Race 1: Mayor Paul Pisalale QTIS 2yo H'cap – 800m

PERFECT RAIN – Began awkwardly.

ASK AUDREY – Slow into stride. Raced greenly and had a tendency to lay out rounding the home turn.

MASK STEPENNY – Raced wide without cover throughout.

EPICTION – Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn.

Race 2: Truflow Class 1 H'cap – 1700m

AUSSIE TYCOON – Began awkwardly. Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

HE’S ALL HEART – Slow into stride. Overraced in the early stages, placing jockey R. Stewart in some difficulty, and after passing the 900m, when the speed was slow, he elected to shift wider and improve to obtain the lead at a point near the 800m.

CALL US PRIMI – Slightly hampered after jumping away.

Race 3: Savco Maiden H'cap – 1200m

HAVRAN – Slow to begin and then was hampered shortly after the start. Overraced approaching the 800m turn and had to be steadied off heels. Had a tendency to lay in in the home straight. Raced wide with cover throughout.

JAPALI FOX – Began awkwardly.

LA BOADICEA – Began awkwardly.

THE EXHIBITIONIST – Shifted out rounding the 800m turn despite the efforts of its rider, tightening Shadow Queen.

SHADOW QUEEN – Obliged to steady when momentarily hampered by another runner at the 800m.

LITTLE MISTER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 4: Sammut Bulow Class 1 H'cap – 1020m

MADAME TYCOON – Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for failing to declare B. Stower as rider for this horse by the prescribed time. The start was delayed when the mare got its hind leg up on the barrier partition.

PONTY – Made contact with the gate leaving the enclosure and subsequently was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and was cleared to start.

JEST EXCEL – Became fractious in the barriers and reared as the start was effected, losing significant ground. Allowed to stride forward approaching the 800m turn to take up a position in the lead. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly, jockey T. Harrison stated that after being fractious in the barriers and slowly away, her first priority was to obtain cover behind other runners, however after travelling a short distance the filly commenced to overrace and therefore she elected to allow her mount to stride forward 3 wide to eventually obtain the position outside the leader. She added that passing the 800m, JUST EXCEL was reluctant to settle and rather than attempt to restrain the filly further, she elected to stride forward to obtain the leading position. Jockey Harrison further stated her mount proved disappointing over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed an elevated heart rate and mild heat stress.

Race 5: Swichettes Ratings Band 0-60 H'cap – 1200m

PICK OF THE PUBS – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. After passing the 700m shifted out and raced 3 wide from that point onwards. PICK OF THE PUBS – Had a tendency to lay in in the home straight.

FASSLER – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the riding of the gelding passing the 300m, in particular the reason she elected to shift wider on the track to improve when there appeared to be an opportunity to improve between HEZA CHUMLEY and BALKAN BAMBINO. Jockey Darbyshire explained she was of the view that BALKAN BAMBINO was inclined to shift back in and therefore elected not to persist with that run and shifted wider to obtain clear running. She added in hindsight after viewing the patrol films it may have been a better option for her to persist and improve into that run which presented itself. Stewards were of the view that jockey Darbyshire may have erred but not to the extent as to be culpable under the rules.

LOADED AND READY – Jockey A. Sewell reported at scale that the horse jarred up during the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 6: Swich On INC Maiden H'cap – 1350m

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to view footage of the start and interview starter Mr S. Tau and assistant starter Mr G. Greisley, together with the trainer of PUNKENSTEIN, D. Duryea, and rider B. Stewart. After taking evidence from all parties, it was established that the starter attempted on 2 occasions to effect the start electronically however this failed. He then alerted the assistant starter to manually start the race from the side of the gates. Mr G. Greisley then alerted the riders that it was going to be a manual start from the side of the barriers. After considering the evidence tendered and viewing the footage of the start, stewards were satisfied that a fair start was effected by the assistant starter and PUNKENSTEIN was subsequently declared a runner despite missing the start by several lengths.

PUNKENSTEIN – Significantly slow to begin.

HEMSWORTH – Buffeted by another runner passing the 800m.

PIPEMAJOR – Raced 3 wide throughout, and hung in badly for the majority of the race, proving difficult to ride. Trainer G. Hay was advised that the gelding must trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start. Mr Hay informed stewards that the gelding would now go for a spell.

Race 7: Sirromet Ratings Band 0-60 H'cap – 1350m

LADY MICAELA – Shifted wider on the track to improve passing the 700m. Forced wider on the track by another runner rounding the home turn.

BROCSON – Elected to shift wider on the track to improve passing the 600m.

DEPUTY PECK – Overraced outside the leader in the early and middle stages.

MISHANI PHOENIX – Shifted out to improve rounding the home turn, forcing another runner wider on the track.
