RACE 1: MOI MEMORIAL RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 800M

HIZOU – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

ANOTHER WHISKEY – Shifted in and away from JEPTOO a short distance after the start and made contact with WILLOW MIST, which in turn shifted in making contact with LITTLE MISS MOLLY, which shifted in inconveniencing PIE LADY, which lost ground. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, apprentice B. Appo stated that although the gelding was reluctant to race in between runners and race greenly, it was nonetheless disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

WILLOW MIST – Inconvenienced by another runner a short distance after the start. Shifted out and away from OTOSHI near the 100 when that runner shifted out to obtain clear running.

OTOSHI – Began awkwardly. Improved on to heels near the 800m and shifted out. Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 100m.

FAN THE FIRE – Began awkwardly, bumped by another runner and lost ground. Raced greenly in the middle stages and shifted in, having to be checked away from the heels of another runner and shifted wider.

JEPTOO – Raced ungenerously and shifted in a short distance after the start. Had a tendency to hang in throughout the event.

PIE LADY – Slow to begin. Inconvenienced a short distance after the start.

RACE 2: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

LORD JUSTICE – Made heavy contact with the running rail near the 400m and had to be severely checked when taken inwards by SHOWY ONE. Apprentice A. Hearn, the rider of SHOWY ONE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point he allowed his mount to shift inwards under hard riding when not sufficiently clear of LORD JUSTICE. Apprentice Hearn’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday 17 May and expire at midnight on Sunday 31 May 2015.

ROTHBURY – Slow to begin.

PASSION IN FLIGHT – Slow to begin.

SHOWY ONE – Faltered soon after passing the winning post. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon and found to have sustained a significant injury to its upper near hind leg, the horse was euthanased on humane grounds.



RACE 3: JOSH BEHRENS/LEIGH CAVANAGH RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 1900M

HARNILIAM – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice L. Attard stated that the intention was to ride the horse in a mid to forward position, however after beginning only fairly, was obliged to race further back in the field than anticipated and when the pace slackened in the middle stages the horse commenced to overrace for the majority of the event, which was a telling factor on the horse’s finishing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings and a swab sample was taken.

MORVEN – Slow into stride.

QUICK SPUR – R. Fradd was given the opportunity to comment on the horse’s performance. He stated that the intention was to ride the horse in a more forward position, however after beginning only fairly raced further back than anticipated and was not suited by the slow early tempo and was then unable to improve when the pace quickened from the 600m and felt the horse would be better suited on a bigger track.

BERNADECIO – After obtaining the lead approaching the 1700m the rider steadied the pace, resulting in CLANGORANDA, which commenced to overrace, having to be checked and shift out to avoid the heels of that runner. R. Goltz (BERNADECIO) was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

BOUND TO GO – Trainer B. Baldwin advised that it would be the intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin and unable to muster early speed, the horse raced wide in the early stages before assuming a midfield position one off the fence.


RACE 4: CARLTON MID MAIDEN H’CAP – 1060M

SWISS MADEMOISELLE – Raced three wide without cover.

UNIQUE PEARL – Slow to begin.

JUAN KOOL KAT – Began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground.

RIPPER NIPPER – Raced wide throughout.

RACE 5: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1060M

HIDDEN PLEASURES – Commenced to compound approaching the home turn. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, J. Taylor was at a loss to explain the performance other than he was very disappointed. Trainer L. Stratton was disappointed with the performance and was unable to offer any tangible explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a delayed post-race recovery and a swab sample was taken. Ms Stratton further advised stewards that HIDDEN PLEASURES would now be sent for an immediate spell.

PRIME QUEST – Inconvenienced approaching the home turn when another runner commenced to compound.

ROCKING EMPIRE – Inconvenienced approaching the home turn when another runner commenced to compound.

RACE 6: SOMERSET RACING BONANZA CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

BALAKLAVA – G. Geran advised stewards that his mount had a tendency to hang out in the middle stages and rounding the home turn.

FIRE WITHIN – Had to be momentarily steadied near the 1100m to avoid the heels of BURLEIGH BULLET which shifted in. Apprentice S. Eilbeck (BURLEIGH BULLET) was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

SUZY’S BOY – Went forward and contested the lead, in contrast to its usual racing pattern of settling in a back to midfield position. Trainer L. Birchley’s representative, Mr C. Cavanagh, was advised that a fine of $200 would be imposed for failing to notify a change of tactics.

GROOMED FOR GLORY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

AUBREY’S ACE – Raced wide throughout.

RACE 7: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1500M

BEST SHOT – Began awkwardly.

JOLIE MADELEINE – Shifted the near hind plate in transit. As the farrier was unable to replate the horse, stewards acceded to a request by trainer C. Cousins to remove the offside plate and for the horse to race without plates behind. A public announcement was made to this effect. Hung out rounding the turn out of the straight on the first occasion.

SENOR CARLOS – Began awkwardly.

GOLDIES RETURN – Hung out rounding the turn out of the straight on the first occasion and shifted wider.

THIS TIME LORD – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

LADY WIVENHOE – Blundered on jumping. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion hung in and had to be checked from heels. Laid out rounding the home turn, shifting wider.
