SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Ipswich 24 October 2019 – Race 1:

On Monday, 28 October 2019, stewards inquired into the circumstances surrounding jockey Brooke Ainsworth being dislodged from SPIRIT OF EDYN after entering the home straight on the final occasion. After taking evidence from J. Byrne (SHOOT AGAIN), M. Du Plessis (BEST FOOT FORWARD) and jockey Ainsworth, it was determined that when entering the home straight on the final occasion SPIRIT OF EDYN, was travelling well and when attempting to obtain clear running  between BEST FOOT FORWARD and SHOOT AGAIN improved on to the heels of the tiring SHOOT AGAIN, which also shifted out slightly, resulting in SPIRIT OF EDYN accidentally clipping the heels of SHOOT AGAIN, blundering and dislodging jockey Ainsworth. Stewards, after considering the matter, advised jockey Ainsworth to exercise greater care in similar circumstances and noted the incident.

Race 1: QUEENSLAND TIMES MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

The start of this race was delayed when, after all runners had been loaded, BROTHER OATEL got its head down for an extended period of time.

AND FINALLY – Hampered approaching the 600m by SCARAMOUCHE, which shifted in.

BROTHER OATEL – As the horse had not started for a considerable period it underwent an pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to race. Began awkwardly. Raced greenly and laid out approaching the 600m. Raced three wide with cover. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

PATRICK’S ME MATE – Slow to begin.

SCARAMOUCHE – Raced greenly approaching the 600m and shifted in, tightening AND FINALLY, which was racing to its inside. Raced four wide without cover throughout. Laid in under pressure over the final 150m.

THE GROUSE – Laid out when racing five wide passing the 500m and made the home turn extremely wide.

SINGLE AGAIN – Stewards granted permission to apprentice B. Nothdurft to ride the filly 1kg over its allotted weight. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 2: RIVER 94.9FM CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1350M

PRICE OF TIE – Forced three wide passing the 700m by ASHMAN, which shifted out.

ASHMAN – Shifted out one wide after being crossed by SISTER PATTI passing the 700m.

SISTER PATTI – After being caught three wide without cover in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead passing the 700m.

Race 3: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB MAIDEN PLATE – 1666M

The start of this race was delayed when STRYKING EMERALD proved difficult to load.

ELLEOFADEEL – Held up for clear running from the 500m until passing the 300m. When asked to explain the tactics adopted and the performance of the mare, jockey R. Fradd stated that it was always his intention to race in a midfield position or worse, however, after being unable to obtain a midfield position from the wide barrier he elected to go back to the rear of the field to find a position closer to the rail. He added that after passing the 800m when STRYKING EMERALD shifted three wide to improve he did give consideration to shifting three wide on the back of that runner, however was mindful of being forced wide and as such he elected to remain in the one-wide position and look for opportunity towards he inside. He further added that he was held up for clear running for a short distance rounding the home turn but once he was able to shift wider on the course to obtain clear running the mare finished the race off well. It was the opinion of jockey Fradd that the mare would be better suited over a distance further than that of today’s event and on a bigger track. Stewards noted the explanation.

CITY SMART – Began awkwardly. Shifted to a three wide position with cover passing the 800m.

FA FA – Began awkwardly. Rider dropped his whip passing the 200m.

STRYKING EMERALD – Began awkwardly. Shifted three wide passing the 900m to improve.

Race 4: BOOK YOUR XMAS FUNCTION NOW QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

FIREBOX – Improved on to the heels of STUTTERING approaching the 300m and had to alter course back to the inside to secure clear running.

PHIONAIX – Laid out under pressure over the final 200m, causing its rider to stop riding on a number of occasions.

PICTON – Began awkwardly, then shifted out and was bumped on the hind quarters by LE FIGARO. Had to steady approaching the winning post after improving on to the heels of PHIONAIX.

ROCK EASY – Stood flat-footed and missed the start by several lengths. Trainer G. Banks was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required prior to the horse racing again.

STUTTERING – Fractious in the barriers and reared on a couple of occasions prior to the start being effected. Slightly inconvenienced approaching the 300m by LE FIGARO, which shifted out to improve.

LE FIGARO –Bumped by PICTON shortly after jumping, made contact with OOZES CLASS, was crowded for room and lost ground. Commenced to overrace when in a trailing position passing the 1000m, threw its head in the air on a number of occasions and proved difficult to ride. When asked to explain the performance, J. Byrne stated that although the filly received a slight bump at the start he did not have to apply pressure in the early stages to find a position, however, once in a trailing position the filly overraced throughout the event. He added that when placed under pressure the filly failed to respond and in his opinion was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

OOZES CLASS – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SE RENDRE – Lunged forward in the barriers, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Rider momentarily lost the use of his nearside rein at the 300m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly had some blood in one nostril and blood in its mouth with a loose tooth, which in the opinion of the veterinary surgeon may have been the result of head trauma due to the incident in the barriers prior to the start.
