GENERAL
 
As jockey M. Cahill had transportation difficulties and was unable to make his ride in race 4 and jockey A. Spinks was ill and not riding at today’s meeting, rider replacements were made as per the Stewards summary.
 
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting:
 
Race 1 – AGRIMONY – L. Miller +1kg (55.5kg)
 
Race 1: PORTERS LIQUOR BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1900 M
 
PAGATO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice L. Barr was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted.
 
TROPIC SANDS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after contacting a rail when leaving the mounting enclosure. Trainer’s representative was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s pre-race manners. Slow into stride. Raced three-wide without cover from the 700m. Laid out approaching the 400m.
 
AGRIMONY (GB) – Jockey L. Miller was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
 
ROCK WAR – Trainer K. Loy explained the intention had been to take a more forward position at the previous start on 15th March 2024, however; was not able to do so. She said the instructions today were similar and after the mare began well from a favourable gate, was able to lead the event. Ms Loy was reminded of her obligations regarding any proposed change of tactics.
 
Race 2: IGA LIQUOR CLASS 2 PLATE 1050 M
 
SONNY DAZE – Approaching the 700m, steadied from the heels of BETTER THAN BOOZE (J. Williams), which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice J. Williams was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) for this incident.
 
GIRRAMAY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after having not started for a long period of time. Slow to begin and then failed to muster speed. Tailed the field throughout.
 
Race 3: CLUB PARTNERS MAIDEN PLATE 1050 M

CRYPTO KING – Refused to load into the barriers and was a late withdrawal at 2:32pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all monies invested on CRYPTO KING be refunded with the following deductions to apply –  
 
1st place – 34c the win, 24c the place
2nd place – 25c the place
3rd place – 18c the place
 
Trainer’s representative was advised the gelding would be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a jump out, prior to next racing.
 
DESTINY GUNGHO – Raced wide without cover for most of the event.
 
ATLANTIC LACE – Stewards permitted apprentice C. Collis to replace jockey A. Spinks as no senior rider was available to ride at the weight.
 
MISS WEDNESDAY – Slow to begin.
 
STELLAR TRIXIE – After the start, was tightened for room between ELECTRIC MISS and LITTLEMISSCANCAN. Raced wide without cover from the 700m. Raced greenly in the middle stages.
 
Race 4: THE BOTTLE-O MAIDEN HANDICAP 1540 M
 
TRAPEZE FLYER – Shortly after the start commenced to buck, shifted out bumping VIDYA and was pulled up, taking no further part in the event. Trainer L. Abbott was advised the gelding would be required to perform to the satisfaction of Stewards in an Official trial, prior to next racing.
 
HIDEYO – Began awkwardly and then was tightened by TRAPEZE FLYER, which shifted out.
 
IRENE'S BEST – Tightened for room on jumping when PIG IN THE CITY shifted in.
 
BETTER THAN LOVE – Got its leg over in the barriers, was removed and underwent a veterinary examination. Apprentice J. Williams reported the gelding did not feel right in at action when placed under pressure in the home straight and was eased down from passing the 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable in the following days.
 
VIDYA – Bumped and became unbalanced shortly after the start.
 
PIG IN THE CITY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers after slipping in the tie-up stalls.
 
Race 5: CELLARBRATIONS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1540 M
 
Apprentice J. Williams, rider of the 2nd placed SARSEN reviewed the Stewards patrol footage of the home straight before deciding not to lodge an objection against the winner, TAKUNAI.
 
DIMENSION – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
SARSEN – Near the 250m was brushed by TAKUNAI, which rolled out slightly. Over the concluding stages, laid in under pressure.
 
STEP ON FIRE – Raced wide without cover from the 600m.
 
BLUE SWIMMER – Apprentice C. Collis reported the gelding did not feel right in its action when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable in the following days.
 
Race 6: AUSTRALIAN LIQUOR MARKETERS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
I AM A HIT – Near the 900m, checked from the heels of SHERWOOD’S ONE (W. O’Connell), which shifted in before being corrected. In all the circumstances, Jockey W. O’Connell was advised to exercise far greater care.
 
ROCKY ROGUE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHERWOOD'S ONE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a severe laceration to the near hindleg. Trainer M. Laine was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming racing or trialling. Jockey W. O’Connell was reprimanded pursuant to AR210(1) for failing to weigh in after the race on the unplaced mare.
 
Race 7: THIRSTY CAMEL BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
Apprentice J. Williams, rider of the 5th placed GALAXY GENERAL reviewed the Stewards patrol footage of the 600m and the home straight before deciding not to lodge an objection against the 3rd placed I AM VOODOO.
 
I AM VOODOO – Near the 250m, contacted the forequarters of OUR FREE SPIRIT and became unbalanced.
 
MINKS STAR – Slow into stride. Near the 250m, turned sideways and became unbalanced when bumped by OUR FREE SPIRIT.
 
OUR FREE SPIRIT – Near the 250m, was severely checked between MINKS STAR (C. Collis), which was attempting to shift out from behind CAMPAI and I AM VOODOO (N. Callow), which shifted in under pressure before being corrected. Note was taken of the contact made by I AM VOODOO on the shoulder of OUR FREE SPIRIT, which then contacted the hindquarters of MINKS STAR and was turned in, before jockey N. Callow was able to correct his mount. Subsequently, apprentice C. Collis was reprimanded, and jockey N. Callow was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a).
 
TWO SMOKIN BARRELS – Inconvenienced at the start when CONSTANT CAFE shifted in.
 
FULL CRY – Near the 600m, momentarily crowded.
 
CONSTANT CAFE – Shifted in on jumping.
