PUNKENSTEIN – After straightening had a tendency to lay in despite the efforts of its rider and proved difficult to ride out.

Race 3: SIRROMET RATINGS BAND 0 – 60 H'CAP – 800M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice Adam Spinks, the rider of 4th placegetter PUDMARDELS, to view the stewards' patrol footage.

The start of this race was delayed when the near fore plate on HOW BIG'S THE HOLE had to be refitted in the enclosure. On arrival at the barriers the horse was inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

PUDMARDELS – Held up for clear running from the 300m until approaching the 100m. The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had sustained a superficial laceration to the front of the near fore coronet.

WHATEVER MISS – Raced wide throughout.

HOPETOUN STREET – Raced wide throughout. Held up for clear running from shortly after straightening until approaching the 50m.

EMBER GLOW – Raced wide throughout.

Race 4: SCHWEPPES CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M

OMNIA MARKA TAYADA – As the horse had not raced for a considerable time it underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Raced three wide throughout. Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

DAMN FINE – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

BLAZON TALES – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

ALKIPPE – When questioned regarding the horse's seemingly improved performance, trainer T. Cotsiopoulos advised that the intention at the horse's last start was to have it ridden in a forward position, however after beginning only fairly and then meeting with some interference, the horse raced further back in the field than intended. She said that today, from the inside barrier and with the blinkers on, she expected the horse to race in a forward position, which it did, and although a win was somewhat unexpected, she was not surprised by the improvement in performance.

PARELEMA – Slow into stride.

Race 5: QLD TIMES CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1666M

DAVOR – Had to be checked when tightened onto TORONTO FLYER passing the 100m. Apprentice A. Fancourt, the rider of HE'S ALL HEART, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DAVOR. Apprentice Fancourt's licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 11 February and expire at midnight on Tuesday 21 February 2017.

WARDEH – Held up rounding the home turn.

AHMAH STAR – Raced three wide midfield in the early stages before being restrained to a rearward position in an attempt to  find a position closer to the rail, but failed to do so.

HE'S ALL HEART – Slow to begin.

DESTINY'S DESIRE – Slow to begin.

Race 6: CITY OF IPSWICH RATINGS BAND 0 – 60 H'CAP – 1350M

After viewing the stewards' patrol footage, apprentice C. Bayliss, the rider of STRATALENA, placed 3rd by the Judge, lodged objections against LADY MICAELA (R. McMahon) being declared the winner, and against POUND THE PAVEMENT (Adam Spinks), being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the final 150m. After taking evidence from all parties and apprentice A. Sewell, the rider of WIG WAM BAM, and viewing the videos, it was established that near the 100m LADY MICAELA did shift in, causing tightening to WIG WAM BAM, which was taken in, slightly impeding the running of STRATALENA. However, as stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference suffered by STRATALENA was sufficient to reverse the Judge's placings, bearing in mind the margin of two lengths separating LADY MICAELA and STRATALENA at the finish, the protest was dismissed.

In relation to the protest against POUND THE PAVEMENT, stewards found that near the 100m, although that runner did shift out and marginally impede STRATALENA, there was contributory tightening from WIG WAM BAM, and bearing in mind the margin of three-quarters of a length separating both runners at the finish, they could not be comfortably satisfied that the protest should be upheld and therefore dismissed the objection. At a subsequent inquiry apprentice Adam Spinks and jockey R. McMahon were reprimanded.

LOST THIEF – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early and middle stages.

BLUE STAR – Inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

VOANABA – Slow to begin.

STRATALENA – Held up from a point passing the 400m to approaching the 200m. Tightened for room at the 150m between POUND THE PAVEMENT, which shifted out, and WIG WAM BAM, which was taken in by LADY MICAELA.
