MALKARA – After arriving late on course the gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.  When questioned regarding the disappointing performance jockey D. Griffin explained that it was his intention to settle closer to the speed today however, after being crossed by runners to his outside he was shuffled further back in the field than anticipated.  Jockey Griffin added that the gelding was somewhat disappointing in the home straight.  Jockey Griffin noted that MALKARA raced without a bit lifter, which may have had an affect on its performance.  Stewards also questioned trainer M. Costa regarding the gelding’s late arrival on course and also the horse racing without a bit lifter.Mr Costa was subsequently fined $200.00 for the gelding’s late arrival on course and $100.00 for presenting the gelding to race without a bit lifter, which is part of its gear. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings. A swab sample was taken.

NELUMBO – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

AGREE TO – Shifted in abruptly at the start making contact with CREATIONIST.  Overraced in the early stages.  When questioned regarding the performance jockey R. Bishop stated that the gelding, after having a favourable run throughout, failed to quicken as expected.  Jockey Bishop added that the gelding may not have appreciated the soft track conditions today.  A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.

FOGOSO – Approaching the 400m had to be steadied when held up for clear running.

CREATIONIST – Raced wide throughout.

AHMAH STAR – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey J. Taylor explained his instructions were to be positive on the gelding and also to be mindful that the gelding is one paced.  Jockey Taylor added that after settling at the rear of the field in the early stages he elected to stride forward when the pace slackened near the 1100m.  Jockey Taylor further added it was not necessarily his intention to lead however, he was mindful that the gelding is one paced.

Jockey R. Bishop (AGREE TO) was fined $400.00 for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.  Stewards in determining penalty were satisfied that jockey Bishop’s actions had cost the horse 4th place.

1st: Same Old   2nd: Netzach   3rd: Miabla   4th:  War Chest

JUMP ON BOARD – Trainer H. Page advised the horse would be ridden aggressive out of the gates and go forward if circumstances permit.  Jockey J. Morris reported at scale that his mount began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition, which resulted in his saddle shifting to the side placing him at a disadvantage and as a result raced towards the rear of the field.  Jockey Morris noted that as a result of his saddle shifting he was reluctant to place the gelding under pressure in the home straight.

QUEEN GEE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  Raced wide throughout.

LEGAL ATTIRE – Slow to begin.

NICE TO DREAM – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.  When questioned regarding the tactics adopted jockey J. Taylor stated that from the wide barrier it was always his intention to take up a forward position.  He added that at the filly’s last start it raced over a 1000m and today stepping up to the 1400m the filly showed good gate speed and as such he found a forward position easily and as runners had improved to his inside it was evident he was going to be caught racing 3 wide and therefore elected to press forward and assume the lead.  Jockey Taylor further added that the filly’s best performances have been when able to take up a position closer to the speed.  He further added that in his opinion the filly may not run out a strong 1400m.

MIABLA – Hampered at the start.  Improved onto the heels of STAGE EXPRESS had to be checked and lost ground.

NETZACH – Near the 800m when attempting to obtain a position behind TRUE STEPPER, shifted in making contact with WAR CHEST on a couple of occasions as jockey Poland (WAR CHEST) was attempting to hold her line, also shifted out and bumped NETZACH causing that runner to become unbalanced and forced wider on the track.  Stewards advised both jockey Poland (WAR CHEST) and App Guthmann-Chester (NETZACH) to be mindful of their actions and to exercise more care in similar circumstances.  Raced wide throughout.

Near the 1400m had to be eased from heels.  When offered an opportunity to comment on the performance App J. Woodhouse stated that the gelding was slow to begin and then trailed the field throughout.  App Woodhouse added that at the 600m he placed the gelding under pressure in an attempt to improve into the race however, the gelding was reluctant to improve despite his urgings.  App Woodhouse further added that the gelding had a tendency to hang out rounding the home turn and raced ungenerously throughout. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer B. Currie indicated that in light of today’s performance he was of the view that the gelding may not have handled today’s track conditions and may have come to the end of its current campaign and therefore will be sent for a spell.

Plumb (BARRAAJ) was advised to exercise more care.  ONEMOREGYPSLY Had to be steadied again shortly after when the pace of the race steadied.   Stewards reprimanded jockey Plumb (BARRAAJ) for the manner in which he slackened the tempo at that point.
