Race 1: YIROS SHOP QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
KING HAMMURABI – Raced greenly throughout.
ITZ PARIS – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Raced three wide without cover throughout.
PICK ZA BEANS – Held up rounding the home turn.
TILIBET – Raced greenly throughout.
Race 2: CLUB PINE RIVERS Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
INJUSTICE – As the gelding hasn’t started for over twelve months it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Laid in under pressure over the final 250m.
LETMELETGO – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Jockey N Callow reported that the gelding never travelled throughout the event and in his opinion proved disappointing.
SERENADE THE CAT- Reared as the start was effected and lost ground.
SHEZANUISANCE – After being caught three wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 700m.
I AM SUPERIOR – Held up for clear running in the early part of the home straight.
RELENTLESS MISS – Had to be restrained from heels near the 700m. Held up slightly rounding the home turn before shifting wider on the track approaching the 200 to secure clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near fore leg.
Race 3: KURRAWA SURF CLUB Class 1 Handicap 1400 metres
ROMAN REPUBLIC – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance jockey M Hellyer stated that the gelding travelled well in the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure in the home straight the gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise and therefore he desisted from pressuring his mount over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was still making an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer D Vandyke was advised that the horse will need an endoscopic examination undertaken results of which including a veterinary clearance would need to be provided to stewards prior to the horse trialing or racing again. A post-race swab sample was taken.
TOLERATE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
STAR OF SUCCESS – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer J Hardy was advised that a warning be placed against the gelding for its barrier manners.
Race 4: MOO MOOS BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 900 metres
Correct weight was delayed to allow the trainer and rider of the 5th placed horse SISTER KITTY MAC to view the footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against the winner DESERT MAN. After doing so both trainer and rider declined to proceed.
WUDANG BLADE – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
DESERT MAN – Race three wide without cover throughout. Laid in passing the 300m, crowding SISTER KITTY MAC despite the efforts of its rider.
BEWARE – Passing the 300m bumped on the hind quarters.
SISTER KITTY MAC – Raced in restricted room between BEWARE to its inside and DESERT MAN to its outside between the 600m and 400m, then was again crowded for room passing the 300m and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of BEWARE and a considerable amount of ground.
Race 5: STANDARD MARKET COMPANY Class 1 Plate 900 metres
DEEP STATE – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.
HIDDEN SPRING – Passing the 200m when racing in restricted room put in an awkward stride.
B'DAISY – Shifted out shortly after the start.
BEFANA – Slow to begin and then failed to muster speed in the early stages. Approaching the 200m had to alter course back to the inside to secure clear running. When asked to comment on the performance jockey M McGillivray stated that the mare raced in her usual racing pattern towards the rear of the field however finished the race off well and in his opinion would be better suited in races further than that of today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
VOGUE ROCK – Slow into stride and then bumped by B’DAISY shortly afterwards.
BOMBAY ROCKET – Raced three wide without cover throughout .
DANITES – As jockey R Bishop was unable to make the allocated weight steward permitted M Bennett to ride the mare. Jockey R Bishop was reprimanded under AR190(3). Was restrained from a wide barrier towards the rear to find a position closer to the rail.
Race 6: MAGGIE CHOO Class 3 Plate 1800 metres
Start was delayed when MOTAMAYIZ was fractious in the barriers and reared. Subsequently was removed and underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
MOTAMAYIZ (GB) – Fractious in the barriers and reared prior to the start being effected.
ACHIEVE VICTORY – Approaching the 400m was disappointed for a run to the outside of MOOD and to the inside TOUCAN SAM and again had difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight and was inclined to lay in proving difficult to ride. Lost off fore plate in running.
TOUCAN SAM (NZ) – Passing the 1400m when in a trailing position commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain until passing the 900m. Rider K Wilson-Taylor pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip six times prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. Apprentice K Wilson-Taylor’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of eight days to commence midnight 2nd May 21 until midnight 10th May 21, which is to follow a recent suspension yesterday. In determining penalty stewards were mindful of his recent record including three breeches yesterday including a suspension.
MOOD (NZ) – Lost near hind plate in running.
SCRATCHES – Passing the 300m improved onto heels and was unable to secure clear running until approaching the 100m.
AEECEE SACRED – Stewards permitted jockey S Cormack to replace jockey J Guthmann-Chester for acceptable reasons.
Race 7: COMMERCIAL KITCHEN COMPANY Class 4 Handicap
1300 metres
The start was delayed when DARK EURO proved difficult to load.
EL PHOENIX – Commenced to weaken passing the 300m and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed gelding had bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer G Doughty was advised the gelding would be barred from racing for three months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of stewards prior to being permitted to trial or race again.
DARK EURO – Proved difficult to load. Trainer F Blanch was advised a warning was placed against gelding for its barrier manners.
TOO HOT TO HOLD – Passing the 700m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MR STORM which was crowed by DARK EURO which shifted in. Rider A Allen was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Rider T Brooker pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip seven times prior to the 100m, two more than permitted and was fined $400.
MISCHIEVOUS LAD – Slow to begin. Approaching the 600m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of THE DRILLER.
Race 8: HEINEKEN GOLD COAST CUP ON SALE BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1200 metres
Start delayed when PERFECT QUALITY was fractious in the barriers and reared. The gelding subsequently was removed from the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.
ROYAL PHOENIX – Shortly after the start laid in despite the effort of its rider.
VACATE – Raced three wide with cover throughout.
REPLICATION – Passing the 200m when being attempted to shift wider on the course hung in and proved difficult to ride and then when passing the 100m when being corrected by its rider shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with DISARMED and became unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a small laceration to the near hind leg.
DISARMED – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Approaching the 50m was bumped and forced wider on the track by REPLICATION which shifted out abruptly.
PERFECT QUALITY – Fractious in the barriers and reared prior to the start being effected.
EVELEIGH – Passing the 50m was inconvenienced by DISARMED which was forced out by REPLICATION.
JUBAI PRIDE – Crowed for room on jumping and lost some ground. Raced three wide with cover throughout.
SO YOU SHOP – Raced three wide without cover throughout.
SUGAR ZONE - Passing the 50m was inconvenienced by Disarmed which was forced out by replication.
