HIS REDEMPTION- Slow to begin, raced wide without majority of the race. Stewards opened an inquiry into the performance and riding tactics of the gelding. Apprentice stated she was advised the horse was new to the stable and may have lacked some training for this race. She was instructed if able to begin well to lead, otherwise find a comfortable position in the field. Apprentice stated gelding had travelled well from the 600 metres, made ground wide around the field and was good performance. Trainer L Kiernan stated he was satisfied with the ride however was of the opinion the gelding had failed to finish the race off, may have resented the tongue tie and would look to remove for its next start. Stewards were concerned with the apparent lack of vigour over the concluding stages, however given the apprentice’s experience and her admission of not being a strong rider, particularly over the distance of today’s event, Stewards took no action. It would be brought to the attention of the RQ Training Department.
