GENERAL
 
Race 2: Trainer D. Forster was fined $200 under LR 67(1) for the late declaration of rider on I’M HEROIC.
 
Race 4: HEELEVA DEEL was declared a late scratching at 12:57pm due to track conditions.
 
Race 1: TAB IPSWICH CUP TICKETS ON SALE QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1100 M
 
GOLDEN SUN – After being slow to begin, was then bumped and lost ground. Near the 200m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of TELLS ME TO, which was racing greenly and shifted out.  
 
SIVO – Raced wide for the majority. Raced greenly throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of gelding in today’s event, Jockey N. Callow stated that the gelding was disappointing and could offer no further explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
STAPLETON – Shifted out at the start and bumped GOLDEN SUN.
 
ROSE OF LIBERTY – Brushed on the hindquarters on jumping.
 
TELLS ME TO – Approaching the 250m, put in an awkward stride. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
VIALE – Awkward to begin. Near the 900m, momentarily steadied, when BALASTIER shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
After the running of this event, the track was downgraded retrospectively to a Heavy 9.
 
Race 2: RAY WHITE IPSWICH QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M
 
The start of this event was delayed after STEEVEE WONDERFUL became fractious in the barriers, reared, and became momentarily cast. STEEVEE WONDERFUL was removed and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. I’M HEROIC who was drawn to the inside of STEEVEE WONDERFUL was also removed and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. A. Campton, the trainer of STEVIE WONDERFUL, was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.
 
RUNAWAY TYCOON – Raced three-wide for the majority. Near the 500m, when racing greenly shifted out abruptly after becoming awkwardly placed at heels. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
STEEVEE WONDERFUL –Began awkwardly and was severely checked after making heavy contact with AIN'T TELLIN. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
UNEGA WAHY'A – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
WILL IT SNOW (NZ) – Jockey M. Cahill reported at scale that he was disappointed in WILL IT SNOW (NZ)’s finishing effort and could offer no further explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
AIN'T TELLIN – Shifted in abruptly on jumping. Jockey A. Mallyon reported at scale that in his opinion, AIN’T TELLIN didn’t handle today’s track conditions.
 
BONFIRE SPARK – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that BONFIRE SPARK raced greenly throughout. Over-raced for a short distance near the 800m when being restrained. Obliged to steady approaching the 500m.
 
WALSH BAY – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping THREE TEES. Raced greenly and became momentarily awkwardly placed at heels when rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 3: SEVEN NEWS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP   1690 M
 
BORN FEARLESS – Approaching winning post, had to be checked from the heels of RASHFORD, when that runner shifted out.
 
RASHFORD - Shifted out under pressure approaching the 100m before being correct by its rider. Approaching the winning post, continued to shift out despite the efforts of its rider.
 
CRYPTIC SOUND – Over raced during the early and middle stages.
 
PELE PRINCESS – Slow to begin.
 
FORGETS ME NOT – Over raced during the early stages. Approaching the 400m, was bumped by AMERICOLA (NZ) who shifted out to improve.
 
 
Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP         2180 M
 
The start of this event was delayed after ALIRAAJ (NZ) was loaded and became fractious in the barriers, rearing and becoming cast for a significant period of time. Subsequently ALIRAAJ(NZ) was declared a late scratching at 1:43pm on veterinary advice. CONTRITION, who was drawn to the outside of ALIRAAJ (NZ) was removed from the gates and underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on ALIRAAJ (NZ) to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
First: CONTRITION (NZ)– 12c win, 12c place
Second: INTENTIONAL LASS – 13c place
Third: CLASSIQUE GAL– 14c place
 
Trainer M. Kropp was advised that ALIRAAJ (NZ) will be required to officially barrier trial to the Stewards satisfaction prior to racing again.
 
JETPACK VERDI (NZ) – Jockey J. Orman reported that JETPACK VERDI (NZ) was disappointing when asked for an effort from the 800m and in his opinion may not have appreciated todays track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of a slow recovery.
 
CONTRITION (NZ) – Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure approaching the 150m.

WINTER THORN (IRE) – Raced wide during the early stages before obtaining a position in the lead near the 1400m.
 
BUMP'N'RUN – Raced wide in early stages before obtaining a position with cover near the 1400m.
 
CLASSIQUE GAL – Raced wide from the 800m.
 
 
Race 5: GORDON'S GIN CLASS 4 HANDICAP         1690 M
 
COOL ENCOUNTER – Jockey J. Huxtable reported at scale, that he was disappointed in the manner in which the gelding finished the race and added that the gelding may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.
 
DEMON DELIVERA – Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor stated that after beginning well and with no early speed being shown by runners drawn to its inside, he elected to allow the gelding to assume a leading position. He further added that DEMON DELIVERA raced keenly during the middle stages.
 
VALANTINO ROC (NZ) – Bumped at the start with ROCKED. Jockey J. Bayliss reported that the gelding may not have appreciated todays track conditions.
 
IRISH SALLY – Slow to begin.
 
SHERRIFF CODY – Raced keenly for a short distance leaving the 1300m.  
 
ROCKED – Bumped at the start with VALANTINO ROC (NZ) and a short distance later bumped with SHOWMAN (NZ). Passing the 50m, had to be steadied when SHOWMAN (NZ) rolled in under pressure.
 
 
Race 6: SCHWEPPES MAIDEN PLATE         1690 M
 
GLENRAY'S MATE – Bumped at the start.
 
LUCIFER THE CAT – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GLENRAY'S MATE and lost ground. Over raced during the early stages.
 
NOAH – Connections advised that NOAH would attempt to be ridden in a less forward position if circumstances permit. After being caught wide early, was restrained to obtain a rearward position with cover near the 1200m. Shifted out to improve leaving the 300m and bumped AQUA ROSA and was then held up until leaving the 200m.
 
RIDE FOR LUCK –After beginning awkwardly was then crowded between AQUA ROSA and MIRACLE SEVEN, which shifted out.  Held up rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance of RIDE FOR LUCK, Jockey R. Dolan stated that the gelding travelled well in the early stages, however, was disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer R. Heathcote advised that after discussing with connections, he would be reviewing the immediate racing future of RIDE FOR LUCK.
 
THE HINDUSTAN (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping and bumped with GLENRAY'S MATE.
 
AQUA ROSA – Bumped leaving the 300m.
 
ADELAIDE'S LACE – When asked to comment regarding the instructions given today, Jockey S. Collett advised that no specific instructions were given, apart from to allow the filly to settle where comfortable. After being caught wide in early stages, Jockey S. Collet elected to allow ADELAIDE'S LACE to stride forward and assume a position in the lead near the 1400m. Trainer K. Loy confirmed these instructions. When asked to comment on the above market performance, Trainer K. Loy advised that it was only the filly’s second start for the stable and was confident of a forward showing with the rise in distance along with the manner in which the ADELAIDE'S LACE had been working leading in to the event.
 
MIRACLE SEVEN – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that the filly travelled well however when placed under pressure was disappointing and may not have appreciated todays’ track conditions.
 
VIDYA – Made the crossing awkwardly.
 
RUBY LOVES CARROTS – Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover.
 
 
Race 7: TAB MAIDEN HANDICAP        1350 M
 
NITROGEN – Began awkwardly and contacted the inside barrier partition. Approaching the 150m, shifted in, to secure clear running.
 
UNITED FRONT – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority. Raced keenly when awkwardly placed at heels near the 900m, before shifting wider. Approaching the 400m, raced in restricted room between INSPIRATIONAL DIVA and KILNA (NZ), when attempting to secure a narrow run.
 
FONZIE ROCKS – Slow to begin.
 
KILNA (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 600m, laid out and away from INSPIRATIONAL DIVA and thereafter continued to lay out until approaching the 400m. When asked to comment on performance, Jockey R. Maloney advised that he was not disappointed with the geldings’ performance, and although he was obliged to race wide with cover, KILNA(NZ) finished the race well and would derive benefit from today’s performance.
 
SHOOT THE DIVA – Apprentice C. Graham was reminded of her obligations to desist in using the whip when out of contention.
 
ZOUGIRL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying clinical signs of heat stress and was treated by the on-course veterinarian.
 
HOME CREEK – Shortly after the start, shifted in and bumped UNITED FRONT.
 
INSPIRATIONAL DIVA – Commenced to race fiercely leaving the 1300m. Passing the 1100m, whilst over racing became awkwardly placed at heels after improving to the inside of HOME CREEK and then continued to over race during the middle stages. Near the 900m, had to be steadied momentarily from the heels of HOME CREEK which was taken in by SPACE JOURNEY. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Apprentice B. Wheeler reported that the filly may not have appreciated todays track conditions.
 
DILIGENTE – Near the 1100m, had to be steadied momentarily, when crowded for room by INSPIRATIONAL DIVA which shifted in when over racing, before being corrected by its rider.
 
WINTER'S PROMISE - Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 8: IMPERIAL RACING CLASS 1 PLATE         1350 M
 
AROUND THE BUOY (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards’ questioned Apprentice T. Fenlon in presence of RQ Jockey Mentor, R. Fradd, regarding her riding of the gelding at a point leaving the 1000m, when restraining to obtain a rearward position with cover and further losing ground from the remainder of the field. Apprentice T. Fenlon stated that rather than being caught wide, she elected to take up a position with cover behind CLAUDIUS, however when restraining to gain this position, she had erred in the amount of restraint she used, which resulted in the gelding coming off the bridle and losing more ground than anticipated. Stewards, in assessing the matter, agreed with Apprentice T. Fenlon in that she had indeed erred in the amount of restraint she used, resulting in AROUND THE BUOY (NZ) losing more ground than necessary, however given her apprentice status, Stewards chose to take the matter no further other than to note the circumstances and remind Apprentice T. Fenlon, not to leave her riding open to question.
 
BRASCO – Shifted out at the start and bumped CLAUDIUS.
 
ASGOODASYOUGETT – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that it was not his intention to race in such a forward position, however after being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding proved difficult to settle and rather than restrain further, he elected to allow ASGOODASYOUGETT to stride forward and obtain a position closer to the lead on the rail near the 900m.
 
MILITARY AWARD – Approaching the 600m was bumped by EASTERLY.
 
SOUTH SEA – Jockey B. Thornton reported at scale that the gelding may not have appreciated todays track conditions. Laid in under pressure on entering the home straight.

EASTERLY – Approaching the 600m, improved onto heels and shifted out and bumped MILITARY AWARD.

BLACK OPIUM (NZ) - Jockey A. Mallyon reported at scale that the filly may not have appreciated todays track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be displaying signs of a slow recovery and mild dehydration. Stewards will follow up with the stable in the subsequent days regarding the condition of the filly.
 
CLAUDIUS – Stewards permitted the gelding to race in a lugging bit, not a norton bit as advertised. Trainers’ representative for the stable, M. Seymour was reprimanded pursuant AR AR 206(3) for presenting CLAUDIUS to race in incorrect gear. Began awkwardly and was bumped by BRASCO which shifted out.  Raced keenly near the 1000m, when being restrained to obtain a position with cover.
 
 
Race 9: SEVEN FAMILY RACEDAY 6 MAY BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP       1200 M
 
CHILLIWACK – Raced in restricted room at a point approaching the 900m when HURTS SO GOOD shifted in whilst over racing.
 
PAIENBARA - Slow to begin.
 
RADIANT REMI – Bumped shortly after the start when HELIKEDEMPRETTY shifted in marginally. Leaving the 1000m, had to be restrained from the heels of CASROCK which shifted in to obtain a position in the lead. Apprentice C. Graham, the rider of CASROCK, was reprimanded for careless riding, pursuant AR 131(a) for shifting in when insufficiently clear of RADIANT REMI whilst steadying her mount. Leaving the 200m, was obliged to alter course to the outside of CASROCK to obtain clear running.
 
DON'T DISS AROUND – Slow to begin. Held up from the 500m until the entry to the home straight. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.
 
HURTS SO GOOD – Jockey R. Maloney reported that he was not disappointed in geldings’ effort as he felt it was difficult to make ground from the rear of the field given today’s track conditions.
 
HELIKEDEMPRETTY– Leaving the 1000m, had to be eased momentarily when racing in restricted room. Jockey N. Callow reported that the mare may not have appreciated todays track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KITRI – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that KITRI did not travel comfortably in today’s heavy track conditions.
 
ROCKIN' ARTIE – Rounding the home turn became awkwardly placed at the heels of HELIKEDEMPRETTY which was taken outwards by KITRI.
 
FIRST PEOPLES – Jockey M. Cahill reported at scale that the gelding slipped rounding the home turn.
