Raced keenly passing the 1900m and had to be restrained from the heels of INFLUENCER, and then shifted out hampering GAMMA. Weakened after passing the 800m and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery, however no other abnormalities were detected.

The filly was removed from the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start. BETTER THAN BEST – When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance and tactics adopted, co-trainer T. Sears advised that last start the filly was ridden further back than anticipated from a wide barrier, and met with some interference in the early and middle stages, however still ran on well late. He added that at its first start, the filly sat up on the speed and performed quite well. He further advised that today he removed the blinkers and added winkers to the filly’s gear, and when able to be ridden more forward and down in grade, he had expected a forward showing.

DASH FOR DREAMS – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by trainer C. Munce regarding the late declaration of J. Taylor as rider. Slow to begin. When racing in restricted room to the inside of MISSY MILE approaching the 900m, the filly had to be checked and lost ground when MISSY MILE laid in slightly despite the efforts of its rider. Steadied away from the heels of MISSY MILE which shifted out passing the 700m. Held up for clear running from the 300m until approaching the 150m.

MISSY MILE – After consultation with trainer J. Wallace, Stewards permitted Apprentice N. Fazackerley to claim only 1½ kilograms of his 2 kilogram allowance which is ½ kilogram above his riding weight. Apprentice N. Fazackerley reported that his saddle shifted to the side shortly after the start which placed him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event.

DO IT – Steadied away from the heels of ALL SHIRAZ passing the 1100m. Held up after passing the 400m, and whilst rounding the home turn had to shift out abruptly to avoid the heels of MALEFIC which was weakening.

Following the running of this race a number of riders expressed some concern with a section of the track on the course proper near the 1300m, however it was noted that there were no further races to be run over that section today.
