RACE 1: CHANNEL 7 MAIDEN H’CAP – 1100M

ALL NATURAL – Raced three wide throughout.

THE DOORMAN – Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MONAVERGNE, then shifted in and brushed the hind quarters of NILETTE. Raced three wide throughout. When questioned regarding the horse's performance, R. Fradd stated that after beginning awkwardly the gelding was obliged to race three wide and near the 800m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room. Jockey Fradd added that the gelding raced greenly and in his opinion would benefit from today's race experience.

JAGNIWAS – Had to alter course around the heels of SPINY BURR in order to improve passing the 200m and then was placed in restricted room between runners passing the 100m.

MONAVERGNE – Raced three wide without cover.

NILETTE – Lost its near hind plate in running.

FOR ME ARGENTINA – Apprentice B. Stower was fined $100 for weighing in overweight.

RACE 2: RAY WHITE IPSWICH QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

DAME VAN WINKLE – Slow to begin.

HEART OF A REBEL – Slow to begin.

SCRAWLING – Raced three wide for a major part of the race.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to SOFT 6.

RACE 3: SKY RACING F&M RATINGS BAND 0-70 H’CAP – 1350M

KYLIE'S ROCKING – Compounded in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer L. Hatch indicated that the mare would now be sent for a spell.

MOCK ME NOT – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

ATTITUDINAL MISS – Slow to begin.

RHIATENN ROAD – Slow to begin.

RACE 4: SCHWEPPES C,G&E RATINGS BAND 0-70 H’CAP – 1350M

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer S. Jones for the late declaration of J. Morris as the rider of NO DOUBT A DIAMOND.

I'M HECTOR – R. Fradd reported that he placed the gelding under pressure leaving the 800m in a attempt to improve his position, however it commenced to lay out and as a result was forced to race extremely wide rounding the home turn. Jockey Fradd noted that the gelding was first up from a spell today and would improve over further distances.

STONE IN HIS SHOE – Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Weakened badly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a fresh laceration on the offside corner of the mouth.

RACE 5: SIRROMET MAIDEN PLATE – 1666M

MAKAS KING RULER – Raced three wide throughout.

TEEKAYO – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

ASPEN STREET – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

WHEN IN DOUBT – Slow to begin.

As Matthew Palmer was stood down from his remaining engagements by QAS paramedics after riding in this event, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

RACE 6: CITY OF IPSWICH CLASS 1 PLATE – 2150M

LUSHY – Due to the slow pace in the early stages, the mare was allowed to stride forward to the lead approaching the 900m. The veterinary surgeon reported that the mare had sustained minor lacerations to both forelegs.

NEAR THE CITY – Jumped away awkwardly and soon after was tightened for room between SUNCANSING and LUSHY, which shifted in slightly. Stewards questioned apprentice M. McGillivray regarding his riding of the mare from the 600m until soon after straightening, particularly where the opportunity existed to shift to the outside of the heels of COMANDO BATTAGLIA and improve into the race trailing DESERT GAMBLER. Apprentice McGillivray explained that his mount was inclined to hang in at various stages during the race and for this reason he remained to the inside, which resulted in him being held up until the early part of the straight. Stewards advised apprentice McGillivray that in their opinion he erred in his riding from the 600m in not attempting to shift away from COMANDO BATTAGLIA, which had commenced to weaken from the 700m, however stewards did not believe that his decision at this point of the race was so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules and took no further action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare had been galloped on on the off hind leg and had lost the off hind plate.

RACE 7: OPTUS BUSINESS CENTRE BRISBANE SOUTH CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when the near fore plate on DUNRUNIN had to be refitted by the farrier.

SEQUALEX – When questioned regarding the horse's performance, apprentice A. Fancourt explained that she was forced to work hard to obtain the lead in the early stages when a number of runners were ridden for speed to her inside. She added that once she obtained the lead she attempted to steady her mount but soon afterwards THESSALY improved to her outside and applied pressure to her mount from the 600m. Apprentice Fancourt was of the opinion that the amount of work SEQUALEX had to do in the early and middle stages attributed to it weakening over the final part of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal recovery rate.

AL'S DELIGHT – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

DUNRUNIN – Raced three wide throughout.

WHERE'S THATDRAGON – When asked to explain the horse's disappointing performance, M. Cahill stated that the mare hung out for a major part of the race and in the home straight and this prevented him from fully riding his mount out in his normal manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed to the mare to be showing signs of being in season today.

ONE MORE MAGIC – Hampered when tightened for room at the start.

BELDAN – Jumped away awkwardly.

THESSALY – R. Wiggins was questioned regarding his riding tactics and the reason for him shifting to the outside of the heels of SEQUALEX passing the 800m, and soon afterwards applying pressure to his mount and sustaining that pressure from the 600m. Jockey Wiggins stated that his mount has shown an inclination in the past to hang in when ridden behind runners and for this reason he improved to the outside of SEQUALEX and similarly to when it was successful at its most recent start, he commenced to ride forward from the 600m. Stewards noted his explanation.
