Veterinarian – G Silvestri
Swab attendants – V Burgess, A Fleming
Bookmaker Supervisor – G Daly

GENERAL
As Jockey J Morris was to be overweight, Stewards permitted rider replacements as follows:-

Race 4 – BIG DOLLARS – Jockey S Galloway;
Race 7 – RAGE WITHIN – App. B Ainsworth (no other senior rider available).

Jockey Morris was subsequently fined the sum of $200.

Prior to the running of Race 5, B Smith the Trainer of RIDEONABIGJETPLANE, lodged a complaint to Stewards as to the pre-race sampling of that gelding. Mr Smith was concerned that a sample was to be taken unduly close to the advertised start time. Stewards advised Mr Smith that the sample collection officials had approached him to obtain the sample, in their opinion, within a reasonable time and as such directed him that a sample was to be taken. Following that race Mr Smith and Steward Trevor Bartlett both lodged complaints as to each other’s conduct. After obtaining evidence from both parties, Stewards could not be satisfied that either individual had misconducted themselves given the relevant circumstances and as such, took no further action.

TWILIGHT PRINCESS - Leaving the 900m became awkward when racing to the inside of AKSANA and in doing so lost ground. For some distance thereafter was inclined to hang out.

AKSANA – Approaching the 400m steadied when tightened fro room between STRIVE TO SUCCEED and LIFE’S A PICNIC (Jockey N Day) which shifted out. Jockey Day was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in future.

STRIVE TO SUCCEED – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey D Griffin stated that he was obliged to ride the gelding along from the 1000m onwards to maintain his position towards the back of the field. Jockey Griffin added that whilst he was able to improve into the race passing the 600m, the gelding failed to finish the race off as expected and was somewhat disappointing today.

Jockey S Galloway (HONG KONG EMPIRE) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In determining penalty Stewards were mindful of Jockey Galloway’s good record.

COOMERA – Leaving the 500m became unbalanced after being bumped by SNAPPER on a number of occasions. Jockey A Spinks reported that the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions.

REAL EGO – When questioned as to the tactics in leading today, Jockey M McGuren stated that he was instructed to obtain a forward position with cover if possible. Jockey McGuren added that after beginning well from the awkward barrier, he attempted to comply with those instructions, however, due to the slow speed in the early stages he elected to press forward to the lead.

Race 5: Experience OZ Class 3 H’cap – 1400m
1st –Basic Strategy 2nd – Rideonabigjetplane 3rd – Road to the Bay 4th – Ring King

KING WILLEM – When questioned as to the tactics adopted and overall performance, Jockey D Griffin stated his intention was to take up a forward position, however, due to the early speed he was only able to obtain a mid-field position. Jockey Griffin added that passing the 1400m the gelding commenced to over-race when the tempo of the race slackened which resulted in him shifting out and racing wide from that point onwards and then continued to over-race for some distance thereafter. Jockey Griffin further added that leaving the 600m he attempted to improve into the race on the back of CRIMSON FORCE, however, near the 500m had to be steadied when tightened for room between HIGH ADVERSITY and ROCK SPARK. Bearing in mind the circumstances, Jockey Griffin was not overly disappointed with the gelding’s performance today.
