Race 1: Bosform QTIS 2YO Class 1 Plate – 900m
1st – Greyt Start 2nd – Hidden Light 3rd – Gracefully Chic 4th – Stole The Show

STOLE THE SHOW – Began very awkwardly, shifted in, bumped RANEN and lost significant ground.

RANEN – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout and hung out rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

ROWDY RONDA – Bumped at the start.

CAESAR’S SECRET – Began awkwardly. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout and passing the 600m was taken wider on the track by ALASSAK. Johnston-Bell (RANEN) was severely reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting out.

GRACEFULLY CHIC – Began awkwardly.

AURUM LAD – Had to be steadied on jumping away when tightened for room between ROWDY RONDA and GRACEFULLY CHIC, which shifted in. Approaching the 300m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of ROWDY RONDA.

GREYT START – Approaching the 600m when being restrained to obtain a position behind KAWANA VIVA, hung out forcing ALASSAK wider on the track. Raced greenly throughout.

ALASSAK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout and passing the 600m was taken wider on the track by another runner.

S. Bogenhuber (GREYT START) was fined $200.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Race 2: Wideform Maiden H’Cap – 1300m

PRINCE CONSUL – Began awkwardly.

RED ONYX – Bumped at the start.

OTHER WAY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

COOMERA – Raced wide throughout. When questioned as to the improved performance trainer J. Morrisey stated that the gelding had overraced at its previous start and failed to run out a strong 1800m as a consequence. Mr Morrisey added that he had freshened the gelding up leading into today’s performance and it was suited by the drop back in distance to 1400m. Mr Morrisey further added that he had not been overly disappointed in the gelding’s performance 2 starts prior to today and 3 starts prior it was not suited by the soft track conditions. His explanation was noted.

I AM THE SCULPTOR – When questioned as to the tactics adopted in the early stages, specifically if there was an opportunity to press forward and settle outside RAINBOW MAGIC, in a one off position, jockey J. Morris stated that the gelding had won when ridden quietly from inside barriers at its last 2 starts. Jockey Morris added that after beginning on terms today he considered pushing forward to settle outside RAINBOW MAGIC however, was concerned with the genuine speed in the early stages and he therefore elected to restrain in an attempt to obtain cover behind SENGLEA SUN. When SENGLEA SUN was overracing to the outside of PRIZE he was unable to obtain to restrain the gelding in order to obtain cover and was forced to race 3 wide without cover for the majority of the event. Jockey Morris further added that had he elected to press forward early he would have been forced to race 3 wide in any event as RAINBOW MAGIC maintained a position one off the fence throughout. After viewing the patrol footage stewards accepted the explanation.

Race 5: HVAC Class 2 H’Cap – 1100m
1st – Don’t Deny Us 2nd – Goornong Girl 3rd – Tressles 4th – She’s Worthy

GRESELIN – Lowered its head prior to the start and as a consequence lost ground. When questioned as to the performance jockey A. Spinks stated that the filly was under pressure leaving the 700m and had to be hard ridden in an effort to improve its position. Jockey Spinks added that the filly failed to finish the race off as expected and in his opinion was somewhat disappointing. Jockey Spinks was of the opinion that the filly is better suited to races over further distances than that of today’s event. A post race veterinary examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

SHE’S WORTHY – Upon return to scale App T. Brooker reported her intention was to settle further forward however, the filly failed to muster the necessary speed in the early stages despite her efforts. App Brooker added that leaving the 500m the filly commenced to improve into the race well before being held up for clear running between the 150m and 50m.

Jockey A. Spinks (GRESELIN) was fined $300.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful of jockey Spinks’ poor record.

1st – Minkus 2nd – Lucky Show Girl 3rd – Bobby Be Good 4th – Fast Fella

FAST FELLA – Blundered on jumping away.

CARRY THE DRINKS – Began awkwardly and shifted in. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey L. Cheshire stated she was specifically instructed to lead then improve passing the 600m in an effort to obtain an advantage on the rest of the field. Jockey Cheshire added that she was able to comply with these instructions however, conceded that the tactics adopted had a detrimental affect on the gelding’s performance. Nonetheless, Stewards advised Jockey Cheshire that she had erred in her riding of the gelding, in that after obtaining the lead she should have continued to restrain the gelding in the middles stages so as to give it every opportunity to finish the race off instead of allowing it to stride forward from the 700m.

RUFFO – Had to be checked and lost ground when tightened for room shortly after the start.

Jockey Griffin added that when caught wide in the early stages he elected to restrain the gelding in an effort to obtain cover but was still forced to race 3 wide at the rear of the field. Jockey Griffin further added that the gelding never really travelled comfortably in the middle stages and he was disappointed with its finishing effort. Jockey Griffin was of the opinion that the gelding is better suited when ridden positively from an inside barrier.

SUGAR HIT – When asked to comment on the performance of the filly App M. Murphy stated he was instructed to lead today. App Murphy added that in the early stages when CARRY THE DRINKS pressed forward to lead he elected to sit off that runner. App Murphy was of the view that the strong tempo in the early and middle stages had a detrimental effect on the filly’s performance.

K. Stanley (BOBBY BE GOOD) was fined $200.00 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Jockey M. McGuren (LUCKY SHOW GIRL) will be interviewed regarding his whip use prior to the 100m at a later date.
