GENERAL:

From Beaudesert 31 October 2015:
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the reason for PITBULL stumbling and dislodging App. R Jamieson at a point near the 600m in Race 4 Trade Alliance Maiden Plate. After taking initial evidence from Trainer K Fleming, the inquiry was adjourned as App. Jamieson was transported to hospital for treatment to injuries suffered when dislodged. On the day of the incident Stewards also inspected the racing surface in the vicinity where the incident took place, and on review stood down PITBULL to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start. A subsequent veterinary examination of PITBULL failed to reveal any abnormalities. Today, further evidence was taken from App. Jamieson and Trainer K Fleming, and after viewing the race DVD, Stewards found that at a point near the 600m PITBULL, when leading the event, blundered and dipped of its own accord dislodging App. Jamieson which resulted in a number of runners following being checked to various degrees. In arriving at this decision Stewards were of the opinion no one rider was to blame, nor did the racing surface have a part to play in the incident. Stewards also noted that PITBULL subsequently trialled satisfactory on 12/11/2015 at GCTC, and as such is now clear to race.

Due to the track downgrade at 11:00am Stewards acceded to requests for the following runners to be withdrawn:

Race 3 – Hagia Sophia @ 11:00am
Race 6 – True Prince @ 12:00 noon
Race 7 – Moment of Impact @ 11:00am
Race 8 – Vivid Imagination @ 11:00am

Race 1: Barrier Reef Pools Qld QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1100m
1st – Prince of the Turf 2nd – Emvepee 3rd – Harley Hog 4th – Senorita Rosita

PRINCE OF THE TURF – Prior to the race, Stewards questioned Trainer J Morrisey as to why a tongue tie was not added to the gelding’s advertised gear following its last start when the stable confirmed a tongue tie would be added as a result of the gelding getting its tongue over the bit on that occasion. Mr Morrisey stated that after reviewing the race it was not his belief that the gelding got its tongue over the bit. Mr Morrisey added that the gelding had worked well since that race without a tongue tie and as a result was of the view that it did not require a tongue tie, given that it was stepping back in distance to 1100m today and his instructions would be to lead. Bumped on jumping away. Jockey T Treichel reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out for the majority of the race.

CUTTING JET – Began awkwardly.

SENORITA ROSITA - Bumped on jumping away.

FINAL FELIZ – Began awkwardly. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

POETIC SHOW – Shortly after the start bumped by CUTTING JET and then steadied and lost ground when tightened for room between CUTTING JET and EMVEPEE.

FLAMBE – Began awkwardly and bumped DIAMOND ON COMMAND. Leaving the 600m steadied from heels and then held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

DIAMOND ON COMMAND – Bumped on jumping away. Raced wide throughout. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

SANJAY – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

EMVEPEE – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey M McGuren stated that he had been given no specific instructions except to position the colt where comfortable in the run. Jockey McGuren added that in the early stages he had considered taking up a mid-field position outside SENORITA ROSITA but was unable to hold that position due to the early speed in the race and as a result was obliged to settle further back than he anticipated. Jockey McGuren added that the colt had taken up a similar position in previous trials and in his opinion performed best when ridden with cover and allowed to run on.

Race 2: Cool Pools of Melbourne F&M Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Chief’s Fav 2nd – Little Miss Rocker 3rd – Shiba Sakura 4th – Watched

The start of this race was delayed as a result of the Jockeys Association conducting a meeting at which jockeys and trainers discussed various industry proposals.

WATCHED - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

PARLIAMENT HOUSE - Hung out rounding the home turn and bumped DIVA REALIA.

DIVA REALIA – Bumped rounding the home turn.

LITTLE MISS ROCKER – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to improve into a run between DIVA REALIA and WATCHED leaving the 300m, Jockey S Galloway stated that he did consider shifting to the inside of WATCHED to obtain that run, however, he was concerned that such a shift would have resulted in interference to DIVA REALIA which was weakening. Jockey Galloway stated that as a consequence he elected to shift to the outside of WATCHED passing the 200m to secure clear running. Jockey Galloway also reported that his intention was to lead today, however, when PARLIAMENT HOUSE pressed forward to lead he elected to obtain cover behind that runner. Jockey Galloway also noted that the gelding which was carrying 59kgs today failed to quicken as expected when able to obtain clear running.

Race 3: Gibson Family Pools C,G&E Maiden H’cap – 1400m
1st – Yaba Dabl Doya 2nd – Academy Hill 3rd – Storm Anchor 4th – Sammy Sparrow

HOPE ISLAND - Began awkwardly and bumped TOO ROUGH. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

DECIBEL DAN - Shortly after the start bumped by HOPE ISLAND.

SAMMY SPARROW - Raced wide throughout.

STORM ANCHOR - App. K Stanley reported that the gelding was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn which allowed ACADEMY HILL to improve to her inside.

TOO ROUGH - When caught wide early, obliged to press forward and settle outside the leader.

Race 4: Blue Marlin Pools Class 5 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Crooked Stick 2nd – Amajill 3rd – Little Long Horn 4th – Dousaichi

CROOKED STICK - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

MAJESTIC SOUND – When questioned as to the tactics adopted, Jockey A Spinks stated he was instructed not to restrain the gelding as it had shown a tendency to over-race when restrained in its previous races. Jockey Spinks stated that as a result he allowed the gelding to stride forward in the early stages to obtain the lead and that passing the 600m it was inclined to hang out and continued to do so until after straightening which allowed LITTLE LONG HORN to improve to his inside. His explanation was noted.

Race 5: Outdoor Indulgence Class 2 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Mr Lebrock 2nd – Snapper Rocks 3rd – Mine with Lime 4th – QABLA

MR LEBROCK – Presented to race without the advertised bubble cheeker on the off side. Acting on the stable’s undertaking that the gelding had not raced with the bubble cheeker at its previous 2 starts, the gelding was allowed to race without this piece of gear. Stewards will undertake further enquiries at a later date.

STAR FORMATION – Slow to begin.

SNAPPER ROCKS - Caught wide during the early stages and had to stride forward to settle outside the leader near the 1300m.

QABLA - Inconvenienced upon straightening and awkwardly placed at the heels of SHANTICO.

Race 6: Shipman Construction Class 2 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Lady Belladonna 2nd – Gunsmoke 3rd – Favoured Grace 4th – Jolie Madeleine

GUNSMOKE – Trainer advised that it was the intention to have the gelding ridden mid-field with cover today compared to its last start where it led. Ridden accordingly.

EKOFANIDEA - Approaching 1100m steadied when tightened for room by GUMDALE BOY which was taken in by JOLIE MADELEINE (App. K Stanley) which in turn was taken in by LADY BELLADONNA (Jockey D Griffin). App. K Stanley and Jockey D Griffin were both advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. In this incident EKOFANIDEA sustained a laceration to its near fore fetlock.

LADY BELLADONNA – Jockey D Griffin reported that it was not his intention to lead today, however, after beginning well from the wide barrier, he was concerned that he was going to be caught wide so allowed the mare to stride forward to obtain the lead.

FAVOURED GRACE – Passing the 200m shifted in after being brushed by GUNSMOKE and in doing so then bumped JOLIE MADELEINE and became unbalanced for a short distance.

JOLIE MADELEINE – Bumped leaving the 200m.

Race 7: Barrier Reef Pools Class 3 H’cap – 1200m
1st – It’s a Thrilla 2nd – Pay Zone Princess 3rd – St Cajetan 4th – Heartbreak Harry

Trainer B Hull was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey A Allen as the rider of KOLONGA.

SCARLET JANE - Slow to begin. Inconvenienced leaving the 300m by ITALIAN STORM which was taken out by SAINT HUGO. Jockey V Johnson (SAINT HUGO) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

ITALIAN STORM - Near the 1100m steadied when tightened for room between IT’S A THRILLA and PAY ZONE PRINCESS both of which shifted ground. Raced wide throughout. When questioned as to the performance, Jockey S Galloway stated that the mare travelled comfortably in a 3 wide position with cover during the early and middle stages, however, was disappointed in its failure to finish the race off as expected. Jockey Galloway was of the view that the mare is better suited over shorter distances than that of today. Trainer T Edmonds agreed with the comments of Jockey Galloway and indicated he may give the mare a short freshen-up prior to its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the near hind leg.

HEARTBREAK HARRY – Leaving the 700m lost ground when placed in restricted room to the inside of SAINT HUGO which was taken in by ITALIAN STORM which in turn was taken in by OLJA (App. R Payne). App. Payne was reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear.

OLJA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

ST CAJETAN – Held up during the early stages of the home straight.
