RACE 1: QT Hotel Gold Coast QTIS 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
WEEKEND SAGA – Slow to begin and failed to muster speed despite the efforts of its rider.  When questioned regarding the performance jockey J. Mallyon stated that the filly was somewhat fractious in the barriers and as a result was slow to begin.  Jockey Mallyon further stated that his pre-race intentions were to obtain a forward position however, despite his urgings the filly failed to muster any speed and raced at the rear of the field.  Jockey Mallyon added that in his opinion the filly may have resented racing in this position and further added that the filly found the line fairly and would take benefit from today’s event.
 
FUSSPOT – Slow to begin.
 
ABSOLUTLYPOSITIVLY – Bumped at the start.  Near the 1000m was inconvenienced after being crossed by GOLDEN BOUQUET which steadied the pace and as a consequence then commenced to overrace for a short distance thereafter.
 
MISS SIDUAL – Bumped at the start.
 
BOSCOBELLA – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Cast an off hind plate during running.
 
JABROOK – When questioned regarding the performance App M. McGillivray stated that his intentions were to obtain the lead if possible however, once runners to his outside had crossed him he was content to settle just off the speed behind the leaders.  App McGillivray added that the filly was under pressure from the 600m and then commenced to weaken upon entering the home straight and for this reason he did not overly pressure his mount for the remainder.  App McGillivray further added that in his opinion the filly was most disappointing.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
 
RACE 2: Switch Electrical QTIS 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate – 1200m

Stable representative was advised that failing any further submissions trainer C. Munce will be fined $100 for the late declaration of App C. Bayliss as the rider for VALDEANIE.
 
GO DAISY – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.
 
KISSAYKISS – Severely hampered and had to be checked at the start.
 
PLAY THING – Bumped heavily at the start and became unbalanced.  Near the 1100m had to be checked after improving onto the heels of DEEP LEAD.  When questioned regarding the performance jockey D. Griffin stated that after receiving interference at the start he was unable to take up a forward position as anticipated.  Jockey Griffin added that he attempted to comply with his instructions and improved forward however, the filly failed to show the necessary speed and instead of being caught wide he elected to obtain a position with cover towards the rear of the field.  Jockey Griffin further added that the filly only ran on fairly over the concluding stages and in his opinion would appreciate a step up in distance.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings.
 
DEEP LEAD – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped PLAY THING.
 
GOLDEN PASS – Near the 800m had to be steadied from the heels of GO DAISY, which shifted in and away from VALDEANIE, which shifted in.  App C. Bayliss (VALDEANIE) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
 
RACE 3: Event Cinemas QTIS 2YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
ROTHSTOCK’N’BELLA – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
MIGHTY HEART – Approaching the 600m commenced to overrace and had to be steadied away from the heels of TROMMELSCHLAGEN.  Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
HACKSAW RIDGE – Inconvenienced near the 300m behind the weakening KEGSY.
 
AMERICAN MUSCLE – Raced greenly rounding the home turn and continued to do so in the home straight.
 
 
RACE 4: Cordner Super Advisory QTIS 2YO Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate – 1200m
 
TAPTHETILL – Shifted out at the start and bumped DYNASTIC and lost ground.
 
SIR BARNABUS – Began awkwardly.  Had to be steadied from the heels of LEND ME A TENNER near the 500m when racing greenly and continued to race greenly for the remainder.
 
REAL SUPREMACY – Jockey M. Hellyer reported at scale that his mount hung out throughout the home straight.
 
 
RACE 5: Broadbeach Holiday Apartments Maiden Plate – 1200m  
 
As S. Doyle was overweight stewards permitted C. Whitelely to be substituted as the rider of SIGNORIA.  Jockey Doyle was subsequently fined $100. 
 
WHERE POPPIES GROW – Began awkwardly making contact with SIDERE and lost ground.
 
SIDERE – Bumped at the start.  Obliged to alter course to obtain clear running shortly after entering the home straight.
 
EXCEED ALL ODDS – Approaching the 850m commenced to overrace, then received a bump from KIRIN’S LAD and had to be checked from the heels of SIGNORIA.  A short distance later again had to be checked from the heels of SIGNORIA, which shifted in when not sufficiently clear. 
 
Jockey C. Whiteley the rider of SIGNORIA pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that near the 800m he made insufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in, resulting in EXCEED ALL ODDS having to be checked. Jockey Whiteley’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight (8) days to commence midnight 10 June 2017 and expire midnight 18 June 2017. 
 
LIPS ‘N’ HIPS – Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.
 
OUR GRACIOUS DANE – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.
 
 
RACE 6: Youfoodz Fillies  & Mares Class 2 H’Cap – 1400m
 
TRUST MISTY – Blundered at the start.
 
MA RAISON – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.
 
JILLIES JET – Raced wide throughout.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare had bled from both nostrils during the event.  As this was the first occasion the mare had bled trainer S. Lee was advised it will now incur the mandatory 3 month ban from racing and must gallop 1000m before racing again.
 
SOCIAL VAMPIRE – Jockey D. Griffin reported at scale that his mount slipped at the start and as a result raced further back than anticipated.
 
RAINBOW LACE – App G. Mitchell reported to stewards that her mount, whilst overracing, was also inclined to hang out for the majority of the event when racing in the lead.
 
RACE 7: Cordner Advisory Class 4 H’Cap – 1800m
 
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer D. Kelly for the late declaration of V. Johnston as the rider of THERMAL UNIT.
 
BINARY – Trainer K. Schweida advised instructions would be to have the horse settle in a more forward position if circumstances permit.  The horse settled midfield.
 
PUSH THE SKY AWAY – Caught racing wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to find a position outside the leader near the1000m.
 
SUBSOLAR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1600m commenced to race ungenerously and shifted out abruptly whilst continuing to overrace for some distance thereafter. Approaching the 700m had to be steadied from the heels of MANDRYKA when overracing.  Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.
 
SHOW A FLICK – Tightened for room shortly after the start.
 
Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 1600m which resulted in App A. Spinks being dislodged.  After taking evidence from jockey M.Hellyer (PRIVATE HERO), App M. McGillivray (SUBSOLAR) and App A. Spinks (SHOW A FLICK) stewards established that near the 1600m SUBSOLAR commenced to overrace fiercely and shifted out abruptly, resulting in SHOW A FLICK clipping the heels of SUBSOLAR and blundering badly and then a short distance later App A. Spinks was dislodged.  As stewards were of the view that this was not due to any carelessness of any one rider they took the matter no further other than to report the incident.  App Spinks was subsequently examined by the ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement.
 
RACE 8: Wash It Class 1 H’Cap – 1100m
 
CAPO DI TUTTI – Slow to begin.
 
SWISS ART – Overraced for a short distance passing the 1000m.
 
TYCOON ROSSA – Leaving the 400m had to be momentarily steadied and was obliged to shift out around the heels of TONY’S PRINCESS.
 
RIVER FIRE – Near the 150m had to be steadied when tightened for room to the inside of REMEMBERING FRANK, which shifted in.  App A. Spinks was issued with a reprimand for this incident.
 
DISTORTION – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
TONY’S PRINCESS – Raced wide throughout.
 
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to a Soft 5.
 
RACE 9:  Happy 100th Norman Watson Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 2 H’Cap – 1400m
 
GYPSY WILD – Laid in under pressure for the majority of the home straight.
SMART DEVIL - When questioned regarding the performance App J. Guthmann-Chester stated that the gelding was not entirely comfortable in today’s track conditions and added that he was forced to race in restricted room for the entire home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
COSGROVE – When afforded the opportunity to comment regarding the performance jockey M. McGuren explained that the colt began only fairly and he therefore elected to race towards the rear of the field to obtain cover.  Jockey McGuren added that when the pace of the race steadied from the 1000m to the 600m the colt commenced to overrace and in his opinion was not comfortable in today’s track conditions.  Jockey McGuren further added that the colt failed to sprint when placed under pressure and found the line fairly and also added it may be better suited over further distances.
 
 
RACE 10: Cordner Virtual CFO Services QTIS 3YO H’Cap – 1400m
 
After arriving on course without a medical, jockey Morris stated that he had obtained a medical certificate however failed to furnish it today and undertook to provide the certificate at tomorrow’s Gatton meeting. Jockey Morris was subsequently cleared by the Club’s Doctor to fulfil his engagement. 
 
RED SCARLET was declared a late scratching at 3.25 p.m. due to the downgrade of the track.
 
REAL MYSTIQUE – Began awkwardly and shifted in making contact with THE SHEEPISH LION and lost ground.  Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
TEMPETE ROUGE – Began awkwardly.  Commenced to overrace near the 1100m and threw its head in the air on a couple of occasions.  Near the 1000m had to be checked from the heels of RED PRINCE. 
 
WITCHES WIT – Tightened for room at the start.  Raced wide throughout.
 
PARK CHINOIS – Tightened for room at the start.
 
LE MATTAN – Attempted to improve near the 500m and shifted out forcing WITCHES WIT wider.
 
THE SHEEPISH LION – Approaching the 400m had to be steadied away from the heels of PARK CHINOIS, which shifted in.
 
RED PRINCE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
TEXT BOOK – Jockey B. Pengelly reported at scale his mount was not comfortable on the track conditions and blundered on a couple of occasions near the 600m.
 
Jockey J. Morris (DENBERN) was fined $200 for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m.  In assessing penalty stewards took into account the total whip use in the straight.
