SUPPLEMENTARY:

From Gold Coast Turf Club 20/2/2016 – Race 6

Trainer T. Bailey reported that DESTINED FOR WAR had pulled up fine following its disappointing performance. Mr Bailey added that an endoscopic examination had failed to reveal any abnormalities. Mr Bailey stated that the only tangible explanation he was able to offer for the poor performance was that the horse may have resented being restrained once it had obtained the lead, as it had performed poorly when ridden in a similar manner previously. Mr Bailey indicated that he would instruct the rider at the horse’s next start to allow it to travel along in the lead without being restrained and should the horse again perform poorly he would review its current racing preparation.

GENERAL:

As jockey M. McGuren was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: Langs Building Supplies QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 900m
1st – Social Conquest 2nd – Orquesta 3rd – Dave’s Valor 4th – Ready Seq Go

GENERAL ASSAULT – Slow to begin. Had a tendency to race greenly throughout and hung out rounding the home turn.

DAVE’S VALOR – Began awkwardly and a short distance later was bumped by ORQUESTA. Initially inclined to hang out rounding the home turn before then laying in during the early stages of the home straight.

DON’T PLAY AROUND – Hung out rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly had sustained a speedy cut to the off hind leg.

ORQUESTA – Raced greenly in the home straight. Raced wide without cover throughout.

OH BOY – Raced wide throughout.

DAWN FIGHTER – Jockey G. Colless reported that the filly was slow to muster speed in the early stages despite his efforts and in his opinion would appreciate racing over further distances.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 2: Architectural Window Systems Fillies & Mares Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Waterfront 2nd – Sakitto 3rd – Stage Dancer 4th – Casino Dreamz

SAVAROSE – Slow to begin. Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

WEE DRAGON – Overraced in the early stages and then hung out for the remainder of the event. Stable representative B. Hall advised that the mare had previously hung out and that the stable had altered the gear in an effort to improve its racing manners. Nonetheless Mr Hall was advised that the mare must compete in an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

STAGE DANCER – Hung in under pressure in the home straight.

SAKITTO – Near the 250m was disappointed for a run between ARAZI ROSSA and STAGE DANCER, which shifted in.

CITRUS WISH – Jockey T. Harrison reported that the filly hung out rounding the home turn.

CASINO DREAMZ – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey R. Fradd stated that at its previous start the filly had failed to finish off the race after leading and as such he was instructed to try to obtain cover today. Jockey Fradd noted that the filly blundered on jumping away, which resulted in it racing further back in the field than anticipated. Jockey Fradd also noted that the filly was obliged to race wide from the 600m when CITRUS WISH, which was racing forward of him failed to improve into the race. Trainer A. Willick confirmed the instructions and added that her intention was to have the filly settle in a handy position and after viewing the film agreed that it was obliged to settle further back in the field after blundering at the start. Ms Willick noted that the filly had sustained a laceration to the off fore coronet and advised that it was her intention to step the filly up in distance at which point similar instructions would be issued.

Race 3: Hyne Timber – T2 Blue Framing Colts, Geldings & Entires Maiden H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Thermal Unit 2nd+ – Dashley Dubh 3rd – Dazzle Us Again 4th – Sparkling L’Amour

FASTQUEST – Slow to begin. When questioned as to the performance jockey T. Harrison noted that the gelding was inclined to overrace at its last start and as such pacifiers were added to its racing gear today. Jockey Harrison stated that with the addition of pacifiers the gelding travelled more comfortably but in her opinion may be better suited to races over further distances. Trainer B. Lockwood agreed with the comments of jockey Harrison.

SPARKLING L’AMOUR – Slow to begin.

DASHLEY DUBH – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages jockey J. Taylor stated his instructions were to obtain a position with cover just off the speed as the gelding had failed to finish off the race 3 starts ago at Ballina when positioned outside the leader. Jockey Taylor added that the gelding was forced to race further back in the field at its most recent start at Ipswich after he lost the use of his offside iron during the early stages. Jockey Taylor further added that after beginning well today he restrained the gelding so as to comply with his instructions however, after passing the 1100m he was obliged to press forward to prevent DAZZLE US AGAIN from maintaining a one off position, after which the gelding was inclined to overrace for some distance.

THERMAL UNIT – Began awkwardly.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed whilst jockey J. Byrne the rider of 4th placegetter NOTONYOURLIFE viewed the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an protest against the 2nd placegetter CASTANITA (App S. Eilbeck). After viewing the film jockey Byrne advised he did not wish to proceed. Furthermore, stewards were of the view that despite being hampered by CASTANITA leaving the 100m the incident did not warrant a protest given the margin of ¾ of a length.

Fradd having to take hold of his mount and losing ground. App Eilbeck then continued to shift in resulting in NOTONYOURLIFE being inconvenienced. App Eilbeck was suspended from riding in races for a period of nine (9) days to commence midnight 2 March 2016 and to expire midnight 11 March 2016.
