Race 2: BOSTIK SMART ADHESIVES MAIDEN PLATE      1540 M

KLANG BOY – Late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12:13pm after sustaining multiple lacerations to the off-hind leg whilst being transported to the track. Trainer B. Everingham was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing or trialling.

NAILS AND PRIDE – Jockey M. Cahill reported the gelding raced keenly in the middle stages.

SIERRA DE GREDOS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid out near the 1400m. Raced wide throughout. Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight. Jockey E. I'M INSPIRED (NZ) – Began awkwardly, lost ground and was then steadied when tightened for room between runners. Carried wider near the 1400m when SIERRA DE GREDOS laid out. Weakened from the 400m. Apprentice J. Williams reported the gelding didn’t appreciate racing on the synthetic surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer’s representative Mr B. Hull was advised the gelding would have to perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official trial prior to next racing.

PARCHEMIN – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

CYBERWARS – Began awkwardly.

Race 3: SEQ FORMWORK BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1540 M

AVENUE OF STARS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. When questioned regarding her riding of the gelding, apprentice E. Lang stated from the favourable gate, the gelding was expected to be in a forward position, however; if other runners were looking to cross and take the lead, she was happy to take a sit, bearing in mind the large weight impost today. She said she was happy to let GENTLE PRINCE cross near the 1000m with the view of taking a sit behind that horse, however; when PAGATO improved to the outside of GENTLE PRINCE shortly after, GENTLE PRINCE then steadied to allow PAGATO to cross and lead, which then placed AVENUE OF STARS much further back than intended. She added AVENUE OF STARS then was off the bit from the 600m until after straightening, where the gelding then had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200m, before shifting to the extreme outside, at which point AVENUE OF STARS made late ground in the run to the winning post.

TOO MUCH CLASS – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 50m, laid in and steadied from the heels of BIE’RES.

GENTLE PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Laid out near the 900m and when racing tight to the inside of PAGATO.

KERCHAK (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Race 4: DEWALT GUARANTEED TOUGH BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP       1100 M

I AM VOODOO – Raced wide without cover throughout.

FLEUR DE ROSE – Slow to muster early speed.

Race 6: MAKITA AUSTRALIA QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP    1200 M

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Steward B. Wright on behalf of the connections of the 3rd placed HYDROELECTRIC (E. Chaves) against WEEKEND ARTIST (J. Williams) being declared 2nd place, alleging indirect interference near the 900m. On the evidence, Stewards were of the view that near the 900m WEEKEND ARTIST shifted in when not clear of BALLROOM BLITZ was taken into the line of HYDROELECTRIC, resulting in that runner being tightened for room to its inside and checked. As the Stewards were of the view that had the interference to HYDROELECTRIC not occurred, that gelding would have finished ahead of WEEKEND ARTIST at the end of the race and therefore upheld the objection. Correct weight was declared on the new numbers 4,3,6,12.

MEANASENKO – Began awkwardly and lost significant ground.

HYDROELECTRIC – Stewards permitted the gelding to race without the tongue tie as advertised. Began awkwardly. Near the 900m, was tightened for room and had to check.

DIBBA DOBBA – Beaten favourite. Apprentice E. Lang reported the filly didn’t appreciate racing on the synthetic racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

OUR BLING – Near the 900m, momentarily tightened.

PARRA – Slow into stride. Near the 1000m, shifted in and away from THUNDER SHANGHAI, which was shifting in abruptly and inconvenienced DELIBES.

THUNDER SHANGHAI – Proved difficult to load. Trainer P. Robl was advised a warning would be placed against THUNDER SHANGHAI, which was having its first race start, barrier manners.

DELIBES – Proved difficult to load. Trainer M. Brosnan was advised the gelding would be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a jump out, prior to next racing. Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced near the 1000m.

BALLROOM BLITZ – Inconvenienced near the 900m.

THREDBO – Late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3:38pm after becoming fractious in the tie-up stalls and sustaining a laceration to its left eye. Trainer S. Jokic was advised the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing or trialling.

Apprentice J. Williams the rider of WEEKEND ARTIST pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 900m when not clear of BALLROOM BLITZ, carrying that horse in across the running of HYDROELECTRIC resulting in that runner being checked. Apprentice Williams’ permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight the 30th of March 2024 and to expire midnight the 10th of April 2024. When considering penalty, account was taken of apprentice Williams’ guilty plea, good record in relation to this rule, his status as an apprentice jockey and the level of carelessness, which was deemed to be in the mid-range.

Race 7: TOTAL TOOLS BURLEIGH WATERS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP       1540 M

MAGIC MIKEY (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide without cover throughout.

SARSEN – Began awkwardly.

LIVINGSTONES – Near the 500m, momentarily laid in before being corrected. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CRAZY ABOUT YOU – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start was taken in by YOUNG PIP (P. Hammersley) onto the heels of SARSEN, resulting in CRAZY ABOUT YOU clipping that runner’s heels and blundering. Jockey P. Hammersley was reprimanded for this incident.
