Race 1: Apex-Building Better Communities Mares Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Sagatona 2nd – Miss Heidelicious 3rd – Twilight Princess 4th – Grey Opinion

As App. M Murphy failed to arrive on course due to transportation difficulties, Stewards permitted Jockey D Griffin to replace him on GREY OPINION as no other apprentice was available.

Race 2: Jeff Hannaford Accountants QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Zero Tolerance 2nd – All That Is 3rd – Wall Street Lass 4th – Meghapushpa

Trainer J Meagher was fined the sum of $100 for the late declaration of Jockey L Rolls on SARGOOD LANE.

After being kicked by another runner behind the barriers, URUBAMBA underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by App. C Schmidt the rider of ALL THAT IS which finished 2nd against ZERO TOLERANCE (M McGuren) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference during the early stages of the home straight. On the evidence it was established that near the 250m ZERO TOLERANCE shifted out marginally before shifting back in a short distance later. Stewards were not satisfied that ALL THAT IS was able to improve to the inside of ZERO TOLERANCE within that short period of time and was then disappointed for that run. After leaving the 200m ALL THAT IS was able to then improve to the inside of ZERO TOLERANCE when that runner shifted back out. Bearing in mind the way both horses finished off the race, Stewards did not believe the incident had any material effect on the placings and the protest was dismissed.

MISHANI FORBIDDEN - Slow to begin.

D’LEEAJET - Slow to begin. Near the 250m improved onto the heels of TRUE SAGA and steadied before shifting in to secure clear running.

LADY ON THE ROCKS - Slow to begin. A short distance later steadied when tightened for room and then failed to take any competitive part in the event despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be sore in the near fore leg. Trainer L Garrett indicated that the filly would now be retired. Nonetheless, a veterinary clearance will be required should it race again.

URUBAMBA - Near the 900m checked to avoid the heels of MEGHAPUSHPA. Near the 800m checked when tightened for room between MEGHAPUSHPA which shifted out marginally and AKSANA (A Spinks) which shifted in. Jockey A Spinks was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

MEGHAPUSHPA – Near the 900m checked severely when bumped and tightened for room by ALL THAT IS (App. C Schmidt) which had a tendency to lay in and away from another runner. At a subsequent inquiry Stewards could not be satisfied that the actions of App. Schmidt were careless in all the circumstances and as such took no further action.

AKSANA - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Passing the 200m steadied from heels.

PUELLA - Raced wide throughout.

ALL THAT IS - Approaching the 200m disappointed for a run to the inside of ZERO INTOLERANCE.

SARGOOD LANE - Passing the 200m steadied when tightened for room between TRUE SAGA (M Palmer) and MEGHAPUSHPA (S Galloway) both of which shifted ground. Both Jockey S Galloway and Jockey M Palmer were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

WALL STREET LASS - Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.

Race 3: NOPROFITNOPAY.COM C,G&E Maiden Plate – 1200m
1st – Stella Ombra 2nd – Bold Approach 3rd – Saipan 4th – Snapper

Trainer M Dunn was fined the sum of $200 for the late declaration of Jockey C Franklin on LEAP OF LEGEND.

COOMERA - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

LEAP OF LEGEND - When questioned as to the performance, Jockey C Franklin stated that after beginning slowly the horse was then slow to muster speed despite his efforts. Jockey Franklin added that when asked to improve passing the 600m the horse responded only fairly and was disappointing in its overall performance today. Jockey Franklin noted that he had ridden the horse in track work and based on its work both he and connections were hopeful of a better performance. Jockey Franklin was of the view that the horse may benefit from the gelding operation. Stable representative C Dunn advised that following today’s disappointing performance the stable would consider either the addition of blinkers or a gelding operation prior to its next start.

SNAPPER - Hampered upon jumping away. Inconvenienced leaving the 1000m.

STELLA OMBRA - Blundered on jumping away.

ROCKY EXPECTATIONS - Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of event.

BOLD APPROACH - Cast its off hind plate in running.

Race 4: Hairy Hannaford Class 4 H’cap – 1800m
1st – Rabasco 2nd – Torbay 3rd – Once Again 4th – Ekofanidea

ONCE AGAIN - Began awkwardly and lost ground. Upon returning to scale Jockey M McGuren reported that he was concerned with the gelding’s action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer H Page was advised that she must obtain a veterinary certificate of fitness before its next race start.

STRATEGIC SHADOW - Over-raced during the early and middle stages.

STUBOY - Steadied when tightened for room rounding the first turn near the 1400m. Passing the 500m steadied when awkwardly placed on heels.

MAGIC IN ACTION - Bumped by RABASCO near the 400m.

Race 5: MWM Advisory Charity Race BM75 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Ellawisdom 2nd – Talon Lady 3rd – Bernie of Babylon 4th – Royal Scribe

As Jockey L Rolls was to be overweight, he was replaced on TALON LADY by Jockey S Galloway. Jockey Rolls was fined the sum of $100.

ONE GREY – Approaching the 200m lost the use of near side iron for a short distance.

BUAKAW – When questioned as to the performance, App. M Murphy stated that the gelding travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages but when asked to improve leaving the 600m was left flat-footed when the tempo of the race increased. App. Murphy added that the gelding was doing its best work over the concluding stages and may appreciate a step up in distance. Trainer M Lakey was of the view that the slow tempo in the early and middle stages did not suit the gelding’s racing style and accordingly he was not overly disappointed with the performance.

App. B Ainsworth (ONE GREY) was fined $400 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of App. Ainsworth’s poor record.

Race 6: The MWM Advisory AOOB Cup F&M Class 1 H’cap – 1100m
1st – I Like Candy 2nd – Conniving 3rd – Supersay 4th – In Nepal

KYOTO ROSE – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer D Kelly advised that the filly would now be sent for an immediate spell. Nonetheless, he was advised that the filly would be required to trial officially prior to starting again.

DESTINED FOR WAR – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a slower than normal recovery rate. Trainer T Bailey undertook to have a endoscopic examination performed, the results of which he would report back to Stewards.

Race 7: All in One Services C,G&E Class 1 H’cap – 1100m
1st – Hit Him Again 2nd – Four Excel 3rd – Lake Argyle 4th – My Firecracker

BRAZEN JAKE - Leaving the 900m steadied when tightened for room.

REVELIO - Near 800m, after FOUR EXCEL crossed forward of him to the lead, elected to shift out and commenced to improve to the outside of FOUR EXCEL. A short distance later severely checked, losing substantial ground, as a result of being tightened for room between FOUR EXCEL and MANKINI LOVE which shifted in.

PUDMARDELS – Leaving the 800m steadied from the heels of REVELIO. Raced wide from that point onwards. Upon straightening steadied from the heels of MANKINI LOVE which shifted in and way from the heels of FOUR EXCEL.

FOUR EXCEL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a laceration to the inside right hock consistent with being galloped on.

Jockey L Rolls (MY FIRECRACKER) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MATHIESON LANE and then DANORO LAD resulting in the respective riders having to take hold of their mounts. Jockey Rolls was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days to commence midnight 27/02/2016 and to expire midnight 08/03/2016.

Jockey G Goold (MANKINI LOVE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that once REVELIO had improved to a position outside of FOUR EXCEL near the 800m he then permitted his mount to shift back in resulting in REVELIO being checked and losing considerable ground. Jockey Goold was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days to commence midnight 28/02/2016 and to expire midnight 10/03/2016. In assessing penalty Stewards were mindful of the significant interference suffered by REVELIO but also Jockey Goold’s good record under this rule.
