On return to scale a protest was lodged by G. Colless, rider of the 2nd placegetter, ALL TROOPS, against GROOVY GAL being declared the winner, alleging interference from the 200m onwards. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the video, whilst stewards acknowledged that GROOVY GAL shifted out from this point, they were of the view that ALL TROOPS was inclined to shift away from GROOVY GAL and that any interference suffered by ALL TROOPS was inconsequential bearing in mind the half head margin between the 2 horses at the finish and therefore the protest was dismissed.

HAZARD BAY – Jockey T. Harrison explained the intention was to have the horse racing on the speed, however today it was somewhat fractious in the gates and for this reason she had its head turned slightly to the left and when the gates were released it began awkwardly, bounded and was slow to muster speed, resulting in her racing further back than she had anticipated. She said that after this HAZARD BAY appeared to resent racing inside other runners, and that rounding the turn she was held up and unable to improve as she would have liked, however in the straight when afforded clear running, HAZARD BAY appeared to resent racing between other runners and did not quicken as she would have liked. She added she was of the view that the gelding would be better suited being ridden up on the speed or in front if possible.
