NORTHERN CRUSADER – Inconvenienced on jumping. Tightened for room near the 600m and had to be steadied, then raced greenly from that point and nearing the home turn hung out severely despite the efforts of the rider. Trainer R. FILLY CHIC – Slow to begin.

WATCHMEN – Jumped awkwardly, hampering another runner.

SPIRIT’S CHOICE – Began slowly and had to be steadied shortly after when placed awkwardly between runners. Bumped near the 600m. Raced wide throughout. SUZI BEL – Tightened for room shortly after the start, clipped heels and lost several lengths.

CONFESSIONS – Steadied from heels when overracing near the 500m. Blundered for a stride near the home turn, resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced shortly thereafter.

SUPERSONIC BOOM – When questioned regarding the horse’s perceived form improvement, trainer R. Lipp stated that at its first run in Toowoomba the horse raced ungenerously and wanted to hang out throughout the event. He noted that the horse pulled up from that event with some mild soreness and the horse was sent for a spell. Mr Lipp added that SUPERSONIC BOOM had won two jump-outs at Toowoomba prior to today’s event, and with the addition of blinkers today he expected a forward showing.

As R. Plumb was indisposed due to illness, M. Hellyer was substituted as the rider of FOURGRANDMAN.

GUACAMOLE – Jumped awkwardly.

MORE FRIENDS – Slow to begin.

NEVER IN DOUBT – Apprentice A. Fancourt reported that her mount raced very fresh and whilst it was not her intention to be as forward, the horse continued to overrace despite her efforts.

NICALATI – Trainer K. Schweida advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a more forward position. The rider attempted to ride forward, however, despite his urgings, the horse settled better than midfield.

AVERNA MOUNTAIN – Proved difficult to load. Connections were advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare for its barrier manners. Slow to begin and failed to muster early speed. Apprentice N. Keal reported that his mount never felt comfortable throughout the event. When questioned regarding his riding of the mare, apprentice N. Keal explained that he expected the horse to begin better than it did today. He said his instructions were to settle in a midfield position. Apprentice Keal added that he may have erred in the early stages by not applying more pressure to his mount in an attempt to maintain a midfield position. After considering the evidence, stewards noted his explanation and strongly advised apprentice Keal to be more vigorous in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

DON’T PANIC – Slow to begin.

Race 4: NIKKI CHALK ART & DESIGN BENCHMARK 58 H'CAP – 1600M

ANNIHILATION – Slipped at the start and lost several lengths. Jockey M. Hellyer reported that the horse did not feel comfortable over the concluding stages, which prevented him from fully testing his mount. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

WHYNOTROC – Trainer M. Kropp was questioned regarding the horse’s seemingly improved performance today. Mr Kropp stated that he felt the step up in distance to a mile was advantageous and he was also of the view that the horse was better suited on today’s racing surface.

FIDGETAR – Raced wide throughout. Tired badly from the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had a deep 1cm cut to the medial side of the right knee with no other significant findings.
