GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight allowances at today’s meeting-
Race 3- STELLARASHI- L Dittman- +1/2kg
Race 7- IN AWE OF ME- L Dittman- +1/2kg
Race 1: Ac-Tec Services QTIS Three-Years-Old BM62 Handicap 900 metres
MISHANI SPARTAN – Began awkwardly and then failed to muster early speed. Approaching the finish line, improved onto the heels of a tiring runner and shifted out abruptly. On returning to scale apprentice Y Lewis reported that the gelding failed to muster early speed however this is consistent with its customary racing pattern. Apprentice Lewis added that the gelding made some late ground, however, would be much better suited in races over a greater distance than today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
FLYING RUPERT – Raced wide without cover throughout. Jockey R Fradd advised that the gelding did not show the speed that he had anticipated as he felt he would have been able to cross the runners drawn to his inside in the early stages. He added that when unable to cross the runners to his inside, he was forced to race wide throughout, however in his opinion the gelding raced somewhat flat in today’s event.
HATTUSA – Began awkwardly and then failed to muster early speed.
Race 2: Ozwide Freight BM65 Handicap 900 metres
BRAVE ENOUGH – As the gelding had not raced in a period exceeding 12 months, it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the event and deemed suitable to race.
No racing incidents
COMMANDEERING – Jockey N Callow reported that in his opinion the gelding races best when able to control the tempo of races and for that reason when clearly headed by COSMIC SERENADE in the early stages, COMMANDEERING was at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event and ran on only fairly when placed under pressure from the 400m.
COSMIC SERENADE – When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer M Morrison advised that in his opinion the mare resented the cross over noseband last start and for that reason he removed this gear from the horse for today’s event. Mr Morrison added that the drop back in distance to 900m, where the mare has previously performed well, was also a major contributing factor to the improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation.
Race 3: Rate Money Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
BRAITHWAITE – Cast its near hind plate in running. Jockey J Guthmann-Chester expressed disappointment in the performance of the gelding which he advised travelled well until a point near the 600m, however when placed under pressure from this point, failed to respond to his riding as he had anticipated.
EASILY AMUSED – Raced wide without cover throughout.
NANO STAR – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.
STELLARASHI – Hung out rounding the home turn.
CANUCK – Began awkwardly, losing ground. Near the 100m, disappointed for a run and was forced to alter course to the inside to secure clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to its off-fore coronet band.
Race 4: BMD 2022 JERICHO CUP QUALIFIER BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 3200 metres
FORTIFIED – Began awkwardly, losing ground. Held up at the heels of tiring runners for some distance passing the 900m. Post-race it was observed that the gelding had sustained an abrasion to its off hind bumper.
DAWSON DIAMOND – Stewards accepted trainer C Taylor’s reasons in relation to the late rider notification. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare which tailed off revealed a poor post-race recovery.
BURY ROAD – Over raced during the early and middle stages. As a result of racing keenly, was allowed to stride forward by its rider near the 1400m, to obtain the leading position near the 1200m. Laid out rounding the home turn.
MT MORT SHARK – After being caught wide in the early and middle stages, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to obtain a position outside the leader passing the winning post on the first occasion. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding which tailed off failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Play Gold Coast Colts, Geldings and Entires BM58 Handicap 1100 metres
MR BROSE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
QUATUM – Raced keenly during the middle stages.
AIOLOS – Raced in restricted room for a short distance over the concluding stages.
AND OVER AGAIN – Slow to begin.
SPRITES – As the gelding was backing up after racing on 29 October, it was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the event and deemed suitable to race. Tightened for room at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
ALBERT'S IN CHARGE – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 6: East Coast Concrete Contractors Fillies and Mares BM58 Handicap 1100 metres
FABULOUS THINKER – As a result of becoming extremely agitated in the tie-up stalls, was unable to be saddled safely and as a result was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 4:04pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on FABULOUS THINKER be refunded with the following deductions to apply-
1st - 9c the win, 8c the place
2nd - 14c the place
Trainer L Kelly was advised that the mare would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to next racing.
MADAM AVA – Slow to begin.
Race 7: Precise Air Class 5 Plate 1100 metres
MISHANI FRAUDSTER – Tightened for room at the start.
THE BILLIONAIRE – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
EXPLOSIVE QUALITY – Bled from both nostrils. Stable representative Mr S Jones was advised that as this was the second occasion on which the mare had bled from both nostrils, it would now incur a life ban from racing.
DU MAURIER – Slow to muster early speed.
IN AWE OF ME – Following the event, jockey L Dittman report the mare felt awkward in its action during the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
