Race 1: Barry Flanigan Remembrance QTIS 2YO H’Cap – 1400m

ALCHEMY GOLD - R. McMahon was fined $100.00 when unable to fulfil his engagement due to being overweight. The replacement rider M. Helllyer was permitted to ride the horse 1 kilo overweight as no other rider was available at the allotted weight.

SPORTSTAR SAMUEL – Slow to begin.

I’M SO EPIC – Bumped by GOOD LUCK MALELA on 2 occasions passing the 200m.

DIAMONDS ‘N’ ROSES – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
P. Romeo (BALBOA ROCKS) was fined $200.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

SON OF JUSTICE – App C. Jokic reported that the gelding hung out during the middle stages and continued to do so for the majority of the straight proving difficult to ride. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be shin sore. Trainer K. Sempf advised that the gelding would be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 2: Mind And Me Foundation Class 3 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Va Va Veni 2nd – Tambo’s Heart 3rd – Rideonabigjetplane 4th – Snapper Rocks

Stewards questioned trainer B. Smith as to the nomination, acceptance and subsequent scratching of SUIT. Mr Smith stated that the connections had been disappointed in its performance at Ipswich on Wednesday 30 March 2016 and had instructed him to accept for today’s race on a short back up. Mr Smith added that following its acceptance on Thursday morning the gelding had failed to please him in its recovery on the basis of which he advised connections to scratch for today’s race. Stewards noted that SUIT had been nominated prior to the nominations’ deadline and bearing in mind all the circumstances accepted Mr Smith’s explanation.

SNAPPER ROCKS – When questioned as to the tactics adopted jockey L. Rolls noted that the gelding was slow to begin. Jockey Rolls added that notwithstanding the slow tempo in the early stages he was reluctant to improve forward as he was concerned that the leaders would have quickened resulting in him being then forced to race 3 wide outside of VA VA VENI. Jockey Rolls also noted that the gelding is better suited over further distances.

Race 3: Cooper Reeves QTIS 3YO Class 3 Plate – 900m
1st – Tycoon Ace 2nd – Go Better 3rd – Lord Tscharke 4th – High Cost

HIGH COST – As S. Drake was injured stewards permitted R. McMahon to be substituted as the rider.

LORD TSCHARKE – Slow to begin.

REDSSON – Had to be eased near the 700m when placed in restricted room between IT’S A STICK UP and HONEY KO, both of which shifted ground. Raced wide throughout.

GO BETTER – Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

HONEY KO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

R. McMahon (HIGH COST) was fined $100.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 4: Elsie Morgan Remembrance Class 2 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Camouflage 2nd – Triple Jeopardy 3rd – Winning Accord 4th – Motion Granted

The announcement of correct weight was delayed whilst stewards reviewed the patrol footage to ascertain if there were grounds to lodge a protest on behalf of the 3rd placegetter WINNING ACCORD against the 2nd placegetter TRIPLE JEOPARDY. Whilst noting that TRIPLE JEOPARDY shifted out marginally under pressure in the home straight stewards were satisfied that INNING ACCORD, which was improving to the outside of TRIPLE JEOPARDY, did not suffer any interference which had a material affect on the placings. Stewards subsequently declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

MORAL MINEFIELD – Began awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore leg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare racing again.

TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Slow to begin. Near the 1100m inconvenienced when awkwardly placed at the heels of MORAL MINEFIELD. Raced wide for the majority.

BRIEBELLA – Leaving the 400m had to be steadied when tightened for room between WINNING ACCORD and CAMOUFLAGE, which shifted out. Jockey D. Griffin (CAMOUFLAGE) was reprimanded for this incident.

LAIKA GORDO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

S. Galloway (TRIPLE JEOPARDY) was fined $100.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

L. Rolls (WINNING ACCORD) was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 5: The Owen Powell Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Gee Sting 2nd – Vintage Beauty 3rd – Heza Demon 4th – Youwonit

The start was delayed when KICK ‘N’ TEL was unable to be loaded and was subsequently declared a late scratching by order of stewards at 2.43 p.m. Whilst attempting to be loaded a barrier attendant was kicked by KICK ‘N’ TEL who then required the attention of a QAS official. All monies invested on KICK ‘N’ TEL were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and place-getters prior to 2.43 p.m.:

15 cents in the dollar for the win - # 11(GEE STING)
18 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #11 (GEE STING)
10 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - #9 (VINTAGE BEAUTY)
19 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - # 2 (HEZA DEMON)

Trainer E. Forrester was advised that KICK ‘N’ TEL will be required to obtain 2 consecutive barrier certificates one of which must be obtained in an official trial prior to racing again.

The start was further delayed when VINTAGE BEAUTY was fractious in the barriers. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon VINTAGE BEAUTY was cleared to start. Trainer T. Edmonds will be advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.

ZATORIO – Hung out rounding the first turn near the 900m and as a consequence raced 3 wide without cover for the remainder.

HEZA DEMON – Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

YOUWONIT – Shifted in near the 50m and had to be steadied.
Race 6: Tox Free – The John Mowry Memoral Class 1 H’Cap – 1800m
1st – Knight Errant 2nd – Casino Century 3rd – Grobbelaar 4th – More Than A Rose

GROBBELAAR – Slow to begin.

MORE THAN A ROSE – Slow to begin. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

PARANA – Slow to begin.

STEERING – Raced wide in the early stages. Near the 1500m steadied when tightened for room by WICKED TRILOGY. App M. Murphy (WICKED TRILOGY) was reprimanded for this incident.

ROYAL MELD – Overraced rounding the first turn near the 1400m.

CAPITANEAR – Jockey J. Morris reported that the colt peaked on its run over the final 200m and in his opinion was disappointing.

Race 7: Vistacliff Construction And Development Class 5 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Sambuca Shot 2nd – More Than Money 3rd – Savannah Dream 4th – Gherardini

BABUR – L. Rolls was fined $100.00 when unable to fulfil his engagement due to being overweight. The replacement rider App M. Cox was permitted to ride the horse as no other rider was available at the allotted weight. Began awkwardly. Near the 900m clipped the heels of PURE WHISPER, blundered and lost ground. At a subsequent inquiry stewards could not be satisfied that jockey McMahon (PURE WHISPER) was careless in his actions. A post race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the near fore suspensory.

PURE WHISPER – Began awkwardly and as a consequence lost the use of his near side iron for a short distance. Leaving the 900m improved onto the heels of PANDORA CHARM and had to be steadied.

UMASAGA – Hampered on jumping away.

GHERARDINI – Hampered on jumping away.

MILITARY MANOR – Hampered on jumping away.

PANDORA CHARM – Slow to begin and shortly thereafter was bumped and lost ground. Overraced in the middle stages.

MORE THAN MONEY – Jockey D. Griffin dropped his whip approaching the winning post.

Race 8: Dale St. George CEO Sleepout Class 1 H’Cap – 1400m
1st – Gods ‘N’ Warriors 2nd – Monsieur Gustave 3rd – Elmotino 4th – Chophouse Tears

MONSIEUR GUSTAVE - As P. Romeo was unable to fulfil his acceptance due to another engagement in Toowoomba stewards permitted L. Londregan to be substituted as the rider. Stewards accepted jockey Romeo’s explanation.

AUSSIE GEM – Began awkwardly. App M. Cox was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

ZARFASTAR – Overraced in the early and middle stages. When questioned as to the disappointing performance trainer N. McCall noted that the gelding refused to settle for the majority of the event and in her opinion its racing manners prevented it from running out a strong 1400m.

SPUR ME UP – Leaving the 1100m had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room between runners. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

WALWA – Leaving the 1100m improved onto the heels of SPUR ME UP and had to be steadied. Hung out approaching and rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be short striding in front with some pain on flexion in the off fore knee. Trainer J. Morrisey will be advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again.

CHOPHOUSE TEARS – Rounding the home turn had to be eased when placed in restricted room between runners for a short distance.

S. Galloway the rider of I’VE GOT FRIENDS pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that leaving the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CHOPHOUSE TEARS, which resulted in that runner being taken in onto the running of SPUR ME UP. As a consequence SPUR ME UP had to be checked and lost ground. S. Galloway was suspended from riding in races for a period of eight (8) days to commence midnight 2 April 2016 and to expire midnight 10 April 2016.
