RACE 1: CFMEU Mining And Energy Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1666m

RED CENT – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground when the gates opened.

YOHO – After being crossed in the early stages, then commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels near the 1300m. Held up for a short distance after the 400m. Apprentice A. Fancourt reported her saddle shifted back slightly in running.

SHE'S A RUBY – Had to be steadied near the 400m when crowded slightly.

HOW CAN I HELP – Jockey B. Stewart reported that after crossing to the lead he was able to restrain and the gelding overraced with him for a short distance. He said after that the gelding t travelled nicely however was unable to quicken when other runners improved around him from the 500m and was most disappointing in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slight case of thumps.

SIPPIN'BUNDY – Lost near fore plate in running.

RACE 2: CFMEU Retired Miners Open H'cap – 1350m

BUAKAW – Hung in under pressure in the straight and was somewhat difficult to ride out.

ELLAWISDOM – Lost its off fore plate in running.

RACE 3: AMIEU Maiden Plate – 2150m

YANKEE FLYER – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden at the rear.

PINK CHAPERONE – Near the 1600m clipped a heel of COMANDO BATTAGLIA, which shifted out slightly after brushing the rail. As a result PINK CHAPERONE blundered, resulting in Rider J. Byrne being dislodged. Stewards were of the view that no rider was responsible and reported the incident as accidental.

LUSHY - Checked severely near the 1600m to avoid the fallen rider.

SMILING MISTRESS – Checked severely and shifted out to avoid the fallen rider near the 1600m.

COMANDO BATTAGLIA – Had difficulty securing clear running near the 400m for a short distance. Struck the running rail approaching the 1600.

AMAWIN - Struck the running rail approaching the 1600.

DUKE OF KINGSFORD – Held up behind weakening runners from the 400m to the 300m.

RACE 4: Miners Federation Centenary Cup Benchmark 80 H'cap – 2150m

SLIVOVITZ – Pulled very hard in the early stages of the event and was unable to be restrained by its rider, resulting in him having to shift out near the 1400m and allow it to stride forward where it eventually crossed to race outside the lead at the 1000m. Jockey Cahill reported that the manner in which the horse raced in the first half of the event resulted in it failing to finish the race off.

INIQUITY – Laid in over the concluding stages.

RACE 5: CFMEU Mining And Energy Qld District Maiden Plate – 1350m

HELL OF A QUEST – After moving onto the track the mare refused to proceed to the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 3.08 pm with the following deductions applicable.

11 cents in the dollar for the Win #12
12 cents in the dollar for place of winner #12
12 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #13
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #2

SP bets are not subject to deductions

Trainer R. Simpson was advised that HELL OF A QUEST must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

CATCH JACK – Slow to begin.

TALE OF FORTUNE – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

BUSY – Raced 3 wide without cover.

TEEKAYO – Raced 4 wide without cover.

EIGHT CHANCE – Raced wide throughout. Had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of DECIBEL DAN near the 1200m. Jockey J. Lloyd explained from the awkward draw it was his intention to be midfield with cover if possible however after being crossed in the early stages he was then left racing 3 wide following BUSY and to the inside of TEEKAYO. In the middle stages with the tempo, he would have liked to have improved, however because of the position he was racing in he was unable to do so. He said from the 800m when TEEKAYO strode forward he wanted to follow that horse however TALE OF FORTUNE then improved to his outside and again held him tight to the inside. He said as a result of this his mount was shuffled back to the rear of the field at the 600m when he had little other option but to shift wider to improve. He said the horse managed to finish the race off nicely despite the run it had and he was of the opinion that it may be better suited in races over shorter distances where it can settle better and finish off its races.

FAIRYTALE BELLE – Slow into stride.

NO MAGIC NEEDED – Hung out on the home turn.

MONSIEUR HUGHES – Inconvenienced shortly after straightening.
