Race 1: CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES / BOB TOWNSON MEMORIAL MAIDEN
PLATE – 1100 Metres
 
WHAT A PEARL – Delayed the start when refused to load and was declared a late scratching at 1.47pm by order of stewards. On the announcement of
correct weight all monies invested on WHAT A PEARL were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and
11 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable. Trainer A. Bailey was advised the mare must obtain a further barrier certificate prior
to its next race start.
 
DON'T DOUBT HINCHI – Slow to begin.
 
HALF EVIL – Slow to begin.  
 
FINE IMPACT – Over-raced in the early stages.
 
Race 2: COREY MACHAN SHEETMETAL / ERIC BAKER MEMORIAL QTIS CLASS 1
HANDICAP – 1100 Metres
 
DEECATH – Due to a misunderstanding jockey G. Kliese was dually engaged and as such he was replaced by jockey N. Yadi. Bumped heavily on jumping.
 
MY SISTER SAL – Declared a late scratching at 2.28pm by order stewards acting on veterinary advice when found to be lame in the near hind leg. On the
announcement of correct weight all monies invested on MY SISTER SAL were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 31 cents in the dollar on the face value of win
bets and 21 cents in the dollar on the face value of all place bets to be applicable. Connections were advised a veterinary clearance of soundness must be provided prior
to its next race start or trial.
 
GINGER MULE – Turned its head to the adjoining outside barrier as the start was effected and took no further part in the race. Trainer S. Seymour was advised he must obtain a further barrier certificate for the gelding before it is permitted to race again.
 
KOHEETO – Shifted out abruptly at the start making heavy contact with DEECATH.
 
BELLE ADELE – Had a tendency to over-race in the early stages.  
 
ANTIQUE LACE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
TOUCH OF BALI – Lost both font plates and the off-hind plate during the race.
 
Race 3: GILVEAR PLANNING OPEN HANDICAP – 1100 Metres
 
ZAKHEERA – Slow to begin.
 
GDANSK – Began awkwardly.

KAHUNA – A post-race veterinary examination of KAHUNA identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. KAHUNA shall not without the permission of the Stewards: (a) be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two months; (b) start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1,000 metres in the presence of a Steward. AR79(4)
 
Race 4: CAIRNS HARDWARE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1360 Metres
 
SUNNY SAILOR – As the gelding was returning from an extended spell it was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to the race and was cleared to start.
 
AMELIA'S RAINBOW – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start and reared on jumping losing considerable ground. Trainer A. Bailey was advised the mare must obtain
a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
 
YOSHI TORANAGA – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Commenced to race fiercely approaching the 400 metres and improved onto the heels EAGLE EYE STAR, clipping that runner’s heel’s and being checked.

EAGLE EYE STAR – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
VULPES – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
LET'S CONQUER – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
ACTON SHALE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 5: FULLER SPORTS GORDONVALE CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1800 Metres
 
FAST TRAIN – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure near the 100 metres crowding NEW KING before being corrected.
 
NEW KING (GB) – Momentarily unbalanced near the 300 metres. Crowded near the 100 metres.
 
WHITTERICK – Laid in for the majority of the race. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
THE BEAT GOES ON – Breast plate broke during running causing the saddle to shift back.
