RACE 1: ACTIVE BODY CONDITIONING MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

RAPID BOY – Forced wider by another runner approaching the 700m and raced wide from that point onwards. Bumped by another runner near the 350m and became unbalanced.

MAJOR APPROVAL – As M. Cahill was delayed arriving on course due to transport difficulties, J. Matthews was substituted as the rider of this runner. Slow to begin. Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start. Overraced in the middle stages and shifted out, forcing another runner wider.

HONEY AND ROSES – Laid in shortly after the start despite the efforts of its rider. Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Had to be steadied approaching the winning post when tightened for room by MAJOR APPROVAL, which shifted in and away from WAR BABY.

RED HOT ELEMENT – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a midfield position with cover if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Shifted out near the 350m and bumped another runner. Improved on to heels approaching the winning post and had to be steadied.

SOMERSET DAWN – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground. Shifted in and made contact with the running rail a short distance after passing the winning post.

WAR BABY – Trainer B. Mackay was fined $200 for failing to effect a gear change by the prescribed time. Had to be steadied when tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.

RACE 2: REMEMBERING LONG TAN/IPSWICH SUB BRANCH RSL F&M CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

HOLLYWOOD BARBIE – Slow to begin and then unable to muster any early speed.

KISSED BY DESTINY – Lost its near fore plate in running.

BECCA THE JET – Began awkwardly.

RACE 3: CLIFT PEARCE ACCOUNTING QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1350M

EL CAMPEADOR – Lost its off hind plate in running.

TIME'S UP – Began awkwardly and made contact with its outside barrier gate. Overraced in the early stages. Had difficulty obtaining clear running and unable to improve from leaving the 500m until near the 300m. Had to be checked shortly after the winning post to avoid the heels of EL CAMPEADOR, which shifted in crowding that runner. T. Harrison, the rider of EL CAMPEADOR, was severely reprimanded.

MORE THAN A ROSE – Improved on to the heels of another runner leaving the 800m and had to be steadied, and near the 700m had to be checked from the heels of the tiring WINDY EVENING and shift out, inconveniencing TORONTO FLYER, which shifted wider. Lost its near hind plate in running.

SHARP BIJOU – Raced three wide without cover.

RACE 4: COMMEMORATING LONE PINE IPSWICH RAILWAYS SUB BRANCH RSL MAIDEN PLATE – 1666M

DECIBEL DAN – Overraced in the early stages.

HELLO HARRA – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

THE FRANKSTAR – Slow to begin. Improved on to heels leaving the 400m and had to be steadied.

ERRANDS – Began awkwardly.

PINK CHAPERONE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

WORLD CLASS – Shifted out approaching the 400m, making contact with PINK CHAPERONE, which had a tendency to lay in.

RACE 5: PRINCE ALFRED HOTEL CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

ZIPPITY ZOU reared in the enclosure, dislodging and falling on R. Ride. As apprentice Ride sustained an injury as a result of the incident, the horse was declared a late scratching at 3.14 pm. As a consequence, the start of this race was delayed indefinitely awaiting the arrival of a replacement ambulance. After the arrival of a replacement ambulance, Races 5, 6 and 7 were rescheduled to start at 3.45 pm, 4.20 pm and 4.50 pm respectively, however the start of this race was further delayed due to apprentice Ride requiring attention. Apprentice Ride was then transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment. A post-race veterinary examination of ZIPPITY ZOU revealed no significant findings. Trainer G. Kirkup was advised that ZIPPITY ZOU must officially trial to stewards satisfaction on two occasions prior to being permitted to race again.

STRAWBERRY CRUSH, which was unable to be loaded, was declared a late scratching at 3.53 pm. Trainer G. Heinrich's stable representative, Mr B. Rogers, was advised that STRAWBERRY CRUSH will require a further barrier certificate before being permitted to start again.

Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ZIPPITY ZOU be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to bets placed prior to 3.14 pm:

11 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
13 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7
17 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1

Stewards further ordered that all monies invested on STRAWBERRY CRUSH be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to bets placed between 3.14 pm and 3.53 pm:

3 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
4 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #7
8 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1

As R. Ride had been transported to hospital, riding replacements in races 6 and 7 were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

ALKIPPE – Shifted in of its own accord approaching the winning post and made heavy contact with the running rail.

MEDIA MAID – Slow to begin.

OTOSHI – Had a tendency to overrace in the early stages. Shifted out slightly approaching the winning post, inconveniencing both MEDIA MAID and SWISS MUSIC.

SWISS MUSIC – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover.

Following the running of this event, the starting times of Races 6 and 7 were further rescheduled to 4.27 pm and 5.01 pm respectively.


RACE 6: SUNDOWNER SALOON CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1666M

KURRAJONG DRAGON – Began awkwardly and threw its head in the air, losing ground. Commenced to overrace in the early and middle stages and as a result shifted wider to improve forward and raced three wide without cover.

HER CHOICE – Blundered on jumping away, hampering MEADOW DREAMER.


RACE 7: AMBERLEY SERGEANTS MESS RAAF ASSOCIATION C,G&E CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

NATURAL SIGN – Raced wide in the early stages.

OLE PABLO – Raced wide without cover throughout.

SNIPPET EXPRESS – Tightened for room shortly after the start between OLE PABLO, which shifted in slightly, and NATURAL SIGN, which shifted out. Shifted wider leaving the 700m and raced extremely wide from that point on.
