CLOVERLEIGH LASS – Cast an off hind plate in running.

Jockey P. Timbery the rider of CLOVERLEIGH LASS pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that upon jumping he permitted his mount to shift in substantially when insufficiently clear of runners joined to his inside, resulting in RAKITNO being checked and losing ground, SHEZA LILY having to be steadied and losing ground and AGREE TO and VIDARR being severely hampered.  Jockey Timbery’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of twelve (12) days to commence midnight 15 April 2017 and expire midnight 27 April 2017.

SHARPE HUSSLER – When questioned as to his riding rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight jockey J. Morris stated that after beginning only fairly from an inside barrier he was obliged to take up a midfield position on the fence.  Jockey Morris stated that the gelding has previously performed best when able to secure clear running to the outside of the field in the home straight and for this reason he elected to shift some 4 horses wider upon straightening in an effort to secure clear running to the outside of MORE THAN MONEY.  However, in doing so he made contact with KINCAPLE CHIEF and was obliged to shift back to the inside of MORE THAN MONEY to secure clear running approaching the 200m.  Trainer C. Munce confirmed the gelding does perform best when afforded clear running to the outside of the field.  Bearing in mind the gelding only finished the race off fairly when afforded clear running over the final 200m stewards did not believe that jockey Morris’ actions were culpable under the Rules of Racing however, they did advise him that he had erred in his decision when failing to take advantage of a run between STEVE’S SURPRISE and MORE THAN MONEY, which was available to him upon straightening.
