Racing Queensland Stewards Report

GYMPIE TURF CLUB: 5 March 2016.
Weather: Fine Track: Sand Rail: True
Stewards: K Daly, C Fedrick, W Moore (club)
Starter: G Honeywill
Clerk of Scales: Stewards
Judges: M Henderson, L Smyth
Veterinarian: Dr P Agnew
Swab Attendant: B Andrews
Betting: Stewards
Jockey Advocate: S Scriven

General: Stewards considered a complaint from an on-course punter regarding a bet placed with licensed bookmaker Mr Terry Lucas. Evidence revealed the punter was of the opinion he had placed a $100 bet on the racehorse ENGLISH (Syd. Race 6 3:50pm), however on perusal of the betting ledger of Mr Lucas and the betting ticket itself, stewards determined the bet was consistent with being placed on the racehorse EXTRAVAGENT ( Melb. Race 8 3:30pm). As such stewards ordered the bet to stand and no further action taken.

RACE 1: CLASS B HDCP 1030 Metres

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, J Hoopert rider of second past the post MONO GIRL, requested to view the photo finish image. After doing so, stewards declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored by the judge.

CALGARY – when questioned regarding disappointing performance App. A Spinks reported the gelding never travelled at any stage of the race and in his opinion failed to handle the sand track. Trainer A Haywood advised that he would not be starting CALGARY on sand tracks in the immediate future.

RUSTIC MISS – began awkwardly. Rider reported in the early stages was reluctant to stretch out when receiving kickback when racing behind runners.

MR ROCKHARD – worked strongly during the preliminary, examined by club Vet on arrival behind barriers and cleared to start.

BASILISK – contacted enclosure gate on moving onto track, examined by club Vet and cleared to start. When questioned regarding poor performance rider R Faehr stated the gelding never travelled in the run and was disappointing. A post race vet exam revealed BASILIK to be sore in the near foreleg. Trainer M Bailey was advised BASILIK would require a vet clearance prior to its next race start.

RACE 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1170 Metres

CLANG’S TOUCH – when questioned regarding the poor performance rider A Taylor stated the gelding was never competitive and in her opinion was most disappointing. A post race Vet examination revealed no significant abnormality. Trainer M Bailey advised stewards the gelding would now be leaving his stable. In the circumstances stewards advised CLANG’S TOUCH must perform one satisfactory trial prior to its next race start.

MANNY SUGGESTIONS – dislodged rider during the preliminary and galloped for some distance. On being returned to the saddling enclosure to be examined by the club Vet, was unable to be remounted and was declared a late scratching at 2:00pm. On declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered all bets on MANNY SUGGESTIONS be refunded in full with deductions of 9 cents win and 12 cents place on face value of all winning bets to apply. Trainer K Hill was advised MANNY SUGGESTIONS must perform one satisfactory trial prior to its next race start.

OUR BOY – rider R Faehr was fined $100 under AR173A for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100 metres (seven times).

COPPER COIN – a short distance after the start attempted to buck for some distance resulting in the gelding losing considerable ground. Trainer G Taylor was advised COPPER COIN would be stood down until it performs one satisfactory trial prior to its next race start.

RACE 3: CLASS 1 HDCP 1170 Metres

PRINCE RAHEEB – the race book showed blinkers when not part of advertised gear. An announcement over the public address announced the same. Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

FIERY MISS – after being loaded into the barriers kicked out behind and sustained lacerations to the near hind leg. Acting on Vet advice was declared a late scratching at 2:43pm. On declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all bets on FIERY MISS be refunded in full with deductions of 36 cents win and 30 cents place on face value all winning bets to apply. Representative for trainer M Mair was advised FIERY MISS would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.

BUCK THE SYSTEM – when questioned regarding the below market performance app A Spinks stated the gelding hung out a short distance after the start and contacted another runner, and when placed under pressure leaving the 600 metres failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. A post race Vet examination of the gelding failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M Hassam indicated she would continue with the horse’s preparation and advise stewards of any condition that may come to light in the coming days.

RACE 4: OPEN HDCP 1170 Metres

The start of this event was delayed two minutes to avoid a clash with a southern event’s feature race.

LEGAZPI – slow to begin, then unable to muster early speed. Rider K Gates reported at scale the gelding was first up today after a spell and is better suited to races over a longer distance.

RACE 5: BENCHMARK 50 HDCP 1470 Metres

GROOMED FOR GLORY – checked and lost ground approaching the 200 metres.

AIR DIAMOND – had to be steadied when crowded for room near the 1200 metres.

THE YES MAN – came together with another runner when jumping away.

CASA CIELLO – came together with another runner when jumping away.

HALLE CAT – rider K Gates pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 200 metres she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GROOMED FOR GLORY resulting in that runner having to be checked and lose ground. The riding licence of K Gates was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight 5 March 2016 up to and including midnight 13 March 2016. In assessing penalty stewards took into account her good riding record and guilty plea.

GLENROCK MAX – shifted in near the 1200 metres and crowded another runner. Rider J Hoopert was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
