SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Thursday 28 December 2023 – Warwick Races: Race 5: TREVOR SCHOORL MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1100m).

KOZANI – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, which saw the gelding obtain a position with cover at the rear of the field, Trainer J. Bruce stated KOZANI, that usually begins extremely well, was less suited by the wide draw and faster tempo of this event than had been present in previous starts. He further added, because of this, it had been the intent of the stable to obtain a position with cover, although he had not anticipated the gelding settling as far back as it did. Bearing in mind the comments of Rider C. Bayliss, in that after beginning only fairly, and it had not been his intention in settling as far back in the field as he did, Stewards took no further actions than to reprimand Trainer J. Bruce under AR100(1)(b) for failing to disclose that it would be attempted to have the gelding obtain cover.  In assessing the matter, Stewards acknowledged Mr Bruce’s exceptional communication in relation to this rule previously, and that it had not been the intention of the stable to obtain a position at the rear of the field.
