Race 1: PRECISION GROUP Maiden Handicap 1100 metres Due to an incident involving a stable hand whom required assistance from the ambulance officials after being injured in the pre-race parade all races were put back one timeslot with race 7 to be run at 5:22pm. TECOMA STREET– After refusing to load in the barriers TECOMA STREET was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 1:34pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on TECOMA STREET be refunded with the following deductions to apply- 1st 0c the win, 1c the place2nd 2c the place Trainer T Cotsiopoulos was advised that she would be required to obtain a barrier certificate for the gelding prior to next racing. During the attempted loading process jockey A Spinks sustained an injury to his right wrist and as such was stood down from his remaining engagements by the ambulance officials. Race 2: BLUELINE COMMERCIAL COUNTRY HEIST BENCHMARK 65Handicap 900 metres Following a heavy downpour of rain after race 1 the track was downgraded to a soft 6 SWAN ISLAND – Slow to begin. Race 3: NORTH AUSTRALIAN CONTRACTING Class 1 Plate 1800 metres Following the running of race 2 the track was downgraded to a soft 7 retrospective to include race 2. Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards considered an objection lodged by trainer M Wilson the trainer of the fourth placed DAY TO FAVOUR against EDIFICATION (Zac Lloyd) being declared third alleging interference in the early stages of the home straight. After taking evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the stewards patrol footage stewards found that near the 350m DAY TO FAVOUR shifted out marginally initiating contact with EDIFICATION resulting in that runner being bumped on the hind quarters and turned inwards causing that runner to lay in on DAY TO FAVOUR for a short distance. As stewards were satisfied that this incident was attributed to DAY TO FAVOUR shifting outwards the interference could therefore not be fully attributed to EDIFICATION. A short distance later whilst EDIFICATION did brush DAY TO FAVOUR whilst laying in stewards were of the view that this interference was inconsequential to the outcome of the race. Therefore bearing in mind all these factors stewards therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the judges semaphored numbers. AVENUE OF STARS – Jumped in the air at the start. Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 1400m and as a result was forced to race three-wide for the remainder. EDIFICATION – Laid in for the majority of the event. HANDBALL– Began awkwardly losing ground. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. Stewards questioned jockey A Allen in relation to his riding of the gelding during the early and middle stages. Of concern to stewards was Jockey A Allen racing in a three-wide position from the 1400m when there appeared to be an opportunity to maintain a position one off the fence at that point of the race. Jockey Allen advised that as a result of beginning only reasonably he rode his mount along in the early stages and as a consequence the gelding raced keenly and when attempting to restrain between the 1600m and the 1400m the gelding threw its head in the air on a number of occasions. Jockey Allen went on to state that when again attempting to restrain near the 1400m the gelding threw its head in the air at the same time in which SPEED MAP shifted from a position on the fence to one off resulting in HANDBALL being forced to a three-wide position. Jockey Allen added that as a result of the gelding showing a tendency to race ungenerously whilst being restained earlier in the race he elected to ride the gelding forward in an attempt to cross SPEED MAP rather than being caught three-wide however his mount had insufficient speed to cross that runner and as a consequence he was obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event. Jockey Allen also stated that the gelding commenced to weaken from the 800m and for that reason he did not overly pressure it in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. PUSHKIN – Raced keenly in the early stages. SPEED MAP – Jockey L Dittman reported that in his opinion the colt did not handle the prevailing track conditions and as a consequence was reluctant to stretch out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer A Chau was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the below market expectation performance other than noting jockey Dittman’s comments however did advise the colt had raced well on soft tracks previously. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Race 4: SUPERIOR WALLS & CEILINGS Colts, Geldings and EntiresRATINGS BAND 0 - 1200 metres ROMAN HEIR – Eased when placed in restricted room near the 1100m. MEMORIAL DAY – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which tailed off in the home straight failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer S Chirnside was advised a warning would be placed on the competitiveness of the gelding. Race 5: BLAKELY SIMPSON QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 65Handicap 1200 metres ROCKIN' ARTIE – Raced three-wide in the early stages before being forced four-wide by another runner near the 700m. Accidentally dropped his whip near the 250m. TEE AMICI – Slow to begin. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained near the 1100m. DAZZLING FLASH – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. The trainer’s representative for the Sears stable was advised that the stable would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance for the filly prior to next racing. LA PETITE MISSILE – Tightened for room near the 900m and checked when racing to the inside of DAZZLING FLASH which was taken in by GREY DEFENCE which shifted in when crossing to the leading position. In this incident PRETTY DEVINE which was racing to the outside of GREY DEFENCE also shifted in when obtaining the position outside the leader. After reviewing the patrol footage which stewards found inconclusive when assessing the incident were unable to apportion complete culpability to sustain a charge of careless riding against either apprentice J Cornish the rider of GREY DEFENCE or apprentice Z Lloyd the rider of PRETTY DEVINE and therefore took the matter no further other than to advise both riders to exercise far greater care when in similar circumstances in the future.
