GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting-
 
Race 1 – LYNDALL – S. Galloway +0.5kg (54.5kg)
 
Race 1: ADAM MILLER MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP    1540 M
 
DAMIANI – Apprentice J. Franklin reported whilst he was not dissatisfied with the performance of the mare, he thought the big weight impost may not assisted, with the mare possibly looking for races over a further distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BELLE'S BOY – Raced three-wide without cover in the early stages until crossing to race outside the leader near the 1100m.
 
CADOUIN – Raced wide throughout.
 
LYNDALL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey S. Galloway was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
Race 2: GOLD COAST TITANS CLASS 2 PLATE 1540 M
 
JIMMY NEUTRON – Jockey R. Jamieson dropped her whip near the 200m.
 
CLUSTER'S REIN – Slow to begin.
 
GLEAMING LEGEND (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Near the 900m, steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JIMMY NEUTRON. Eased down from the 200m. Apprentice J. Williams reported the gelding travelled well throughout, however; did not run on as expected when under pressure in the straight. He added the gelding did not appreciate the kickback and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding be lame in the off foreleg. Whilst Trainer M. Wilson advised it is the intention to spell the gelding, he was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to next racing.
 
BLUE VELVET – Raced wide without cover from the 900m.
 
MY GIRL SKY – Raced three-wide without cover in the early stages until crossing to race outside the leader near the 1000m.
 
Race 3: NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1900 M
 
FISCH TANK – Began awkwardly.
 
WORD FROM ABOVE – Passing the 1600m, steadied from the heels of SEA OF QI which was shifting in. Apprentice J. Williams was fined $1000 after pleading guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. In considering penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, the whip penalty guidelines, and his poor record in relation to this rule. (14th occasion in the last 6 months).
 
RUDIMENTARY – Slow to begin.
 
SEA OF QI – Jockey N. Thomas reported his mount hung out for the major part of the race and when under pressure in the home straight, lay in. He added the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer T. Timbery confirmed it is now the intention to spell the gelding.
 
NEWMARKET MISS – Bumped on jumping.
 
ALALTUN (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped NEWMARKET MISS.
 
Race 4: VALE WAYNE PURCHASE CLASS 3 HANDICAP         2000 M
 
LADY TOWNSON (NZ) – Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
DEVINE FALLS – After making contact with a fence before entering the mounting yard, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey C. Taylor reported the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise during the race, commenced to weaken from the 400m and was eased down from the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer G. Sitek was advised the horse would require a veterinary certificate, inclusive of the results of an endoscopic examination, and would also have to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a Jumpout, prior to next racing.
 
DRAKE PASSAGE (NZ) – Jockey M. Cahill was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
BAY STREET – Slow into stride. Raced wide for the majority.
 
Race 5: BRISBANE BRONCOS MAIDEN PLATE 1900 M
 
JO JO ZIP – Jockey M. Cahill was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
LICENCE TO THRILL – Raced wide throughout.
 
DUMA – Hung out badly in the home straight. Apprentice J. Williams reported his mount hung out for the majority of the race and didn’t appreciate racing on the synthetic surface. Cast its off-hind plate in running.A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. A sample was taken for analysis.
 
TROUBLESHOOT (NZ) – Cast its off-hind plate in the tie-up stalls and as it was unable to be refitted, was permitted to run bare behind. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide throughout. Jockey M. Schrapel was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
ANGRY BET – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
Race 6: BRISBANE LIONS MAIDEN PLATE 1050 M
 
The start of this race was delayed when PILLAGER refused to load into the barriers. Subsequently, PILLAGER was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 4:11pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PILLAGER be refunded with the following deductions to apply –  
 
1st place – 12c the place, 14c the place
2nd place – 10c the place
3rd place – 10c the place
 
Trainer L. Freedman was advised the gelding would have to perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official trial prior to next racing.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Starter S. Marr advised Stewards that when he went to effect the start, he found there was no power in the button and then when he moved the starting button, the gates opened. On review of the footage, Stewards were satisfied this incident did not materially prejudice the chance of any horse.
 
GUS THE BUS – Passing the 150m, became unbalanced when bumped by NOW AND BEN, which shifted out when racing greenly.
 
LITTLE RED POWER – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
NOW AND BEN – On leaving the gates, shifted in and caused some inconvenience to TRACONI’S PRIDE and SPECIALTIE. Jockey M. Cahill reported his mount raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
TRACONI'S PRIDE – Inconvenienced on jumping.
 
BOOM CRUSHER – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SPECIALTIE – Inconvenienced on jumping. Passing the 900m, steadied when racing tight between BOOM CRUSHER which shifted in slightly and TRACONI’S PRIDE, which shifted out when close to the heels of GUS THE BUS.
 
MARALAH – Raced wide throughout.
 
NEEDAWINNA – Began awkwardly with its head up.
 
Race 7: DOLPHINS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
HULKAMANIA – Raced wide throughout.
 
HER EXPENSE – Slow into stride and then from the wide gate was restrained to take up a rearward position. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey P. Hammersley was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
JACK'S BOOM – Inconvenienced on jumping.
 
WHISKEY DANCER – Apprentice J. Williams reported his mount raced flat and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. The stable advised that the filly would now be sent for a spell.
 
PHARMA BOOM – Slow to muster early speed.
 
FAITHFUL MARYANNE – Raced wide throughout.
