Race 1: Major General Bridges Class 1 Handicap – 800m

ANOTHER WHISKEY – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 11.40 am after being injured en route to the track.

CAST OUT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

ZIPPY ZOU – Slow to begin. Hung in rounding the home turn, obliging rider to stop riding and straighten his mount.

OKOMOTO IGNIMOTO – Slow to begin.

SPIDAZAM – Slow to begin.

ELUSIVENESS – Raced wide throughout.

ULTIMATE RUSH – Raced wide throughout.

PRIME QUEST – Raced wide throughout.

GUNNA EXCEL – Raced wide throughout.


Race 2: The Dardanelles Handicap – 1900m

As jockey R. McMahon was to be overweight, P. Romeo was substituted as the rider of CREDIT ONLY. R. McMahon was fined $100.

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for S. Fawke being declared as the rider of both COLOUR CODE and CLIFF’S DREAM. S. Fawke was replaced as the rider of COLOUR CODE by M. Gray.

CROSS THE STAR – Slow to begin.

COLOUR CODE – Tightened for room between runners shortly after the start.

CLIFF’S DREAM – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide in the early stages.

HIP TO BE SQUARE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

WITHOUT GRIEF – Raced wide in the early stages. Rider G. Goold was questioned regarding the disappointing performance. G. Goold stated that, in his opinion, the 59 kilogram impost on the gelding was a telling factor in it not being able to finish the race off today. Trainer Mr P. Jenkins agreed with jockey Goold’s assessment however advised stewards it was now his intention to give WITHOUT GRIEF a short spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that the horse must undergo an ECG, the results of which must be reported to stewards, and also must perform satisfactorily in an official trial.


Race 3: Lemos Island Maiden Handicap – 1060m

The start of this race was rescheduled to start at 1.47 pm to allow for Anzac Day ceremonies to be completed.

ZACARIAS – Slow to begin. Shifted in of its own accord near the 800m and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced. Became unbalanced when crowded for room by SWISS MADEMOISELLE, which shifted in near the 500m. T. Williams, rider of SWISS MADEMOISELLE, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

MANGO TANGO – Slow to begin. Made the turn near the 800m awkwardly and shifted wider on the track. Then raced wide for the remainder of the race.

MADAM BOLLINGER – Slow to begin.

ODE TO LUCK – Forced wider by another runner near the 800m and then raced wide for the remainder of the race. Rider reported on return to scale that, in his opinion, the horse failed to handle the tight turning track when forced wider by another runner and would be better suited on bigger tracks when able to be balanced.

GRANDE POULICHE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

SUPERDUTY – Lost its off fore plate in running.


Race 4: AE2 Submarine Class 3 Handicap – 1060m

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered for the late declaration of rider for GREAT TOUCH.

DON’T TELL CYRIL – Slow to begin.

SANDBAR JACK – Began awkwardly.

GREAT TOUCH – Shifted in at the start, making contact with DINA’S DRAGON , which in turn shifted in, making contact with the hind quarters of TEMJULIN’S QUEEN, which became unbalanced. In this incident, DINA’S DRAGON lost ground.

GOLD BUTTONS – Shifted in near the 800m, inconveniencing another runner.

TEMUJIN’S QUEEN – Had to be steadied when crowded for room by another runner near the 800m.

LEAD THE WAY – Became badly held up on the heels of a tiring runner from the 500m until a point near the 100m before it was able to be fully tested. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

VICTORIA NILE – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

OPTIONALITY - Raced wide for the majority of the race.

DON’T TELL CYRIL - Raced wide for the majority of the race.


Race 5: Chunuk Bair QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1200m

SCARLET JANE – Rider N. Day was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in until a point approaching the winning post, where it shifted in abruptly under hard riding, which resulted in DIVERSIFIER being severely checked to avoid that horse’s heels. In this incident stewards noted a minor shifted from SHARMAZEAL, slightly bumping DIVERSIFIER. N. Day’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 2 May and to expire at midnight, 15 May 2015.

DIVERSIFIER – Severely checked approaching the winning post.

MISTIE RUBIE – Raced wide throughout.

ARKROYAL – Raced wide throughout.

ZOE BAY – Raced wide throughout.

SHARMAZEAL – Rider S.Bogenhuber advised that the filly was inclined to hang out for the majority of the race.

NAZAR ROYALE – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer P. Duff stated that although this was a maiden event, he was of the opinion it was of a lesser class than the gelding had competed against previously, which he attributed to the improved performance. NAZAR ROYALE hung out under pressure over the concluding stages and shifted wider.

Race 6: Butler McDermott Lawyers Centenary Of Gallipoli Diggers Cup Handicap - M

AUGUST BISHOP – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a more forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly.

CASHED IN – A pre-race veterinary examination of the horse which shifted a plate en route to the track cleared it to race. CASHED IN underwent a further examination at the barriers and was cleared to start.

POLAR BLITZ - Slow to begin. Shifted in under pressure near the 50m, making contact with SURAH SURAH, which had to be steadied. Rider L. Cassidy was advised to exercise more care.

GLENTHORN AVENUE – Slow to begin.

CHAMPAGNE BLAZE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of POLAR BLITZ from the 300m before obtaining a narrow run leaving the 200m.

SURAH SURAH – Bumped and had to be steadied near the 50m.

COOLOOLA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

AWESOME SIGHT – Raced wide for the majority of the race.


Race 7: Lone Pine Class 1 Handicap - 1060M

GET BACK – Connections advised that from the wide draw it would be ridden back in the field. The horse raced accordingly.

BAY RUST – Slow to begin, and was inconvenienced shortly after the start.

LUNAR VOYAGE – Shifted in shortly after the start, making heavy contact with another runner. Steadied near the 900m when tightened for room.

RED WARNING – Bumped heavily shortly after the start. Disappointed for a run approaching the 200m to the inside of NOOR DROPPER and obliged to steady and shift out to secure clear running.

SMALL CHANGE – Steadied shortly after the start when tightened for room between runners. Raced wide throughout.

GREENBOW – Raced wide throughout.


Race 8: Lone Pine Class 1 Handicap - 1060M

The start of this race was rescheduled to 4.53 pm.

VO TREASURE – Tightened for room between runners at the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering a case of the thumps.

LUCKY DUCKY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout the race.

PUNTERS JOURNEY – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider S. Eilbeck stated that the horse travelled comfortably throughout the race, however once placed under pressure leaving the 500m the horse failed to run on as expected and, in her opinion, was disappointing. Trainer A. Williamson stated that he felt the rise in class along with the allotted weight in today’s event was a telling factor, and further that PUNTERS JOURNEY may not have appreciated not being able to lead and dictate on its own terms. Stewards noted his explanation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
