Race 1: Labour Day Family Day 1 May Class 3 H’Cap – 1666m
 
The start of this race was activated manually.
 
EMVEPEE – Slow to begin.  Jockey J. Byrne reported at scale that he had his whip knocked out of his grasp the 100m.
 
BENICO’S PRINCE – Raced wide in the early stages before being allowed to improve forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1200m
 
EIGHT BELOW – Near the 400m shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped EMVEPEE.
 
 
Race 2: Channel 7 QTIS 2YO Maiden H’Cap – 1000m
 
Trainer D. Duryea was reprimanded for failing to declare B. Stewart as the rider of the emergency LAURA’S STAR by the prescribed time.
 
ROSENBAUER became fractious in the parade ring dislodging its rider and becoming loose.  ROSENBAUER was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1.40 p.m. on veterinary advice.   All monies invested on ROSENBAUER were ordered to be refunded.  Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 1.40 p.m.:-
 
4 cents in the dollar for the win - #12 (LAURA’S STAR)
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner - #12 (LAURA’S STAR)
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter - #8 (FANTASTIC HALO)
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd placegetter - #4 (GEM OF THE LOCHS)
 
Trainer S. Lawlor was advised that the gelding would be required to officially trial prior to its next start.
 
SHEEZINAJAM – Slow to begin.  When questioned regarding the performance jockey S. Bogenhuber stated that her instructions were to attempt to settle in a forward position however, after being slow to begin settled further back than anticipated.  Jockey Bogenhuber added that the filly travelled well despite racing greenly and then when placed under pressure in the home straight was inclined to lay in and failed to finish the race off as expected.  Jockey Bogenhuber further added that the filly may be better suited when able to take up a more forward position.
 
SHE WENT WISH – Began awkwardly and lost ground.  Rounding the home turn was inclined to hang out and then had to be steadied from the heels of HEY DORIS.
 
OUR KINGSMAN – Near the 800m commenced to overrace and had to be restrained from heels and continued to overrace for a short distance.
 
FANTASTIC HALO – Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale that his mount raced greenly throughout.
 
HEY DORIS – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have suffered a fracture to its off knee.   Trainer P. Duff was advised that a full veterinary clearance will be required prior to the filly racing again. Mr Duff advised stewards that it will now be his intention to send the filly for an immediate spell.
 
 
Race 3: Sky Racing Maiden H’Cap – 800m
 
LUCKY’S LIL GIRL – Severely tightened for room at the start and lost ground.  Raced wide throughout.  Jockey A. Denby reported to stewards that after suffering interference at the start she was obliged to settle further back than anticipated.  Jockey Denby added that as a result of this she was then obliged to pressure her mount to maintain a position at the rear of the field.  Jockey Denby further added that she was forced to race extremely wide rounding the home turn and given this she was not overly disappointed in the performance.  A post race veterinray examination revealed no significant findings.
 
MARIDET – Slow to begin.
 
ARGENT ETOILE – Began awkwardly.
 
MRS MONASHEE – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.  Raced wide throughout.
 
SUPAMETEOR – Had to be checked shortly after the start.
 
SHE’S FOR RANSOM – Lost ground shortly after the start when tightened for room between WILD BOYS and ZENKALI, which shifted out.
 
SEND A MEMO – Hung out rounding the home turn and then raced greenly in the home straight.
 
ELECTION DAY – Raced wide throughout.
 
VAIN BEAM – Raced wide throughout.
 
ZENKALI – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.  Cast an off hind plate in running.
 
Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 4.
 
 
Race 4: Matthews Real Estate Class 1 H’Cap – 1500m
 
Stewards accepted the explanation from trainer S. Lee for the late declaration of D. Griffin as the rider of RAHEEBA LAS VEGAS.
 
BROCSON – Slow to begin.  When questioned regarding the performance jockey Beau Appo stated that rounding the home turn BROCSON was improving into the race as expected and he elected to shift off the fence however, after doing so improved onto the heels of the weakening MONTEZUMA, resulting in BROCSON having to be severely checked and also in him losing the use of his off side iron.  Jockey Appo added he had concerns that the gelding may have sustained an injury and therefore was reluctant to pressure his mount in the early stages of the home straight, then at a point leaving the 200m the gelding commenced to improve and he then applied pressure to BROCSON in his usual manner and the gelding found the line strongly.
 
MONTEZUMA – Caught racing wide in the early stages and was allowed to improve forward to take up a position outside the leader near the 1000m.  A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened in the home straight, failed to reveal any significant findings.
 
FRISKIER – Approaching the 1000m had to be steadied from the heels of SHORT CHANGED, which shifted in and away from MONTEZUMA.
 
SHORT CHANGED – Overraced for a short distance passing the 800m.
 
NAUTICAL LAD – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.  A post race veterinray examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer J. Spencer was advised that she must obtain a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding racing again.
 
 
Race 5: Swifts Sports Club Maiden SW Plate – 1200m
 
WICKED INVESTMENT – Trainer P. Butterworth advised that from the wide barrier the instrucitons would be to take up a forward position if circumstances permit.  The horse was ridden accordingly and raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.
 
REAL GOOD STORY – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
LAKOUDIS – Began awkwardly.  Raced wide throughout.
 
CHOICE OF FRIENDS – Shortly after the start had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between MISS GEORGIANA and SIRTIME, which shifted in.  CHOICE OF FRIENDS lost ground as a result.  Jockey R. Plumb (SIRTIME) was issued with a reprimand for this incident.  Momentarily held up on the heels of CHOICE SON rounding the home turn.
 
MISS GEORGIANA – Raced ungenerously throughout and finished tailed off.  Trainer R. Lipp was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.  Mr Lipp stated that his stable representative had reported that the mare had returned with its tongue over the bit following the event which may have had an affect on the mare’s performance.
 
HOL’S SPRINGSTEEN – Raced wide throughout.
 
SIRTIME – Jockey R. Plumb reported at scale that he was disappointed in the gelding’s performance.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.  Trainer L. Kelly indicated that it would now be his intention to send the gelding for a spell.
 
JEWEL DU ROUGE – Lost an off hind plate in running.
 
 
Race 6: Mayor Paul Pisasale Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 2 WR 0.5kg H’Cap – 1200m
 
As jockey Bradley Appo was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted Beau Appo to be substituted as the rider of VIVA LA PROXY.
 
As  App J. Guthmann-Chester was overweight stewards permitted App C. Bayliss to be subsituted as the rider of EIGHT CHANCE.  App Guthmann-Chester was subsequently fined $100.
 
SACROMONTE – Bumped at the start.   When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance jockey J. Byrne stated that the gelding was inclined ot hang out throughout the event and was disappointing over the concluding stages. 
 
JIM ‘N’ ANDY – Bumped at the start.  Held up rounding the home turn.
 
LUCKY DUCKY – Held up momentarily upon entering the home straight and was obliged to shift back to the inside to obtain clear running. 
 
BROOKTON ICE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages and was unable to be fully tested.
 
PSYCHO SAID SO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
TAIYOSHIN – When questioned regarding the performance jockey G. Colless stated that after racing wide in the early stages he was able to obtain a position with cover and then when asked for an effort rounding the home turn the gelding failed to quicken as expected and in his opinion raced flat today.
 
VIVA LA PROXY – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be making an abnormal respiratory noise.  The veterinary surgeon stated that the trainer had explained that the gelding had a history of respiratory issues.  Trainer J. Anderson also indicated that the gelding would most likely now be retired from racing.  Steward advised Ms Anderson that if the gelding was to continue to race it would require a veterinary clearance along with the results of an endoscopic examination.
 
 
Race 7: Swifts Hockey Club Fillies & Mares Class 2 H’Cap – 1200m
 
KYLIE’S FAME – Stable representative advised the intention will be to go forward today if circumstances permit.  The horse settled in a midfield position and had to be steadied from heels near the 600m. 
 
JE SUIS PREST – Raced wide for the majority.  When questioned regarding the performance jockey B. Pengelly explained that it was his intention to take up a forward position however, the mare failed to show the necessary speed and as a result he elected to obtain cover in a midfield position.  Jockey Pengelly added that when he placed the mare under pressure in the home straight it failed to quicken as expected.  Jockey Pengelly further added that the mare was doing its best work over the concluding stages and would appreciate a step up in distance.
 
DAWN FIGHTER – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
WE’S DONE – Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale that his mount was striding short.  A post race veterinray examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg.  Trainer M. Nolan was advised that the mare will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
