GENERAL

Due to B. Grylls not riding at today's meeting, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer S. Lee for the late declaration of riders for Right To Roam (Race 5), Embrace (Race 7) and Code Red (Race 8).

Due to a misunderstanding L. Tilley was originally declared as the rider of LEILA'S CALL in Race 2 and was replaced by A. Fancourt.

_______________________________

RACE 1: CJ VOGLER & SON QTIS 3YO CLASS 1 PLATE - 800M

EQUAL LUCK – Began awkwardly, causing its rider to restrain at the start. Had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages.

ISLAND TANG – Slow to begin.

PONTY – Improved onto the heels of a runner approaching the 100m and had to be steadied and alter course to the inside to obtain clear running.

WHATEVER MISS – Raced 4 wide without cover.

MR HENNESSY – Trainer D. Murphy advised stewards that following the event the gelding had lacerations to its off foreleg.

RACE 2: PAINTER BOYS & GIRLS F&M MAIDEN H'CAP – 1020M

KAYENTA – Slow to begin.

DAY LILLY – Slow to begin. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

THE GREYMOUTH GIRL – Slow to begin.

POMBE BELLE – Commenced to overrace leaving the 700m and near the 600m improved onto heels and had to be steadied. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a laceration to its off foreleg consistent with being galloped on.

SOLITAIR'S VISION – Had to be steadied near the 200m when SHE'S A UNIT shifted in slightly.

STRELOVEN – Raced greenly for the majority of the race and hung out leaving the 400m and shifted wider on the track.

RACE 3: UNITED SHUTTERS & BLINDS CG&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1020M

RAFFIN SILVER – Stewards acceded to a request from trainer C. Lavin for the horse to race without its advertised gear - being a tongue-tie first time, winkers first time, which she did not believe the horse carried this gear. After further investigations following the event it was established that a gear change had not been effected correctly and therefore Miss Lavin was fined the sum of $200m. Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Hung in under pressure over the final 200m. Stewards questioned rider R. Wiggins if he was able to take a run between FOUR EXCEL and UNDERCOVER LOVER near the 350m. R. Wiggins explained that after being momentarily held up on the heels of FOUR EXCEL leaving the 400m a run did present itself to the outside of that runner, however he was mindful that UNDERCOVER LOVER had been hanging in for the majority of the race and was of the opinion it was more beneficial to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running. Stewards noted his explanation.

ALL HYPE – Slow to begin.

FOUR EXCEL – Began awkwardly, and then was further hampered at the start when tightened for room. Crowded near the 600m.

UNDERCOVER LOVER – Raced wide and had a tendency to hang in throughout the event, and near the 600m hung in despite the efforts of its rider, crowding FOUR EXCEL, which shifted in slightly, which in turn resulted in SUPER KANGAROO, which was overracing and racing in restricted room, having to be steadied.

SUPER KANGAROO – Steadied near the 600m when overracing. When attempting a narrow run near the 400m had to be steadied, and then when attempting to shift out to obtain clear running near the 300m made contact with FOUR EXCEL and was disappointed for that run and was obliged to shift inwards to obtain clear running. Jockey L. Tarrant was fined $200 in that he misconducted himself in the scales area after returning from this race by using expletives towards jockey M. McGuren.

RACE 4: SAUCE YA FACE F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M

SHE TELLS LIES – The mare was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider and was cleared to start. Jockey M. Hellyer pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 100m he permitted his mount to continually shift in approaching the winning post when insufficiently clear of ZANY LASS, resulting in Jockey S. Drake having to take hold of her mount and relinquish her position. M. Hellyer was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 15 August and to expire at midnight, 23 August. Stewards noted M. Hellyer's good record when considering penalty.

CEDA MISS – Slow to begin.

FLYING TIGER – Slow to begin.

BLACKJACK PRINCESS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and rounding the home turn until shifting wider in the straight to obtain clear running.

RACE 5: P2E LTD CLASS H’CAP – 1350M

TRICKY ROCKET – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with another runner. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

MORE THAN MONEY – Bumped at the start.

VALENTINE GIRL - Momentarily raced in restricted room approaching the 200m to the inside of TRICKY ROCKET, which shifted in under pressure. M. McGuren, rider of TRICKY ROCKET, was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.

ALL MY ANGELS – When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted, rider J. Lloyd stated he was not issued with any specific instructions other than the horse began awkwardly at its previous start and raced back in the field. However after beginning well today and with no real speed in the early stages the horse travelled comfortably in the lead and he allowed his mount to hold that position without being pressured. Stable representative Miss M. Seymour confirmed that no specific instructions were given and stewards noted the explanation.

RACE 6: TRENT SCOTT'S PLUMBING CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M

Correct weight was delayed to allow M. McGuren, rider of the 3rd placegetter, Menacing, to view the stewards patrol video over the final 200m to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against Party Spin being declared 2nd. Subsequently, M. McGuren declined to proceed.

NARSONS DUKE – Began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with its inside barrier gate and lost ground.

PARTY SPIN – Held up for clear running leaving the 500m until a point leaving the 200m where it shifted out, tightening MENACING out on to RHIATENN ROAD. G. Colless, rider of PARTY SPIN, was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

YOHO - When questioned regarding the performance, rider A. Fancourt stated that her instructions were to ride the horse in a forward position with cover if possible, however after beginning awkwardly from its wide gate, the gelding raced further back than anticipated and found the line well over the concluding stages.

RACE 7: THE GRANTS GURU CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1680M

WHITE TURF – Declared a late scratching at 9 am on veterinary advice.

BENICO'S PRINCE – Began awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with another runner.

TOPENDING – Bumped at start.

NO MAGIC NEEDED – Overraced in the early stages and threw its head in the air near the 1400m. Trainer B. Baldwin reported the horse shifted its off hind plate during running.

HIDRIFTER – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.

HYPERACTIVE – Jockey J. Morris was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. Jockey Morris was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of a half a kilogram over his declared riding weight.

EMBRACE – Trainer S. Lee reported in following days that the mare jared up and raced tired after a long prep consequently Embrace has been sent to spell. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

RACE 8: NORTHERN CITY FINANCE IPSWICH CG&E CLASS 1 H’CAP 1350M

DIVINE HARRY – Slow to begin.

NEVADA BLUE – Slow to begin.

DELNIELLO - Slow to begin.

TRICKY JET – Shifted in and away from another runner and made heavy contact with LEROY'S LUCK leaving the 1200m. Stewards afforded jockey J. Lloyd the opportunity to comment on the disappointing performance. He stated that the gelding overraced throughout and was unable to obtain cover and proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. J. Lloyd added he recommended to connections to remove the blinkers for its next race start. Stable representative Mr J. Page expressed his disappointment in the performance, however added that after the gelding was unable to obtain cover and overraced, believed this was a telling factor on the gelding being able to finish the race off, and confirmed to stewards it was now the stable's intention to remove the blinkers. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

LEROY'S LUCK – Bumped heavily leaving the 1200m. Inconvenienced soon after by VINTAGE COGNAC, which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

HE'S DIRT CHEAP - Raced 3 wide in the early stages.

CODE RED - Trainer S.Lee reported in following days that the gelding has been sent to spell.
