SUPPLEMENTARY:

From Gold Coast Turf Club Meeting 1/8/2015 – Race 7
Trainer J. Petersen reported that THE LYNCHES had pulled up well following its disappointing performance. Mr Petersen noted that this had been the gelding’s first start for him and had previously been working without the gear that it raced in on this occasion. Mr Petersen stated the nose roll and tongue tie had now been removed and that the gelding had subsequently pleased him in an official trial following its disappointing performance.

Track rider K. Hollis was fined $100.00 for using his mobile phone whilst mounted on a horse prior to riding that horse in work.
Race 1: Conxion Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Chaste Angel 2nd – Red Hot Element 3rd – Stellar Jewel 4th – Vintage Choice

VINTAGE CHOICE – Heavily buffeted between runners shortly after the start and as a result became unbalanced.

RED HOT ELEMENT - Heavily buffeted between runners shortly after the start and as a result became unbalanced. Near the 700m shifted in and bumped CRACK OF DAWN.

GRACEFUL ROSE – Bumped shortly after the start. Overraced in the middle stages and near the 500m had to be steadied from the heels of HAVEN GAL.

SPIRIT ROCK - Bumped shortly after the start.

FRIENDS COME FIRST - Bumped shortly after the start.

CRACK OF DAWN - Bumped shortly after the start. Bumped near 700m and then had to be steadied from the heels of ANDARI.

HAVEN GAL – Shortly after the start shifted out and bumped CRACK OF DAWN.

STELLAR JEWEL – Hung in under pressure over the final 200m.

ANGEL MIO – When questioned as to his riding of the mare in the home straight jockey K. Wharton stated that he had difficulty obtaining clear running during the early stages of the home straight. However, when afforded clear running passing the 200m the mare failed to quicken and in his opinion was immediately under pressure. Jockey Wharton added that for this reason he elected not to ride the mare out with his usual vigour over the final 100m. Whilst noting his explanation stewards reminded jockey Wharton of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the end of the race. Trainer R. Christsen noted that the mare was showing signs of coming into season prior to the race, which he felt may have had a bearing on the horse’s performance today.

Race 2: Gold Coast Tour Alliance Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Special Jay 2nd – Flinders Deagon 3rd – Carnecar 4th – Paleface Ali

BEAT STREET was declared at late scratching at 12.10 p.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after the colt was found to be sore in the off fore leg. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to BEAT STREET racing again.

The start was delayed when jockey A. Spinks was dislodged from JACK BE FAST during the preliminary. The colt then galloped a substantial distance and as a result was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 1.04 p.m. All monies invested on JACK BE FAST were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 1.04 p.m.:

AMEX IMAGE – Began awkwardly, shifted out bumping PALEFACE ALI and as a result became unbalanced and lost ground.

PALEFACE ALI – Bumped on jumping away.

MONTE AGAR – Slow to begin.

GLAMORGAN BOY – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

CARNECAR – Raced 3 wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

FLINDERS DEAGON – Overraced in the middle stages. Shifted out under pressure over the final 100m.

Race 3: Skypoint QTIS 3YO Colts & Geldings Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Five Spices 2nd – American Hero 3rd – King Archer 4th – Hope Island

THERMAL UNIT – Slow to begin.

WINTON STREET – Began awkwardly, shifted out and hampered HOPE ISLAND. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Near the 200m had to be steadied from the heels of HIGH COST and was then obliged to shift in to secure clear running. Raced wide throughout. Jockey J. Morris reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout the race.

HOPE ISLAND – Hampered on jumping away and lost ground. Held up rounding home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

CAPTAIN’S SON – Began awkwardly and shortly thereafter had to be steadied from the heels of ROCK OF MAHAL. When questioned as to the performance App T. Brooker stated that after beginning awkwardly the colt raced strongly in the early and middle stages. App Brooker added that the colt was then under pressure leaving the 500m, which enabled NORTHERN ZOOM, the eventual winner, to improve to her inside. App Brooker also added that the colt failed to respond to her riding in the straight and proved disappointing. App Brooker was of the view that the colt may benefit from the addition of a tongue tie. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

BRIGADOON SPIRIT – Began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. When asked to comment on the performance jockey N. Day stated that the gelding was still somewhat immature and in his opinion would benefit from a spell. Connections indicated that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.

FLYING LABELLE – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the home straight.

HIGH COST – Slow to begin. Hung out rounding the home turn. Raced 4 wide without cover for the majority.

ROCK OF MAHAL – Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
DEEP CHARTREUSE – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

FIVE SPICES – When questioned as to the improved performance stable representative B. Rogers stated that the gelding raced greenly in its first start over 900m. Mr Rogers stated that the addition of blinkers and the step up in distance to 1200m today contributed to the gelding’s improved

Race 4: Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Fillies & Mares BenchMark 65 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Innocent 2nd – Grecian Summer 3rd – Sagacious Flame 4th – Olive Com

The start was delayed to hold for an interstate event.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed so as to allow the connections of 2nd placegetter GRECIAN SUMMER to view the official print. After viewing the photo jockey D. Griffin and stable representative D. Guy made application that the finishing order be reviewed. After taking evidence from the connections and the Judge Mr S. McMahon the stewards could not be satisfied the Judge had made a mistake in the determination of the finishing order pursuant to AR156(3) and as such were satisfied with the Judge’s original placings. Correct weight was subsequently declared on the numbers semaphored.

DEVIL MISS – Stood flatfooted as the start was effected and lost ground.

OLIVE COM – Slow to begin.

Race 5: Scenic Day Tour Group Ratings Band 0-75 H’Cap – 900m
1st – Mount Kosciuszko 2nd – Sassy Tycoon 3rd – Lady Schiller 4th – Punjab Rocket

SASSY TYCOON – After being fractious in the enclosure the mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to start. Blundered on jumping away.

DEEPEST – Began awkwardly and made contact with the near side barrier gate and then bumped LANDALE. When questioned as to the performance jockey T. Treichel stated that the gelding commenced to weaken from a point leaving the 200m. Jockey Treichel stated that the gelding felt short in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer P. Balzen will be advised that the results of an ECG along with an official trial will be required prior to the gelding’s next start.

LANDALE – Bumped on jumping away and became unbalanced.

LADY SCHILLER – Slow to begin.

PUNJAB ROCKET – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

CASINO BRIDE – Raced wide throughout.

MOUNT KOSCIUSZKO – When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance trainer B. Costello stated that the gelding had previously performed well in stronger company however, had tapered off in form at the end of its previous campaign. Mr Costello noted that the gelding had previously performed well when first up from a spell and this contributed to the gelding’s improved performance today.

Race 6: Dreamworld Class 1 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Torbay 2nd – Savvy Girl 3rd – Murta Cape 4th – Yamanners

FAMECHON BARONESS – Overraced in the early stages.

HIGH ADVERSITY – Near the 1500m had to be steadied from the heels of YAMANNERS.

TORBAY – Held up rounding the home turn.

MURTA CAPE – Near the 400m was forced wider by TORBAY shifted out to obtain clear running. When questioned as to the tactics jockey A. Allen stated his intention was to obtain a position just off the speed. Jockey Allen added that after beginning only fairly he allowed SAVVY GIRL to cross forward of him so as to obtain his intended position. However, near the 1500m had to steady the mare when tightened for room by another runner, which resulted in him settling further back than anticipated. Stewards noted his explanation.

Race 7: Royal Caribbean International Class 2 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Te Rux 2nd – Shadow Doll 3rd – Manhattan Rock 4th – Golfing

MORE IMPACT – Slow to begin. Upon return to scale jockey G. Goold reported that the gelding was inclined to lay in for the majority of the race.

WHO’S THAT CAT – Inconvenienced near the 100m when awkwardly placed at the heels of MANHATTAN ROCK.

DELVAUX – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey A. Spinks stated that he was not given any specific instructions today. Jockey Spinks added that he was concerned that the mare was forced to race further back than anticipated at its previous start and as such elected to ride the mare out of the barriers in an effort to obtain a midfield position however, when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to allow the mare to stride forward to obtain a handy position. Jockey Spinks expressed his disappointment in the mare’s performance today and was of the opinion that it may have jarred up on today’s surface.

GOLFING – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey C. Whiteley stated that he was instructed to obtain cover as soon as possible after the start as the gelding has been inclined to overrace in previous starts. Jockey Whiteley added that for this reason he elected to obtain a trailing position behind TE RUX in the early stages. However, the gelding was again inclined to overrace during the early stages of the race.

Race 8: Skyline Restaurant Colts, Geldings & Entires BenchMark 65 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Roubaix 2nd – Moment of Impact 3rd – Denmark Hill 4th – Top Royal

TOP ROYAL – Began awkwardly.

SNITZIOLA – Began awkwardly. Raced extremely wide without cover throughout. Jockey G. Goold reported to stewards that he felt the gelding put in an awkward stride near the 250m and felt something may have been amiss and on that basis did not ride the horse to the line. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.

MAGINNIS MAGEE – Slow to begin.

SINE TIMORE – Slow to begin. Leaving the 900m commenced to overrace and continued to do so for some distance and had to be steadied from heels on a number of occasions.

CARRY THE DRINKS – Overraced in the early stages and as a result raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

DENMARK HILL – Commenced to hang out leaving the 600m and as result ROUBAIX was able to improve to its inside.

MOMENT OF IMPACT – S. Galloway was fined $100.00 for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

KODO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

ROUBAIX – When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance stable representative S. Andrew noted that hoof pads had been added to the gelding’s gear today. Mr Andrew also noted that the gelding had previously performed well on rain affected conditions and in his opinion the step up in distance today together with the addition of hoof pads had contributed to the improved performance.
