GENERAL
 
Due to Queensland Government Covid restrictions which limited jockey access to spas and saunas, Stewards permitted the following jockeys to ride +1/2kg on their respective mounts:
 
Race 1 – R Wiggins – DERULO - 56kgs
Race 3 –R Maloney – RAMBEAU – 56kgs
Race 7 – J Guthmann-Chester – 55kgs
 
Race 1: AQUIS QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
KAVAK – Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping away.
 
DERULO – Blundered on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer J Smerdon gave an undertaking to report to Stewards any condition which may come to light in the coming days. Mr Smerdon was reminded of his obligations under AR165(3) for runners to remain on-course at least 30 minutes following a race.
 
ACROBATIC – Bumped at the start. Shortly after entering the home straight became awkwardly placed at the heels of GOOD CHAT which shifted out.
 
BOOMNOVA – Began awkwardly then crowded onto the hindquarters of KAVAK and became unbalanced and lost ground. Raced three wide with cover.
 
MISHANI FRAUDSTER – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
MICROWAVE JENNY – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping CIVITAS. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.
 
REAL FINE WINE – Restrained at the start from an outside barrier. Near 600 metres steadied when KINGSTON’S HERE rolled in.
 
KINGSTON'S HERE – Change of tactics, from wide draw to be ridden worse than midfield with cover. Ridden accordingly. Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
MAGIC IN ME – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
Over-raced in the early stages.
 
CRIMINAL DEFENCE – Slow to begin.
 
CIVITAS – Bumped at the start. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 2: AQUIS GOLD PEARL 1100 metres
 
Following the running of Race 1 the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.
 
Jockey J Huxtable, rider of RHAPSODY ROSE, was kicked in the mounting enclosure and treated by QAS staff before being transported to hospital for further treatment. Stewards permitted B Thompson to ride RHAPSODY ROSE. J Huxtable will require a medical clearance before his next race ride.
 
As a result of QAS staff attending to J Huxtable, all races were put back one time slot with race 9 to commence at 5:55pm.
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 4 minutes awaiting a replacement QAS vehicle.
 
MISS HIPSTAR – Raced three wide without cover. Momentarily inconvenienced when RHAPSODY ROSE shifted out after being awkwardly placed at the heels of SWIFT WITNESS which shifted out and away from ILLICCIATE AFFAIRS. Lost near hind plate in running.
 
RHAPSODY ROSE – As J Huxtable was kicked in the enclosure prior to mounting, Stewards permitted B Thompson to ride the filly. Fractious in the enclosure. As a result of its poor pre-race manners, trainer C Munce was advised RHAPSODY ROSE must trial before its next race start. Examined by veterinary surgeon behind the barriers prior to being loaded and cleared to start. Jumped out at the start.
 
MISHANI ENCHANTED – On arrival behind the barriers, the saddle on the filly was readjusted. Slow to begin. Lost off hind plate in running.
 
ALICE THROUGH – Disappointed for clear running passing the 200 metres when MISS IN CHARGE shifted out and RHAPSODY ROSE shifted in slightly.
 
MISS IN CHARGE – Raced greenly in the early stages.
 
SWIFT WITNESS – Jumped awkwardly outwards at the start.
 
WATACHOICE – Made a prominent respiratory noise during the race and displayed signs of post-race distress. Trainer H Page was advised the filly would require a veterinary certificate, including results of an endoscopic test, prior to its next race start.
 
 
Race 3: AQUIS GOLD NUGGET 1100 metres
 
 
HEADLANDER – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
RAMBEAU – Worked to the barriers strongly. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
GENERAL WOLFFE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
OUR HOT FRIEND – Slow to begin.
 
SHAQUIRO – Lost near hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS COUNTRY CUP (SPECIAL CONDITIONS) 1200 metres
 
ANIMATE – Rider N Rawiller was reprimanded under AR132(5) for use of the whip on sixteen occasions (16) in totality, two more than permitted.
 
RAMTASTIC – Change of tactics, to be ridden closer, but with cover. After being slow to begin, settled in second half of the field.
 
FOREVER NEWYORK – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
 
MISHANI BULLITT – Near the 250 metres held up after improving onto the heels of DANCING DOLLAR before shifting in and making contact with MR KYLIN.
 
KATY'S DAUGHTER – When steadied to obtain cover laid in, became awkwardly placed at the heels of ANIMATE and shifted in abruptly.
 
I AM THE GENERAL – Lost ground when racing tightly to the inside of DREAMTIME MAGIC when that runner was carried in by KATY’S DAUGHTER. Had difficulty obtaining clear running over final 100 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg and a swollen off fore fetlock joint. Trainer T Banks was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
UNCONDITIONAL – Began awkwardly. Good its head up and had to be steadied when eased off the heels of I AM THE GENERAL
 
HARD CORE – Began awkwardly.
 
MR KYLIN – Lost near hind plate in running. Held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
 
DANCING DOLLAR – Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event.
 
HARD LADY – Lost near hind plate in running.
 
SAN PIERRE – Raced three wide no cover for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 5: PLAY GOLD COAST OPEN 900 metres
 
HAUNTED – Checked at the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the concluding stages of the home straight.
 
GYPSY TOFF – Began awkwardly resulting in rider M Cahill losing use of his nearside iron placing him at a severe disadvantage throughout the race.
 
I'VE GOTTA NEL – Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider S Cormack reported his saddle shifted forward placing him at some disadvantage throughout the race.
 
THE TENOR – Shifted in abruptly at the start. Laid in throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
 
Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO Fillies & Mares Class 4 Plate 1300 metres
 
STOLEN JADE – Near the 900 metres got its head up when being steadied off the heels of MISHANI BLOSSOM.
 
BEACHBREAK – Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event.
 
GIRLS ARE READY – Slow into stride. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight and again over the concluding stages.
 
MISHANI BLOSSOM – Steadied from the heels of STOLEN JADE near the 1100 metres.
 
LADY BANFF – Raced three wide with cover.
 
AVIEMORE – Restless in the barriers, then slow to begin.
 
BECANDLENI – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages and near the 700 metres had to be steadied from heels.
 
XUANNU – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
 
Race 7: MAGIC MILLIONS RISING STARS 3YO & 4YO Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1300 metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow M Cahill, rider of third placegetter MARSANNAY, and co-trainer A Bott to view the patrol footage over the concluding stages. After doing so they took the matter no further and correct weight was declared on the semaphored placings. 
 
VINCO – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.
 
DYNAMIC THINKER – Approaching the 200 metres was carried out by RUUCA and a short distance later eased from the heels of MARSANNAY which shifted in.
 
SHOOTING FOR GOLD – As J Huxtable was injured, Stewards permitted L Currie to ride the gelding.
 
RUUCA – Held up for clear running between the 400 metres and 200 metres.
 
DEGAS – Crowded at the start when YOA DASH jumped in at the start. Raced keenly near the 700 metres taking both VINCO and SHOOTING FOR GOLD wider on the track.
 
YAO DASH – Jumped in at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a small laceration to the off foreleg and an abrasion back of tendon, consistent with being galloped on.
 
THUNDER MANIA – Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event.
 
MINTED – Slow to begin. Approaching the 600 metres steadied from the heels of DEGAS
 
MARSANNAY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
 
RICH DEVIL – Bumped on several occasions shortly after the start by DEGAS which in turn was taken in by YAO DASH. Near the 1100 metres checked away from the heels of YAO DASH when that runner was taken in by DEEP SPEED which shifted in at an abrupt angle. A Mallyon, rider of DEEP SPEED, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) and his license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 16th January up to and including midnight 24th January 2021. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Held up rounding the home-turn.
 
 
Race 8: THE TAB WAVE 1800 metres
 
PANIAGUA – Raced three wide with cover in the early and middle stages and near the 700 metres shifted wider on the track when over-racing.
 
WAPITI – Held up for clear running approaching the home-turn.
 
STAR OF MICHELIN – Bumped heavily at the start. Raced three wide with cover for majority of the event.
 
INDIAN DREAMER – Slow to begin.
 
REBEL ROCK – Slow to begin.
 
KUKERACHA (NZ) – Held up for clear running approaching the home-turn.
 
PURE DEAL – Shifted out abruptly at the start and bumped heavily with STAR OF MICHELIN. Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event.
 
 
Race 9: AQUIS DUBIOUS BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1400 metres
 
SNITCH – As J Huxtable was injured, Stewards permitted B Thompson to ride the gelding. Change of tactics, to be ridden in a midfield position. Ridden accordingly. On arrival at the barriers underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
 
PROMETHEUS – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ZOFONIC DANCER – Declared a late scratching at 4:03pm on veterinary advice after sustaining an injury to the off hind leg. Trainer R Heathcote was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
 
ASHMAN – Approaching the 1000 metres got its head up and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of PARKO.
 
DOCTOR ZOUS – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
KEN'S DREAM – Lost off fore plate in running.
 
BOLD WARRIOR – Raced three wide without cover for majority of the event.
 
AKAGE – Over-raced in the middle stages of the event.
 
ROMAN AUREUS – Inconvenienced at the start when ASHMAN shifted out after being bumped by SPLENDORONTHE GRASS which shifted out abruptly on jumping. Lost off fore plate in running.
 
SPLENDORONTHEGRASS – Shifted out abruptly at the start.
 
FISTICUFFS – Laid in over the concluding stages of the event.
