SUPPLEMENTARY

From GCTC Wednesday 14/10/15

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the possible race day treatment of AVALANCHES and EVE’S JET. An analysis of the blood and urine samples taken from both runners failed to reveal any prohibited substances and as such no action was taken against Trainer T Bailey.

Race 1: MYGC QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Brilliant Diva 2nd – Heart Skipt A Beat 3rd – Kitty 4th – With A Promise

WITH A PROMISE – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped HEART SKIPT A BEAT.

HEART SKIPT A BEAT – Bumped on jumping away. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

WE’RE BLESSED - Hung out rounding the home turn. Trainer S Iverson was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s racing manners. Mr Iverson advised Stewards that the filly would now be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 2: 1029 Hot Tomato Class 3 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Coastal Gem 2nd – Mr Lebrock 3rd – Panno Rossa 4th – Phantom Caller

NAVELINA – App. T Brooker reported that the mare over-raced for the majority of the event despite her efforts which in her opinion had a detrimental effect on its finishing performance.

PHANTOM CALLER - When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, Jockey T Treichel stated that his instructions were to take up a forward position should the mare begin well. Jockey Treichel noted that the mare had shown a tendency to begin well in its previous starts but was then slow to muster speed resulting in it settling towards the rear of the field. Jockey Treichel added that he was able to ride forward to assume the lead after which the mare was inclined to over-race for the majority of the event. Stewards reminded Trainer P Balzen of his obligations to advise them of any intended change in tactics.

Race 3: Telstra Robina Maiden Plate – 2200m
1st – Blazing Inferno 2nd – Holy Harry 3rd – Dessert Gambler 4th – Onemore Twist

Trainer S Saal-Winter was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey N Day on SMILING MISTRESS.

LORD CHAMBERLAIN - Trainer advised that it was the intention to have the gelding ridden mid-field today. After being slow to begin, settled at the rear of the field.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey D Griffin the rider of HOLY HARRY which finished 2nd against BLAZING INFERNO (G Goold) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference rounding the home turn and upon straightening. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the patrol footage Stewards could not be satisfied that HOLY HARRY was able to obtain a run to the outside of BLAZING INFERNO and instead was held up on the heels of that runner. Therefore Stewards were not satisfied that HOLY HARRY had suffered any interference directly attributable to BLAZING INFERNO and subsequently dismissed the protest.

SMILING MISTRESS – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m improved onto the heels of GANGSTA, steadied.

DESERT GAMBLER – Slow to begin.

DUKE OF KINGSFORD – Slow to begin. Over-raced during the early stages and as a result was ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1200m.

GALLOPING AHEAD – Raced wide during the early stages.

ONEMORE TWIST – Leaving the 600m held up on the heels of the weakening DUKE OF KINGSFORD.

HOLY HARRY – Rounding the home turn attempted a run to the outside of BLAZING INFERNO and in doing so bumped COMANDO BATTAGLIA on a number of occasions and was then obliged to shift back to the inside of BLAZING INFERNO on straightening.

COMANDO BATTAGLIA – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

BLAZING INFERNO – Shifted out abruptly of its own accord upon straightening.

GANGSTA – Leaving the 1400m improved onto the heels of HOLY HARRY and shifted wider. Then travelled 3 wide without cover for the remainder of event.

App. R Payne (DESERT GAMBLER) was reprimanded for using her whip in a forehand manner on more than the permitted number of occasions prior to the 100m.

Race 4: Nucon Concrete Class 4 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Court Martial Miss 2nd – Brigadoon Legend 3rd – Italian Storm 4th – Dragon Hunter

KYLIE’S ROCKING – Slow to begin.

BRIGADOON LEGEND – Slow to begin. Stewards questioned App. N Masuda as to why he didn’t continue to push forward passing the 900m in order to cross ITALIAN STORM to obtain the lead. App. Masuda stated that after beginning awkwardly, he was obliged to ride the gelding to take up its customary forward position and he was concerned about how much pressure he had to apply to the horse in the early stages and as such was content to settle outside ITALIAN STORM. App. Masuda was also mindful that the gelding had over-raced when ridden hard in the early stages at its last start. Stewards advised App. Masuda that in this instance he should have continued forward so as to obtain the lead outright.

DRAGON HUNTER – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.

Race 5: Paradise Resort Gold Coast Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Gods ‘N’ Warriors 2nd – Biagiotti 3rd – Hope Island 4th – Final Feliz

GODS ‘N’ WARRIORS – A routine veterinary examination of the gelding which had not started in over 18 months cleared it to start.

The start was delayed when BIAGIOTTI proved difficulty to load.

HOPE ISLAND - Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin. Shortly thereafter lost ground when tightened for room between DUBLEO’S LAD and RITZY’S COMMAND which shifted out. Held up approaching the home turn. Upon straightening shifted out to improve and bumped EVER THE OPTIMUS.

RITZY’S COMMAND – Began awkwardly, shifted out and in doing so made heavy contact with DUBLEO’S LAD and was then bumped heavily by DIVA REALIA which was taken out by PIEETYS. As a consequence became unbalanced and lost significant ground.

PIEETYS - Began Awkwardly. Leaving the 200m Jockey Goold’s whip became entangled in the reins preventing him from riding the mare with his usual vigour for a short distance.

DUBLEO’S LAD – Bumped heavily shortly after the start. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

DIVA REALIA - Shortly after the start, taken out by PIEETYS and made heavy contact with RITZY’S COMMAND. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Upon straightening, bumped and taken wider on the track. App. S Eilbeck reported that the mare raced greenly rounding the home turn and wanted to lay out.

MSHINDI – Raced wide throughout. Upon straightening, inconvenienced when awkwardly placed at the heels of EVER THE OPTIMUS. MSHINDI then shifted out and bumped DIVA REALIA.

EVER THE OPTIMUS – Upon straightening bumped by HOPE ISLAND (A Spinks). Jockey Spinks was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

FINAL FELIZ – Jockey M Hellyer reported that the filly raced greenly in the home straight.

Race 6: Flan & Emily Jade Class 2 H’cap – 1200m
1st – Olja 2nd – Gumdale Boy 3rd – Munster 4th – Motion Granted

LOCHLEE - Slow to begin.

NO DOUBT A DIAMOND – Near the 350m steadied when tightened for room between LOCHLEE and MUNSTER which shifted out.

TRUE PRINCE – When questioned as to the disappointing performance, App. S Eilbeck stated that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages. She added that leaving the 500m she shifted out to improve into the race at which point the gelding failed to respond to her riding and proved very disappointing. App. Eilbeck was at a loss to explain the disappointing performance after it had impressed her at its last start where it finished second when resuming from a spell. Trainer B Dais will be interviewed at a later date. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 7: Mal & Luke BenchMark 75 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Dousaichi 2nd – Bernie of Babylon 3rd – Elitist 4th – Retune

BLACK NINJA - Began awkwardly.

EPIC CHOICE - Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 900m.

ELITIST - Momentarily held up rounding the home turn and then approaching the 200m was disappointed for a run between DOUSAICHI and LITTLE LONG HORN which shifted out marginally.

MICKEN – When questioned as to the tactics adopted and overall performance, App. P Schmidt stated that her instructions were to obtain a position with cover. App. Schmidt added that from the wide barrier and the early speed she was obliged to settle further back than anticipated. App. Schmidt noted that the gelding was dropping back in distance from its last start. App. Schmidt further added that from that position she elected to ride the gelding for luck instead of shifting extremely wide rounding the home turn. However, she was held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight and then elected to shift in to obtain clear running but again was held up over the final 200m and as a result went to the line without being fully tested. Stewards noted the explanation.
