GENERAL:

Stewards inspected the track this morning prior to the scratching deadline and deemed the 900m and 1200m shutes unsuitable for racing. As a consequence Races 1 and 2 which were originally scheduled over 900m were increased to 1100m. The 1100m and 1200m races were started on the course proper.

Race 1: Cucina Vivo At Jupiters QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1100m
1st – Okomoto Ignimoto 2nd – Teekayo

POMPEII FLYER was a late scratching at 7.42 a.m. when trainer Q. Kearney became aware of the amendments to the distance of this race.

No racing incidents.

Race 2: Kiyomi At Jupiters Class 2 H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Brigadoon Legend 2nd – Tressles 3rd – Panch Kalyan 4th – Shandien

The start was delayed when SHE HAS THE MOVES became fractious in the barriers and the mare’s head made heavy contact with the face of App A. Hearn. As a consequence App Hearn was unable to fulfil his engagement and SHE HAS THE MOVES was declared a late scratching at 12.52 p.m. All monies invested on SHE HAS THE MOVES were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 12.52 p.m:

15 cents in the dollar for the win - # 6 (BRIGADOON LEGEND)
15 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #6 (BRIGADOON LEGEND)
15 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - #2 (TRESSLES)

App Hearn was examined by the Club’s Doctor following this race and stood down from his remaining engagements and replaced as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Following a further examination after the running of Race 3 App Hearn was taken to hospital for observation.

No racing incidents.

Race 3: Legends Live At Jupiters QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Choitier 2nd – Grandpie Dragon 3rd – Moringa’s Dolly 4th – Wulfies Lady

The start was delayed when GRANDPIE DRAGON proved difficult to load. Stable representative M. Johnson was advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to the racing again.

WULFIES LADY – Jockey M. Hellyer was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. Jockey Hellyer reported that the filly failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

Race 4: Atrium Bar At Jupiters Maiden Plate – 1100m
1st – Spirit Torque 2nd – Tropical 3rd – Miss Jody’s Joy 4th – Miranda Jane

Due to personal reasons stewards permitted J. Morris to be replaced by L. Rolls as the rider of TROPICAL.

MISS JODY’S JOY – A veterinary examination prior to the race after it was fractious in the enclosure cleared the mare to race.

IN BEIJING – Slipped behind on jumping away. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a small laceration to the off hind canon.

Race 5: # Pointsforhope With Jupiters Hotel & Casino Maiden Plate – 1800m
1st – Hollywood Rain 2nd – Slalom 3rd – Duke Of Kingsford 4th – A Money Trail

ROCKWATER – Slow to begin and was then inconvenienced shortly thereafter.

KOBI CREEK – Overraced in the early stages and then raced wide for the majority of the race.

FREDRIKSEN – Weakened from a point leaving the 800m. Raced wide throughout. When questioned as to the performance of the gelding jockey Matthew Palmer stated that he was instructed to try and obtain a handy position. Jockey Palmer added that the gelding failed to muster the required speed in the early stages and then raced wide for the majority of the event. Jockey Palmer further added that leaving the 800m the gelding weakened noticeably and failed to take any further competitive part in the race. Jockey Palmer was of the view that the gelding failed to stretch out in today’s track conditions. Trainer B. Guy stated that the gelding will now be retired from his stable. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

DUKE OF KINGSFORD – Hung in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

ART OF PURFECTION – Jockey L. Cheshire reported that the gelding failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no abnormalities.

FREEZELIGHTNING - Jockey M. Hellyer was fined $100.00 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 7: J Bar At Jupiters Class 5 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Epic Choice 2nd – Tertiary 3rd – Micken 4th – Our Grand Finale

OUR GRAND FINALE – As L. Rolls was overweight stewards permitted T. Treichel to be substituted as the rider. L. Rolls was subsequently fined $100.00.

Correct weight was delayed to enable stewards to review the patrol footage to ascertain whether a false start had occurred. After taking evidence from the starter S. Andrews and the riders and trainers of the first four placegetters, it was established that as Mr Andrews effected the start TERTIARY lunged forward resulting in its barrier gate opening marginally quicker than the barrier gates of the other runners. Taking into account the fact that Mr Andrews had effected the start, the positions in running and the significant margin from TERTIARY the 2nd placegetter to MICKEN and OUR GRAND FINALE stewards were of the view that this incident had no material affect on the placings and subsequently declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

RAINBOW MAGIC – Hampered on jumping away. Jockey J. Kokotajlo reported that the gelding failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

LITTLE LONG HORN – Steadied and lost ground at the start when tightened for room. Jockey D. Griffin reported that the gelding failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
