Race 1: LVTC CHARITY GOLF DAY JUNE 23 Maiden Handicap 1100 metres

Correct weight was delayed allowing rider of fourth placegetter B. Andrew (rider of THE SNUGGLER) to view an incident at the start. After doing so, rider B. Andrew elected to take no further action and Stewards declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers.

SOMBANI – Shifted out shortly after the start. Raced greenly in the early stages of the event. Raced wide throughout. Weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations to the near hind heel bulb, consistent with being galloped on.

MALOTRU – Trainer J. Bruce was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider. Connections also advised of a change of tactics in that MALOTRU will be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly. Shifted out shortly after the start.

NIRVANA DREAM – Slow to begin.

LISAILI – Began very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a laceration to the near fore cannon, which was treated on course. Connections were advised that LISAILI will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

SPOT ON READY – Jockey S. Apthorpe, rider of SPOT ON READY, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race.

THE SNUGGLER – Checked at the start, between LISAILI which shifted out abruptly despite efforts of its rider and GIVE ME SOMETHING which was taken in by SIR JOHNY. Consequently, THE SNUGGLER settled some distance off the main body of the field in the early stages of the event. Made the home turn wide.

AMALFI QUEEN – Slow to begin.

Race 2: BRENDON LESTER CONSTRUCTION BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 860 metres

TURBOART – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported at scale that his mount was inclined to lay in at various stages throughout the event. As a result, in the home straight apprentice Wheeler was unable to fully test TURBOART in his usual manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

MISS BARTY – Near the 200m, apprentice J. Molloy dropped his whip.

POLYLITHIC (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages.

SWAN ISLAND – Slow to begin.

GREY NOISE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice T. Townsend stated that after being slow to begin, the horse settled further back than its previous start when leading. Apprentice Townsend added that GREY NOISE was significantly up in class today, and was inclined to race greenly when racing between runners, and in her opinion, is better suited when racing on the fence. Stewards noted her explanation.

Race 3: HAYMANS GATTON Maiden Handicap 1600 metres

HONESTYANDLOYALTY (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority.

NO DOUBLE DIPPING – Slow to begin.

ALL PURPOSE (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CHANCE WITH WOLVES – Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

FANTWA – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer M. Wilson stated that with the addition of a tongue tie the horse settled better in the run, and with a significant class drop from a metropolitan midweek at its last start, he expected a forward showing in today’s event.

MEDIEVAL CROWN (NZ) – Slow to begin.

OBSIDIAN ROSE – Raced wide throughout.

MISS MANSFIELD – Slow to begin.

Race 4: CHRIS WILDIE CELEBRATES 60 Class 3 Plate 1600 metres

HEEBEE RIGHT MATE – Slow to begin. Raced wide during the early stages.

RANGI TOA – Jockey J. Adams, rider of RANGI TOA, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, being one more than permitted.

BRING THE STARS – Approaching the 1200m, when the race of the race steadied, BRING THE STARS had to be steadied from the heels of ARLIZAR.

BLUE CORNER – Declared a late scratching at 1.14pm due to transport difficulties.

LITTLE MISS PIXIE – When asked to comment, apprentice J. Molloy stated that it had been his intention to settle in a more forward position if possible. However, after obtaining cover one-off soon after the start, he was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated after runners to his outside improved. He added that when the tempo of the race increased passing the 800m, LITTLE MISS PIXIE was somewhat flat-footed, however finished the race off strongly from the 500m.

Race 5: TAB IPSWICH CUP TIX ON SALE QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1400 metres

On arrival at the barriers, BREAKWATER BOY became fractious, reared, and dislodged apprentice J. Molloy. In this incident BREAKWATER BOY displaced its bridle and blinkers and galloped a short distance to the 1600m chute before being recaptured. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be stepping short in the off hindleg and was declared a late scratching at 2.46pm on veterinary advice. Apprentice J. Molloy was examined by QAS prior to race 6, and stood down from his remaining engagements. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on BREAKWATER BOY be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:

1st UNDER THE LIMIT – 20c win, 18c place.
2nd CLASSIQUE GAL – 23c place
3rd BETTER CLASS – 20c place

RAPID OUTLAW – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Graham. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment, jockey M. McGillivray stated that after being bumped at the start, the horse settled further back in the field than anticipated and when shifted wider from the 700m improved into the race before peaking on its run in the home straight.

BLAZING LOVE – After arrival on course, BLAZING LOVE was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Jumped in at the start and bumped with RAPID OUTLAW. Near the 100m, steadied from the heels of BETTER CLASS which rolled in under pressure, obliging BLAZING LOVE to shift to the outside of that runner’s heels a short distance later. Apprentice B. Wheeler, rider of BETTER CLASS, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

BETTER CLASS – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination determined the gelding to have sustained an abrasion to the off fore pastern and was treated on course.

Race 6: MEMORIAL RACEDAY GATTON JUNE 9 BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1400 metres

The start of the race was delayed when a false start was declared under AR202(1)(a) at the first attempt to start the race due to a barrier malfunction. All runners were restrained up by their riders after travelling a short distance, before being returned to the saddling enclosure for veterinary staff to conduct assessments on each runner. All horses were cleared to start with the exception of ALAMIRA which was scratched at the request of trainer A. Neasham at 3.27pm. On declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets on ALAMIRA be refunded in full and the following deductions to apply:

1st BIGGIE – 52c win, 34c place
2nd HARRYANDTHETIGER – 34c place
3rd HE’S THE NEWS – 27c place.

Prior to the second attempt to commence the race the barriers were tested and found to be in a suitable working order.

DIS GO BOOM – As apprentice J. Molloy was stood down by QAS staff, he was replaced by apprentice M. Philpot. Apprentice J. Molloy was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to riding again. Approaching the winning post, had to be eased when BIGGIE rolled in under pressure over the concluding stages.

LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Approaching the 100m, improved on to the heels of KIKI COCO and obliged to shift to the outside of that runner to secure clear running.

KIKI COCO – Began awkwardly.

SPARKY GIRL – Began very awkwardly and lost ground, before being shifted across heels to a rearward position closer the rail.

Race 7: REDMOND PRODUCE LOCKYER LIGHTNING JUNE 24 WINTER SPRINTERS SERIES – HEAT – BENCHMARK 75 HCP 1100 metres

JEMELDI – Began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in rider B. Wheeler becoming awkward in the saddle.

AMERICAN SAINT – Crowded at the start between runners. Improved onto heels over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested by its rider. Jockey J. Stanley reported that the horse was first up today after a spell and was not suited by the fast early pace of the race, and despite his urgings was unable to maintain contact with the main body of the field . He added that AMERICAN SAINT’s best form is over a longer distance than that of today’s event. Stewards noted his explanation.

SLY CORNER (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout. MONDAY MONDAY – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight, resulting in BOOMI’S BUDDY being momentarily hampered near the 100m.

ISLES OF AVALON – Near the 800m, when over racing, shifted wider on the track. When asked to comment the performance, jockey M. Powell stated that the horse did not appreciate racing between runners in the early stages of the event, and that ISLES OF AVALON continued to race ungenerously between runners from the 500m and in his opinion this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance of the mare today.

AWESOME AUDREY – Slow to begin.
