MAZDEN STAR – Slow to begin.

SHUDAPUTARINGONIT – Jumped away awkwardly.

LEGS UNBARRED – Severely hampered soon after the start when tightened for room between runners. Overraced in the middle stages when the pace was slow.

GIRLS SAY – When the tempo of the race slowed passing the 700m had to be steadied off heels when overracing, shifted wider on the track and was ridden forward from that point. Jockey R. McMahon was cautioned and advised to ensure he rides his mounts out to the end of the race.

WARRIOR OF PEACE – Overraced in the middle stages when the pace was slow.

RAPID BOY – Unable to secure clear running in the home straight until over the concluding stages. App R. Jamieson was reprimanded for failing to ride her mount out to the end of the race.

RACE 2: XXXX Summer QTIS 2YO Maiden SW Plate – 1100m

RELAMPAGO – Knuckled on jumping away.

IYLESAY – Had to be checked soon after the start when tightened for room between runners. Following this the filly put in a number of awkward strides, lost ground and took no competitive part in the race. Stable representative Mr T. Rayward was advised that the horse must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SHIPWRECKED - Had to be checked soon after the start when tightened for room between runners. Approaching the 800m had to be steadied from heels and shifted out and raced 3 wide from that point. When asked to explain the performance jockey J. Byrne stated the gelding hung out for a major part of the race, which resulted in him being forced to race wide. Jockey Byrne added that it was for this reason he did not ride his mount out to the end of the race in his normal vigour. Stewards noted his explanation. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained a large laceration to the off side cheek and a routine swab sample was taken. Stable representative D. Gollan was advised that a warning would be placed against the gelding regarding its racing manners.

SECOND TIME AROUND – Inconvenienced and taken wider near the 800m.

MR EPIC – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

RACE 3: Schweppes Maiden SW Plate – 1350m

Stewards considered an objection lodged by J. Lloyd the rider of MAJOR IMPROVEMENT which finished second against CARMENERE (B. Pengelly) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the official patrol footage stewards were of the view that CARMENERE did shift in towards MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over the concluding stages and made slight contact. However, the stewards could not be satisfied that this incident had a material affect on the placings particularly bearing in mind the vicinity to the winning post in which the incident occurred and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the numbers semaphored.

SECRET LISTENER – Where the false rail met the course proper, near the 1100m, shifted in and became awkward on the running rail and as a result lost ground.

BIANTIC – Shifted out passing the 1000m and bumped DECIBEL DAN.

DECIBEL DAN – Bumped near the 1000m.

STAR OF BETHLEHEM – Steadied from heels near the 1000m.

MISS CHUMLEY – Tightened and made contact with the running rail near the 1000m and lost ground.

PROSPECTING – Near the 500m improved up onto heels and had to be checked.

SHARP BIJOU – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

RACE 4: Pepsi Max Maximum Taste Class 4 H’Cap – 1200m

PURE WHISPER – Connections advise from the inside barrier today will be ridden closer to the speed if circumstances permit. After beginning slow to begin, trailed the field throughout and took no competitive part in the race despite the efforts of its rider. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slightly lame in off fore leg. Stable representative B. Rogers was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior the horse racing again. Mr Rogers indicated that the horse would now be sent for a spell.

ACTION BUTTON – Jockey R. Fradd reported that the filly failed to handle the firm track conditions today.

WATLING - When questioned as to the performance jockey T. Harrison was unable to offer any tangible explanation and expressed her disappointment in the gelding's performance. Trainer R. Heathcote also expressed his disappointment and undertook to obtain both a veterinary and endoscopic examination, the results of which he would provide to stewards.

RACE 5: Enjoy Sirromet Wines Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 3 WR 0.5kg – 1350m

KURRAJONG DRAGON – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight.

SKYTASTIC – Slow to begin.

WATER BOY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. Weakened in the home straight. When questioned as to the disappointing performance jockey R. Wiggins stated that despite being obliged to race 3 wide without cover throughout the gelding's performance was nonetheless disappointing. Jockey Wiggins added that in the early stages he attempted to press forward to obtain a position outside of the leader however, the gelding failed to respond which resulted in him being obliged to race 3 wide. Jockey Wiggins was of the view that the gelding may have come to the end of its current preparation. Trainer's representative S. Morrisey expressed his disappointment in the gelding's performance but will wait to see how the gelding recovers following the race before making a decision on its current preparation. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.

RACE 6: Sirromet 5 Star Winery Fillies & Mares Class 3 H’Cap – 1350m

REVACIOUS – Trainer B. Baldwin advised, prior to the race, that subsequent to the mare's poor performance at its last start he had blood tests carried out and an endoscopic examination which have indicated the horse is in good health and he is expecting an improved performance. Jockey T. Bell reported that the mare was inclined to hang out for a major part of the race when racing 3 wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to be exhibiting signs of a cough.

RACE 7: Ray White Ipswich Class 3 WR 1.5kg H'Cap – 1020m

QUEEN CAESAR – After sustaining an injury on the way to the track the mare was declared a late scratching at 2.23 by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice.

TRUE PASSION – Slow to begin. After passing the 800m commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels.

ROUBAIX – Raced wide without cover throughout.

EAGLE'S NEST - Raced wide without cover throughout.

RACE 8: Optus Business Centre Ratings Bank 0-70 H’Cap – 1695m

All monies invested on CROUPIER were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4.28 p.m.:-

7 cents in the dollar for the winner - #1(THE YOWIE)
7 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #1 (THE YOWIE)
6 cents in the dollar for the 2nd place - #2 (UNION)
7 cents in the dollar for the 3rd place - #8 (HER CHOICE)

Trainer P. Kalinowski was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to CROUPIER racing again.

SHOW OF STRENGTH – Hung out for a major part of the race.

HER CHOICE – Jockey P. Hammersley was fined $200.00 for weighing in overweight.

HOME TO THE BRIDE – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack during the event. Stable representative for trainer F. Adams was advised that the horse will incur a mandatory 3 month ban and must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward prior to racing again.

CAPTAIN FASTBUCK – Stewards questioned jockey M. Cahill regarding the riding tactics adopted on the gelding, which led throughout, which is in contrast to its most recent racing pattern. Jockey Cahill stated he had no specific instructions other than to ride the horse where it was comfortable, and as he had formed the view that it was more advantageous to settle in a forward position on today's track he elected to ride forward in the early stages. Jockey Cahill added that when challenged by UNION in the middle stages he was reluctant to surrender the lead as CAPTAIN FASTBUCK was travelling comfortably and he was satisfied with the tempo being set. Trainer G. Kirkup explained that the gelding was having its first start for his stable today and confirmed he did not give jockey Cahill any specific instructions. The explanation of both parties was noted however, trainer G. Kirkup was reminded of his obligations to notify stewards of any notable change of tactics in future.
