room between runners. Whilst stewards noted his explanation, he was nonetheless advised that in similar circumstances he should not ride in a manner whereby his actions leave him open to question.

IT’S ALL IRISH – On return to scale rider R. Goltz reported that after being fractious in the barriers the gelding was hesitant to begin and as a result was slow into stride.

COURT THE GEISHA – Rider A. Allen reported that he felt the horse was not comfortable in today’s track conditions. Rider A. Allen was fined $500 for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In determining penalty, stewards were of the opinion that A. Allen’s actions had cost his mount 4th placing.

MOUNT PERRY – Raced wide throughout.

MORINGA’S TOOTSIE – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover throughout. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported that in her opinion her mount failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

Race 8: W. MELDRUM QTIS 3YO BM65 H'CAP – 1100M

FAIR RULER – Began awkwardly. When asked to explain the horse’s seemingly poor performance, rider B. Newport stated that as the horse only possesses a short sprint, it was not suited by having to make a longer than anticipated run today. He also added that in his opinion the gelding did not feel entirely comfortable on the heavy track today. A swab sample was taken.

QUICK KETCH – Slow to begin. T. Treichel dropped his whip near the 150m.
Race 9: 1. LYNE CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

VIV’S VEGAS – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start shifted out, resulting in CAPSIZED clipping heels and blundering. Overraced in the early stages and near the 1100m shifted in slightly. Raced wide throughout.

GRACEFUL ROSE – Slow to begin.

CAPSIZED – Had to be checked near the 1100m when attempting a narrow run to the inside of VIV’S VEGAS and shift out, forcing another runner wider. The gelding was then allowed to stride forward to share the lead leaving the 800m.

COCKTAIL THONG – Apprentice B. Derbyshire was fined $100 for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

CRAFTY’S LAST – As apprentice L. Tilley was unable to claim any of his allowance, apprentice B. Newport was substituted as the rider of this runner. L. Tilley was fined $300. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account apprentice Tilley’s recent poor record regarding claiming his allowance. Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
