GENERAL

As apprentice B. Appo was not riding due to personal reasons, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

RACE 1: IPSWICH CUP TIX SELLING FAST MAIDEN H’CAP – 800M

Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was fined $100 for the late declaration of A. Spinks as the rider of DE LAGO JET.

The start of this race was delayed when KAKADU PLUM, which was fractious in the barriers, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

KAKADU PLUM – Shifted in shortly after the start and made contact with another runner. Hung in and raced ungenerously leaving the 300m, resulting in the saddle shifting to the nearside, causing apprentice R. Williams to be dislodged. Trainer T. Dougall was advised that the horse will be required to trial prior to being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

BRED IN THE RED – Raced three wide without cover. Inconvenienced leaving the 300m as a result of the rider of another runner being dislodged.

DANYSUS – Slow to begin. Hampered by a riderless horse from leaving the 200m for the remainder of the race and went to the line without being fully tested.

DE LAGO JET – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced leaving the 300m as a result of the rider of another runner being dislodged.

GOING BALLISTIC – Raced wide throughout. Hung out rounding the home turn.

SEQUOIA MISS – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start and shifted in.

DANCING DERINA – Raced three wide throughout.

SWIFT TILLY – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Apprentice G. Willoughby dropped her whip near the 200m.

YOU LITTLE THIEF – Had to be steadied near the 300m when racing in restricted room to the inside of KAKADU PLUM, which was hanging in.

RACE 2: DAIMLER TRUCKS BRISBANE – FUSO QTIS 3YO BM75 H’CAP – 1350M

After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, J. Lloyd, the rider of LOFN, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged an objection against NO MORE MISTAKES being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, it was established that NO MORE MISTAKES shifted in under pressure over the final 50m when not clear of LOFN, impeding that runner, which in turn shifted in making heavy contact with RELAMPAGO. As a result, stewards upheld the objection and declared correct weight on the amended placings of 3, 7, 2, 4. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice L. Attard, the rider of NO MORE MISTAKES, was severely reprimanded.

NO MORE MISTAKES – Jumped out at the start, making contact with another runner.

RELAMPAGO – Bumped heavily approaching the winning post.

SENTIMENTAL PRINCE – Overraced in the early stages.

LOFN – Bumped at the start.

NUSKEE PARKER – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout.

RACE 3: JOHNNY T-BIRD CLASSIC QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M

COUGAR'S BOY – Raced wide throughout without cover.

A TISKET A TASKET – Bumped by another runner at the start.

DELANCIA – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

SONADOR FIRE – Began awkwardly and was then buffeted between runners on jumping away and again shortly after the start.

UP THE TEMPO – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight and shifted wider on the track.

STOKE IT UP – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

RACE 4: DAIMLER TRUCKS BRISBANE – MERCEDES TRUCKS MAIDEN PLATE – 1710M

TEEKAYO – Raced wide without cover throughout.

ERROL – Slow to begin.

HEY MR DEE AY – Overraced in the early stages. Finished at the rear of the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer T. Newing was advised that the results of an ECG must be produced and the horse must perform satisfactorily in an official trial prior to being permitted to race again.

MONACO MIRACLE – Slow to begin.

TERGRANDE – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

BUSH PILOT – Had to be steadied near the 500m when racing in restricted room between TEEKAYO and WORLD CLASS, which shifted out. Apprentice J. Orman, the rider of WORLD CLASS, was advised to exercise more care.

RACE 5: BUTTON BONANZA CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1710M

GOTHIC MIGHT – Began awkwardly and shortly after the start had to be steadied when tightened between runners.

EXCELLENT SPIRIT – Shifted out shortly after the start, crowding runners. Apprentice B. Panya was advised to make greater effort to keep her mounts straight.

FLAUTINO – Slow to begin. Held up and unable to improve from approaching the 600m until inside the 300m.

ROYAL ROULETTE – Held up and unable to improve from leaving the 600m util near the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, proving difficult to ride.

TEMUJIN KHAN – Slow to begin. On return to scale S. Bogenhuber reported that she had advised the trainer that in her opinion the gelding resented the tongue tie on for the first time today and never travelled comfortably throughout the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

DRIVING WHEELS – Raced wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

JUPITER PALM – Steadied shortly after the start when crowded for room. Held up and unable to improve for a short distance rounding the home turn.

PURE INTELLIGENCE – When asked to explain the performance of the horse, which raced ungenerously for the majority of the event, apprentice C. Dell was at a loss to explain the performance, other than that the gelding resented being urged along and failed to let down at any stage and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

RACE 6: DAIMLER TRUCKS BRISBANE – FREIGHTLINER TRUCKS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M

EXPAT ENVY – When asked to comment on the horse's performance, jockey D. Griffin explained that with the pace that was set early, his mount never travelled comfortably on the bit and, further, he felt with the rail being out 10 metres, the horse was not comfortable on today's racing surface. He added that he advised trainer M. Lakey that in his opinion the horse would be better suited on a bigger track and over a longer distance that that of today's event. Stewards noted his explanation. Whilst disappointed with the performance, trainer M. Lakey agreed with jockey Griffin's assessment and advised that it is now his intention to step the horse up over further ground at its next start.

ROCKLORD – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

WITCHES LUCK – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping another runner.

SPIRIT OF KIOWA – Bumped by another runner at the start.

EIGHT BELOW – When questioned regarding her tactics, particularly in the home straight when it appeared she had secured a run to the outside of STEAL A DIAMOND and then elected to go back inside runners at that time, apprentice B. Grylls stated that in her opinion the horse was not entirely comfortable on what she described as a softer surface out wide and as such she elected to shift back inwards where she felt was the better going, and when she did this the filly then finished the race off nicely. Stewards noted her explanation.

VON COSTABEEL – Raced three wide throughout without cover.

RACE 7: DAIMLER TRUCKS BRISBANE – MERCEDES VANS RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP

BABUR – Had to be steadied near the 400m when racing in restricted room to the inside of TUNED IN, which shifted in.

GOLFING – Raced four wide without cover.

WINDSEA – Shifted in under pressure over the final 100m and made heavy contact with the running rail close to the finish line.

TUNED IN – Raced wide throughout.

JE SUIS PREST – Had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.

WAR BABY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

PICAVINO – Raced wide throughout.

LAKOTA SIOUX – Late scratching at 7.39 a.m. An inquiry will be held regarding the reasons for the late scratching.

LOADED AND READY – When questioned regarding the horse's improved performance, M. Hellyer, who rode the horse at its previous start, advised stewards that the mare was not suited with the pace of the race at the Sunshine Coast on 8 May, which resulted in it overracing and for that reason not finishing the race off. He was further of the opinion that on that occasion the mare may have been in season, which also may have affected the performance. Stewards noted his explanation.
