GENERAL

Due to a malfunction with the official scales, all races were put back one race, with Race 1 to be run at 12.30 pm and Race 9 to be run at 5.15 pm.

As jockey A. Spinks failed to provide a medical clearance, he was stood down from his riding engagements and replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Spinks was advised that he will be required to provide a medical clearance before riding again.

RACE 1: CUP MARQUEE TIX SELLING FAST MAIDEN H’CAP – 800M

BUCCIERI – D. Chipman was fined $200 for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

SANTA CRUZING – When questioned regarding his riding of SANTA CRUZING, jockey Fradd stated that his instructions were to ride the horse in a forward and possibly leading position, however from its wide barrier, after beginning very well, was unable to muster enough speed to cross runners and raced further back in the field than was anticipated. He added that he tested the horse in the early stages of the straight, however it failed to let down and as such he refrained from punishing the horse over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation.

DANYSUS – Fractious in the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Began awkwardly.

DYNAMIC DRIVE – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight. Raced greenly in the home straight and was reluctant to take a narrow run between runners when presented.

ONYX LASS – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer R. Peterson was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse's barrier manners. Mr Peterson reported that ONXY LASS had speedy cuts inside the off hind leg and to the front of the near hind leg.

THUMBS UP – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event. Shifted out abruptly under pressure near the 100m.

UP THE TEMPO – Had to be steadied leaving the 900m when tightened for room between THUMBS UP, which shifted in, and IRISH VICE which, when racing greenly, shifted out.

SHOW A FLICK – Inconvenienced at the start and lost ground.

RACE 6: HUTCHINSON BUILDERS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1680M

BIANTIC – Slow to begin.

SNAPPER ROCKS – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the horse's performance, rider P. Hammersley stated that after being slow to begin, which resulted in the gelding racing further back in the field than anticipated, the horse never travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages until a point leaving the 700m where it started to improve into the race and found the line strongly over the concluding stages.

I AM THE WARRIOR – Had to be steadied near the 700m when racing in restricted room.

Whilst stewards noted the racing manners of MANKINI LOVE, apprentice H. English was nonetheless severely reprimanded and advised in future to be fully clear of runners when shifting ground.

RACE 9: FIRST NATIONAL ACTION REALTY IPSWICH CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M

As J. Orman was dually engaged, B. Pengelly was substituted as the rider of TAMBO'S HEART.

An inquiry was opened into interference near the 50m. After hearing all of the evidence and viewing the film, it was established that MOTION GRANTED (R. McMahon) had not fully obtained a run to the outside of TAMBO'S HEART, which commenced to shift out under pressure, eventually dictating the line of MOTION GRANTED, which shifted out, making heavy contact with RED CHANDELIER, which became unbalanced and was steadied when taken across the heels of AKACHETA LEE, which shifted in slightly. As stewards were of the opinion that no one rider could be held totally responsible, B. Pengelly (TAMBO'S HEART) was advised to show much greater care in similar circumstances and R. McMahon (MOTION GRANTED) was also advised to show greater care in that other options may have been available to him other than shifting out making heavy contact with another runner.
