Race 1: GUNSYND BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP - 1400m
1st – DAYZARI 2nd – PROJECT COMPASSION 3rd – I DO CARE 4th-GREENBOW
DAYZARI – Slow to begin.
EASY TO SMILE – Slow to begin. Overraced for a short distance near the 1200m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
GANADO EXPRESS – Commenced to overrace on obtaining the lead near the 1200m, and continued to race ungenerously until near the 800m.
I DO CARE – Overraced when being restrained from heels near the 1200 and shifted out, inconveniencing GREENBOW.
PROJECT COMPASSION - Overraced when being restrained from heels near the 1200.
GREENBOW – Forced wider near the 1200m, and raced wide from that point.
TOUCAN UKELELE – Trainer S. McEwan was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding, which raced uncompetitively.
Race 2: GET WELL SOON – TUNNA CLASS B HANDICAP – 1200m
1st – BIZARRE ROCK 2nd – GREY DERBY 3rd – CHARZOOKA 4th – CONVOY
Jockey L. Appo became distressed on pulling up and was treated by ambulance officers. As L. Appo was unable to weigh in and Stewards were satisfied that GREY DERBY had carried its allotted weight, Stewards gave correct weight on the judge’s numbers acting under the provisions of AR142. L. Appo was stood down from his remaining rides and advised he will need to provide a medical clearance prior to riding again.
LITTLE BOMBER – Slow to muster speed.
GREY DERBY – Slow to begin.
LYNYRD SKYNYRD – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
BIZARRE ROCK – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Race 3: RACING QUEENSLAND QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200m
1st – BROADWAY SHOW 2nd – UNDER THE WEATHER 3rd – CRESCENT GLOW 4th – MADAME BOLLINGER
As L. Appo was stood down following Race 2, M. O’Brien was substituted as the rider of BROADWAY SHOW.
REAL DYNAMITE – Bumped at the start.
UNDER THE WEATHER - Bumped at the start.
LA BELLA GRACE – Shifted out on jumping and bumped another runner.
BROADWAY SHOW – Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the improved performance, stable representative B. Saunders reported that the filly was resuming after a 12 month spell at her previous start, and benefitted from the drop back in class in today’s event. Stewards noted the explanation.
MADAME BOLLINGER – Tightened for room and had to be checked shortly after the start.
CRESCENT GLOW – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: RON QUINNELL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1000m
1st – KILGHARRAH 2nd – BARAKULA 3rd – IN MY FACE 4th – SEAZA
Following L. Appo being stood down after Race 2, SPIDAZAM was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 2.35pm as no rider was available.
MANYANA MISS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be checked, then shifted in abruptly resulting in App. M. Wood becoming unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
MAGIC RAELENE – Tightened for room at the start. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
Race 5: PAT O’SHEA MELBOURNE CUP TOUR OPEN HANDICAP – 1000m
1st – JOHNNYDRAMA 2nd – MORE OF THE ZAIM 3rd – THE ROBBER 4th – CAPTAIN SPUR
Following L. Appo being stood down after Race 2, I’M THE ONE was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 3.45pm as no suitable rider was available. All monies invested on I’M THE ONE were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable:
1 cent in the dollar for the win #3
11 cents in the dollar for the place of winner #3
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place # 6
SPs not subject to deductions.
MOUNTAIN BREW – As the gelding had not raced in 18 months, it was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the race and cleared to start.
MORE OF THE ZAIM – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
BOMBPROOF – Bumped at the start.
CAPTAIN SPUR – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped another runner. Overraced when being steadied from heels in the early and middle stages.
