Race 1: Kevin Keidge Memorial Maiden Plate – 1666m

As R. Wiggins was indisposed due to injury Stewards permitted B. Thornton to be substituted as the rider of SPANISH PHOENIX.

The start was delayed when NICOSMILE had to have its tongue-tie refitted.

SO YOU’RE MAGIC – Fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected. Hampered shortly after the start.

WILCARUISE – Began very awkwardly making contact with the barrier partition and shifted out. Overraced in the early stages. Passing the 1000m was shifted three wide to improve. Hung out rounding the home turn.

ANGEL MIO – Blundered on jumping.

SANDY TOES – Hampered on jumping and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.

SPANISH PHOENIX – Began awkwardly and shifted out shortly after the start.

RED RIVER LAD – After passing the 1400m commenced to hang out and raced extremely wide on the course after passing the 600m and was unable to be fully tested by its rider over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainers J. Symons and S. Laxon were advised that the gelding must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

HAWAIIAN GEM – Caught four wide in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1100m.

JUST WISHING – Raced keenly whilst in the lead in the early and middle stages.

KAAYDEH – Raced three wide without cover after passing the 1000m. Hung out rounding the home turn.

BRING ME SHOWERS – Shifted three wide to improve passing the 800m.

Jockey N. Tomizawa (PRONOUNCEMENT) was reprimanded for his use of the whip on a horse out of contention. Jockey Tomizawa was also reprimanded for using his whip arm above shoulder height.

Jockey A. Chau (HAWAIIAN GEM) was fined $300 for using his whip two times more than permitted prior to the 100m.

Jockey Chau was also reminded of his obligations regarding the manner in which he used the whip.

Race 2: Sky Racing Class 4 Plate – 1666m

THE BLACK TIDE – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with PRINNY’S SUCCESS. Performed below market expectations. Jockey B. Thornton stated that the mare did not feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities other than a poor post-race recovery.

PRINNY’S SUCCESS – Bumped heavily on jumping. Hampered shortly after and lost ground. Passing the 1200m commenced to overrace and had to be steadied away from the heels of BRYNEICH passing the 1000m.

TUNERO – Passing the 900m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of PRINNY’S SUCCESS.

ALPENDURADA – Raced three wide without cover after passing the 800m. Put in an awkward stride approaching the 400m and became unbalanced. Performed below market expectations. Jockey S. Thornton stated that in her opinion the gelding may not have been suited by today’s track conditions and may have come to the end of its preparation.

ENTERPRISE JACK – Held up from the 450m until approaching the 300m.

App A. Patis (BATTLE PLANE) was reminded of her obligations regarding her use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Jockey B. Stewart (COUNTESS DE GALVEZ) was reminded of his obligations regarding his use of the whip prior to the 100m.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Soft 6.

Race 3: Schweppes QTIS 2YO Handicap – 800m

ELECTRIC DRAGON – Began awkwardly which momentarily unbalanced its rider.
FREYJA – Slow into stride. Near the 450m was tightened for racing room and steadied.

REAL FINE WINE – Laid in after passing the 600m and continued to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

FLINDERS PARADE – Near the 500m improved onto the heels of REAL FINE WINE, which shifted in slightly and had to shift to the inside to obtain clear running.

DARK SON – Raced three wide throughout.

Race 4: Sirromet QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 1100m

As Jockey E Ljung was unable to weigh in as she was being examined by Queensland Ambulance Personnel on the track, Stewards acting under AR208(3)(b) were satisfied BAD BARISTA had carried its allotted weight and declared correct weight on the judges numbers.

GOLDEST – Fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected. Slow to begin. Bumped heavily shortly after the start. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

HERTZKA – Slow to begin and crowded for room between GOLDEST and AHRI’S AMORE. Hung out rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.

AHRI’S AMORE – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. Passing the 700m improved onto the heels of BOOM RANGA and had to be restrained.

BAD BARISTA – Raced greenly and hung out rounding the home turn. After passing the winning post the filly shied out and slipped making heavy contact with the outside running rail dislodging its rider. Jockey E. Ljung was subsequently examined by the QAS officers and cleared of any apparent injury however Stewards advised Jockey Ljung that a medical clearance would be required prior to her next race ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have blood in its mouth due to a lost tooth and some minor abrasions on its chest. Trainer R. Lipp was advised that the filly would have to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.

BOOM RANGA – Laid in over the final 250m.

SAKURA STAR – Performed below market expectations. When questioned Jockey L. Cassidy stated the filly settled further back than he had initially anticipated due to the early speed drawn inside and did not finish the race off as expected. Jockey Cassidy further stated the filly may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer C. Munce was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the filly racing again.

Race 5: Carlton Mid QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate – 1100m

As R. Maloney was dually engaged Stewards permitted M. Du Plessis to be substituted as the rider of ZAYDE. Stewards accepted the explanation.

BETTER RUSH – Began awkwardly and shifted in abruptly crowding runners to its inside.

HE KNOWS – Bumped and crowded for room on jumping and lost ground. Approaching the 900m commenced to overrace.

MISS MCKINLEY – Bumped on jumping.

UNO ZOOM – Slow to begin. Passing the 900m commenced to race fiercely and raced ungenerously for a short distance when being restrained from the heels of HE KNOWS. Approaching the 700m when racing in restricted room was brushed by ZAYDE, which laid in slightly, and became unbalanced and in doing so shifted in crowding CLAIRVUE JET.

CLAIRVUE JET – Passing the 700m was hampered when crowded for room by UNO ZOOM.

LUSKIN HERO – Raced greenly approaching the home turn and laid out.

ATLANTIC ROYAL – Held up approaching the home turn. Jockey R. Fradd lost the use of his offside rein for a short distance over the final 100m.

SIENNA’S CHOICE – Approaching the 250m laid in when placed under pressure causing its rider some difficulty.

Race 6: Grandview Stud Maiden Handicap – 1100m

The start was delayed slightly when ISSAQUAH proved difficult to load.

TOPLINE – Fractious in the gates prior to the start being effected. Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.

AONACH MOR – Began awkwardly.

HOGAN’S DARE – Bumped on jumping.

CAT TWO – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1000m when in a trailing position with cover commenced to overrace and proved difficult to restrain. Passing the 700m when racing greenly laid out forcing ISSAQUAH wider on the course.

CHICO MILAGRO – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily with SENDING LOVE.

SENDING LOVE – Bumped on jumping.

OUR OPINION – Raced keenly in the early stages.

ISSAQUAH – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: Ray White Ipswich QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate – 1350m

The start was delayed when BLITZEN PASTURE proved difficult to load.

PERSIAN KING – Bumped on jumping. Had to be steadied approaching the winning post when awkwardly placed at the heels of SISTER KATHLEEN after being slightly taken in by LOUD NOISE, which laid in.

YARRA SPIRIT – Bumped on jumping.

BLITZEN PASTURE – Shortly after the start was bumped on the hind quarters by REBEL SALUTE.

REBEL SALUTE – Bumped shortly after the start.

KEEN ON GOLD – Held up passing the 450m and was unable to improve until approaching the 300m when shifting wider on the course to obtain clear running.

SISTER KATHLEEN – Held up rounding the home turn. Again had some difficulty securing clear running approaching the 150m.

LEO THE LION – Passing the 300m when placed under pressure laid in causing its rider to stop riding and straighten. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

LORNA DOONE – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

PETRALIA - Raced three wide with cover throughout.

Jockey Andrew Spinks (LEO THE LINE) was fined $300 for using his whip four times more than permitted prior to the 100m.

Race 8: TAB Benchmark 72 Handicap – 1200m

HERITAGE SASH – Began awkwardly.

PRINCESS CAVALLO – Slow to begin.

HOLLABACK GIRL – In the early stages was caught three wide and was unable to obtain cover. Passing the 900m its rider elected to ride forward to obtain the lead passing the 800m.

SHOOTING LOVE – Passing the 500m raced in restricted room to the outside of OTTAMAE, which laid out slightly and HERITAGE SASH, which laid in slightly.

CELTIC TIGER – Laid in rounding the home turn.

OTTAMAE – When asked to comment on the performance Jockey R. Maloney explained that the mare travelled only reasonably throughout the event and when placed under pressure approaching the home turn failed to respond to his riding. Jockey Maloney further added that approaching the 100m he was of the opinion that something may be amiss with the mare and therefore he desisted in pressuring his mount over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a mild nasal discharge and a post-race cough. Stewards after determining the clinical examination of the mare advised Trainer D. Vandyke that it would require a veterinary clearance and an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again. Mr Vandyke advised Stewards that he would also consider the mare’s immediate racing future. A post-race swab sample was taken.

Jockey W. O’Connell (CELTIC TIGER) was reprimanded for his use of the whip prior to the 100m.

App J. Huxtable (HERITAGE SASH) was fined $400 for using his whip two times more than permitted prior to the 100m. In considering penalty Stewards took into account his recent poor record.

Jockey B. Ainsworth (PRINCESS CAVALLO) was reminded of her obligations regarding her use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Soft 5.

Race 9: Ipswich Carpet Court Class 1 Plate – 1200m

Stewards accepted the explanation for the late scratching of TWERK at 7.43 a.m.

The start was delayed when INDY BONBON had to be resaddled prior to be loaded.

GENZAI THE WOLF – Began awkwardly and bumped GRACE OF MONACO. Approaching the 700m hung out and made slight contact with SCHWEID AS and then continued to lay out for the remainder of the event.

GRACE OF MONACO – Bumped on jumping. Raced in a rearward position throughout. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey Andrew Spinks explained that he was of the opinion that something may be amiss with the mare and therefore he desisted in pressuring his mount in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow post-race recovery.

SCHWEID AS – Passing the 600m was slightly bumped by GENZAI THE WOLF and became awkwardly placed at the heels of MARY JANE and had to be restrained and shifted wider on the track. Passing the 200m commenced to lay in when placed under pressure.

SVINDAL – Approaching the 300m had to be eased when awkwardly placed at the heels of INDY BONBON, which shifted out to improve. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

MILITARY KINGS – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

Race 10: River 94.9FM Class 2 Handicap – 1350m

HAIL MANHATTAN – Trainer W. Hulbert advised it would be the preferred option for the horse to be ridden more forward today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

ROCK ‘N’ SOL – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and then had to be shifted wider on the course passing the 200m to secure clear running.

AXELLA – Bumped shortly after jumping and was then crowded for room between TRANSVERSALE and FEARLESS QUEEN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from the offside nostril. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that the mare would be required to gallop a 1000m in the presence of Stewards prior to being permitted to race again.

HANNAH’S SONG – Shortly after the start had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MISS DAIQUIRI, which shifted in. After being caught three wide was ridden forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 800m.

TOO HARD TO MISS – Approaching the 900m laid in away from HANNAH’S SONG and in doing so bumped TRANSVERSALE and became unbalanced. Raced three wide with cover throughout. Performed below market expectations. Jockey J. Byrne reported that he felt something was amiss with the mare’s breathing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed TOO HARD TO MISS to be making an abnormal noise and had a cough. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that a veterinary clearance together with the results of an endoscopic examination must be provided prior to the mare racing again.

FEARLESS QUEEN – Passing the 900m had to be restrained from the heels of TOO HARD TO MISS and shifted wider on the course and raced four wide without cover from that point.

TOP ME UP AGAIN – Raced three wide with cover after passing the 700m.

HEEBEE RIGHT MATE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Jockey M. Du Plessis (MISS DAIQUIRI) was fined $200 for using his whip three times more than permitted prior to the 100m.
