Race 1: LANDMARK/MOUNTS MACHINERY/WILLIAMS HALL CHADWICK QTIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1000m
1st – CHRISTIES JOY 2nd – BOB MARK'S BOY 3rd – IRISH DARK 4th – SPINY BURR

FIRE ROSE – Examined by the veterinary surgeon after becoming fractious in the barriers and cleared to start. Steadied from heels near the 100m.

CHAMPAGNE LILY – After being difficult to load, stood flat-footed and lost significant ground. Took no competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. McEwan was advised the mare would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to racing again.

MISS RALPHIE – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

SPINY BURR – Laid out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

IRISH DARK – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.


Race 2: WATKINS & CO/IOR PETROLEUM CLASS B HANDICAP – 1200m

FIELDS OF OXLEY – Knuckled at the start.

GOHARDASUN – Bumped another runner at the start.

DASHINGLY – Bumped another runner at the start.

GUNS 'N' GUITARS – Slow to begin. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. When questioned, jockey B. Powell reported that after beginning poorly, the mare resented the kickback and did not respond to his riding. He added that the when the mare won at its previous start it was on a damper track with less kickback. Stewards noted the explanation.

MAXADRAMA – Raced wide throughout.


Race 3: F K GARDNER & SONS/ ELDERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1200m
1st – I'M THE ONE 2nd – EMPEROR 3rd – PLATTERS 4th – MURPHY'S COAL DUST

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of EMPEROR and PLATTERS to view the photo finish. After viewing the image, all parties were satisfied with the judge's placings and correct weight was declared.

GARDER LA FOI – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SARSGHI – Hung out rounding the first turn and bumped another runner.

EMPEROR – Bumped near the 1100m.

DESERT PLAYBOY – Raced wide throughout.

HEARTY CLANG – When questioned regarding the performance, jockey B. Richardson reported that after beginning from an outside gate she was forced to race wide throughout the event, and the gelding did not respond to her riding in the home straight. She added that in her opinion the gelding is better suited to races over a shorter distance than today's event. Stewards noted the explanation.


Race 4: SUFFCON BENCHMARK 60 HCAP – 1400m
1st – THUNDA COOKIE 2nd – WARCRUSHER 3rd – MAGIC GLENYCE 4th – MUGMARINO

DARKNESS ABOVE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

WARCRUSHER – Bumped another runner at the start.

MAGIC GLENYCE – Bumped another runner at the start.

RED BERETTA – Slow to begin. Near the 1000m, made heavy contact with the running rail and became extremely unbalanced, nearly dislodging its rider, when tightened for room inside MUGMARINO (C. Bryen), which shifted in abruptly. At a subsequent inquiry C. Bryen explained that MUGMARINO raced erratically in the early and middle stages and was difficult to steer. Mr B. Johnson, trainer of MUGMARINO, was advised that the gelding would be required to perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to racing again. Following this incident RED BERETTA took no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

CASTLEDALE LAD – Following the event, trainer C. Smith reported that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. Mr Smith was informed that the gelding would incur a three month ban from racing and would be required to perform a 1000m gallop in the presence of stewards prior to racing again.


Race 5: SANTOS GLNG INJUNE CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1400m
1st – REGAL PRINCE 2nd – ELLIE LA VIE 3rd – CRAWFISH 4th – MORE OF THE ZAIM

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow jockey B. Richardson, rider of the third placegetter, the opportunity to view the stewards film, After viewing the footage she declined to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the judge's numbers.

PLUM BOB – Bumped another runner at the start. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 1200m.

TESTASCANA – Bumped another runner at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

ELLIE LA VIE – Raced wide throughout.

CRAWFISH – Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. Steadied from heels passing the winning post.

REGAL PRINCE – Shifted out abruptly passing the winning post despite the efforts of its rider.
