From Gold Coast Meeting 14/10/2015

Trainer T. Edmonds was fined $200.00 for failing to supply an up to date treatment book under the provisions of AR178F(3).

GENERAL:

Acting on a report from members of the Racing Queensland IRU, stewards opened an inquiry into the possible race day treatment of AVALANCHES and EVE’S JET. After taking initial evidence from trainer T. Bailey and IRU officers J. Hackett and S. Fletcher, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that either horse had been treated today and therefore permitted them to race. Urine and blood samples were taken from both horses at which point the inquiry was adjourned to a time and date to be fixed.

Race 1: Member Of The Year Phillip Morrison QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Burn Notice 2nd – Captain’s Angel 3rd – We’re Blessed 4th – Rainy Day Woman

RED ONYX – During the course of a stable inspection by Racing Queensland IRU officers this morning an examination of trainer David Kelly’s treatment records revealed that the gelding may have received treatment containing a prohibited substance yesterday. Stewards questioned Mr Kelly regarding the evidence in his treatment records, which Mr Kelly stated was a recording error and that the gelding had in fact not received the stated treatment. However, on the evidence stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the gelding had not received the treatment and as such declared the gelding a late scratching at 11.20 a.m. under AR8(m). A swab sample was taken for analysis.

EVE’S JET – Late scratching at 11.47 a.m. by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice after the filly was found to be lame in the near hind leg upon arriving on course. Trainer T. Bailey was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again.

RAINY DAY WOMAN – Began awkwardly and hung out badly approaching and rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer L. Ross was advised that the filly must trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to starting again.

CAPTAIN’S ANGEL – Leaving the 500m was taken wider by RAINY DAY WOMAN, which hung out and as a consequence near the 400m had to be steadied from the heels of that runner. Raced greenly in the home straight and shifted in leaving the 100m, resulting in App B Stower having to stop riding and straighten the filly.

WE’RE BLESSED – Steadied from the heels of BURN NOTICE near the 500m and shifted out.

ONE MORE TISHA – Passing the 500m had to be steadied from the heels of RAINY DAY WOMAN. Raced greenly throughout.

Race 2: Treasurers Award John Edgar Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Says Me 2nd – Steal A Diamond 3rd – Miss Oberon 4th – Little Miss Rocker

MAGIC MOUSE – As M. McGuren was ill stewards permitted G. Colless to be substituted as the rider. Began awkwardly. A short distance later was tightened for room between CABIN GOSSIP and STEAL A DIAMOND and subsequently lost ground. Steadied from the heels of KEBEDE for some distance leaving the 600m.

STEAL A DIAMOND – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner.

KEBEDE – Began awkwardly and bumped CHELSEA STAR. When questioned as to his riding over the final 100m and the overall performance jockey J. Lloyd stated that his instructions were to obtain a forward position today. Jockey Lloyd added that after beginning only fairly the filly was unable to muster the necessary speed in the early stages, despite his efforts, to obtain a forward position and as such he elected to take a trailing position behind LITTLE MISS ROCKER. Jockey Lloyd further added he placed the filly under pressure leaving the 500m however, it failed to respond as expected and in his opinion proved disappointing. Jockey Lloyd noted that near the 200m he elected to shift back to the inside of APPLAUSE A STAR but a short distance later was obliged to steady from the heels of that runner when it shifted in marginally. Jockey Lloyd was then of the view that the filly had peaked on its run and as such failed to ride it with his usual vigour over the final 100m. Whilst noting the circumstances stewards advised jockey Lloyd that he should make every attempt to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.

CHELSEA STAR – Bumped on jumping away.

MISS OBERON – Began awkwardly. A short distance later had to be steadied when tightened for room between CHELSEA STAR and LITTLE MISS ROCKER, which shifted in when not fully clear. App L. Dittman (LITTLE MISS ROCKER) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. App B. Appo reported that he was specifically instructed to obtain a position on the speed today and after suffering interference shortly after the start he attempted to improve his position however, the mare raced ungenerously and hung in during the early stages. This resulted in him being caught 3 wide in a midfield position before obtaining cover behind APPLAUSE A STAR near the 700m.

CABIN GOSSIP – Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

TEO’S BELLE – Inconvenienced shortly after the start when awkwardly placed at the heels of CABIN GOSSIP. Raced wide for the majority.

The start was delayed when MILK ‘N’ BRANDY sprung a near hind plate and required farrier attention. The gelding was examined prior to the start and cleared to take its place in the race.

OBSESSIONS – Presented to race in blinkers and pacifiers when only pacifiers were advertised today. Acting on the undertaking that the gelding had raced in blinkers and pacifiers at its last start stewards permitted the gear to be worn today. Stewards will undertake further enquiries before determining whether a penalty should be imposed on trainer C. O’Reilly for presenting the gelding to race in incorrect gear.

I AM BRUSE – Got its off hind leg up as the start was effected and lost ground.

MILK ‘N’ BRANDY – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority and commenced to hang out leaving the 600m before being eased out of the event. Stable representative Mr O’Leary was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.

SHIPWRECKED – Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

HOPE ISLAND – Bumped on jumping away. Disappointed for a run upon straightening and was obliged to shift out to obtain clear running.

CONTINENTAL SILK – Raced wide in the early stages.

YABA DABL DOYA – Held up in the early stages of the home straight when obliged to steady from the heels of HOPE ISLAND and then shifted out and made heavy contact with ISPAHAN and as a result became unbalanced.

GUNDY MAGIC – Jockey J. Byrne reported that the gelding was inclined to lay in in the home straight and would appreciate a step up in distance at its next start.

I AM WILL – Jockey G. Colless reported that after obtaining the lead in the early stages the gelding failed to travel comfortably for the majority of the race and in his opinion was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations inside the mouth and a slower than normal recovery rate.
