MR GOOD LOOKING - Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages preventing its rider from riding the gelding right out to the end of the race.

Race 4: City of Gold Coast Cup Class 4 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Blatant 2nd – Not to Know 3rd – Valerie D’Amour 4th – Panno Rossa

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey C Whiteley the rider of BLATANT which finished 2nd against NOT TO KNOW (S Galloway) being declared the winner on the grounds of interference over the final 100m. On the evidence it was established that approaching the 100m NOT TO KNOW shifted out abruptly resulting in BLATANT being taken outwards approximately 3 horses. Given the official margin of ½ neck and the way in which both horses were finishing the race off, stewards were of the belief that had BLATANT been afforded unimpeded running it would have beaten NOT TO KNOW and as a consequence upheld the protest and amended the placings to read:-

1st – BLATANT
2nd – NOT TO KNOW
3rd – VALERIE D’AMOUR
4th – PANNO ROSSA
5TH – CANNY BE FAMOUS

NOT TO KNOW - Commenced to over-race leaving the 1400m and was allowed to stride forward to take up a position in the lead near the 900m. Commenced to hang out leaving the 500m and continued to do so in the home straight, shifting out a considerable distance. Trainer B Smith was advised that the gelding must compete in an official trial prior to starting again.

MEADOW DREAMER – Momentarily held up passing the 200m.

VALERIE D’AMOUR - Near the 150 steadied from the heels of NOT TO KNOW.

CANNY BE FAMOUS – Jockey D Griffin reported that it was not his intention to take up a forward position, however, from the wide barrier he was obliged to allow the gelding to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the fence. Jockey Galloway added that in his opinion the gelding failed to run out a strong 1800m today.

Race 5: BBC Digital Maiden Plate – 1400m
1st – Chicago 2nd – Akacheta Lee 3rd – O’Spacehello 4th – Island Empire

ISLAND EMPIRE – Examined by the veterinary surgeon after being fractious in the enclosure and was subsequently cleared to start. Approaching the 900m steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of RAH RAH BOY which shifted in when over-racing. Jockey J Matthews reported that the gelding hung out during the middle stages and as a consequence raced 3 wide.

RAH RAH BOY - Over-raced during the early stages.

MISHANI SCOUT - Jockey J Stanley reported that the gelding raced greenly throughout the race.

O’SPACEHELLO - Leaving the 400m improved onto the heels of the weakening PAY TODAY and was then held up to a point leaving the 300m.

CHICAGO - Inclined to lay in over the final 200m.

PRINCESS MAVI - When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey J Morris stated that he was not given any specific instructions but added his intention was to take up a position just off the speed with cover. However, when caught wide in the early stages, he elected to press forward to obtain the lead. Jockey Morris added that once he obtained the lead, the mare then commenced to over-race for some distance. Trainer B Currie confirmed that no specific instructions were issued. Mr Currie indicated that as this was only the gelding’s second start for the stable, he would review today’s performance before determining what the preferred tactics would be in future. Nonetheless, Mr Currie was advised to notify Stewards should he elect to vary the tactics adopted today.

PAY TODAY - A post-race veterinary examination of the mare which commenced to weaken from a point leaving the 600m failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination. Trainer P Nipperess was advised that the mare’s nominations would be restricted to country meetings until it improves form.

Jockey J Morris (PRINCESS MAVI) was reprimanded for using his whip above shoulder height over the concluding stages.

Race 6: Ramsden Lawyers Class 1 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Superfast Saki 2nd – Sevva Nights 3rd – Miss War Trace 4th – The Lynches

SUPERFAST SAKI - Over-raced in the early and middle stages. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

NATURAL SIGN - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

FAMOUS GROUSE - Raced wide throughout. Near the 200m bumped by SEVVA NIGHTS (Jockey A Spinks). Jockey Spinks was reprimanded.

FIBRO – Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey J Stanley reported that the gelding over-raced for the majority of the event.

THE LYNCHES - Approaching the 250m steadied from the heels of MISS WAR TRACE which shifted out marginally.

SEVVA NIGHTS – Difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200m and shifted out to secure clear running to the outside of NATURAL SIGN and bumped FAMOUS GROUSE.

MISS WAR TRACE – When questioned as to his riding in the home straight, Jockey T Treichel stated that he was obliged to press forward in the early stages to obtain the lead. Jockey Treichel added that after crossing SUPERFAST SAKI passing the 900m that gelding when over-racing behind him, galloped on MISS WAR TRACE on a number of occasions. Jockey Treichel added that due to the combination of having to work hard in the early stages and being galloped on, the mare shifted out marginally when placed under pressure leaving the 300m, which allowed SUPERFAST SAKI to improve to his inside. His explanation was noted. A post race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to its near hind leg consistent with being galloped on.

Race 7: Bond University BenchMark 75 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Last Sight 2nd – Primal Flight 3rd – Eliminator 4th – Cheval Du Feu

The start was delayed when STAY SCHTUM kicked out with its hind legs in the barriers. The gelding was removed from the barriers and following a veterinary examination was declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 4.14pm. All monies invested on STAY SCHTUM were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 4.14pm:

6 cents in the dollar for the Win #5 – LAST SIGHT
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #5 – LAST SIGHT
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4 – PRIMAL FLIGHT

Trainer D Roberts was advised that a veterinary certificated of fitness and further barrier certificate would be required prior to the gelding racing again.

GET ON - Bumped on jumping away.

ELIMINATOR – Near the 1100m steadied to avoid the heels of PRIMAL FLIGHT which shifted in. Jockey S Galloway (PRIMAL FLIGHT) was reprimanded for shifting in when insufficiently clear.

Race 8: Smoke Alarm Solutions Class 3 Plate – 1400m
1st – Crooked Stick 2nd – Do Not Go Gentle 3rd – Best Dance Yet 4th – Hawaiian Princess

HAWAIIAN PRINCESS - Slow to begin.

SEGACIOUS FLAME - Jockey A Spinks reported that the mare over-raced in the early and middle stages which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on its ability to finish the race off.

DO NOT GO GENTLE – Jockey S Galloway reported that he was specifically instructed to lead and to shift off the fence rounding the home turn where the Trainer was of the view that the going was better.

SHE’S A DANICA – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have shifted a near fore plate in running.
