MOUNT MAZE – Raced wide without cover throughout the event.

Stewards opened an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding SESANCHO falling and dislodging App N. Ogura near the 300m point of the race, initial evidence was taken from the riders in the vicinity. The inquiry was then adjourned to allow App N. Ogura who was transported to hospital to be present.

Race 2: GOLDEN DOWNS BRISBANE CLASS 2 HCP 800m

SHINZO MASHURANBO – began awkwardly and shifted out.

COLEY – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied when overracing at heels near the 500m.

PRIME QUEST – Bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that PRIME QUEST would be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a steward.

Race 3: GOLDEN SHORES HERVEY BAR B’MARK 55 HCP 1900m

CRUSADER RABBIT – Stewards permitted App M. Schrapel to replace App N. Ogura.
TUDOR ARMOV – Steadied and shifted out from the heels of MANARIKI near the 1500m when MANARIKI shifted in and then steadied the pace. App B. Derbyshire was advised to exercise more care.

Race 4: GOLDEN LIFESTYLE CLASS B HCP 1060M

LITTLE PADDY – Declared a late scratching at 3.13pm on veterinary advice after the mare made heavy contact with the enclosure fence. Bookmakers were ordered to refund all monies invested on LITTLE PADDY, and apply the following deductions to the face value of winning bets.

8 cents for the win
8 cents for the place
10cebts for second

ROSE OF THE WEST – Crowded for room on jumping away.

FLAMINGO ROSE – Raced three deep without cover for the majority of the event.

JOLINDA’S LAD – Inconvienced rounding the home turn behind the tiring TIPSY TYCOON.

Stewards questioned Apprentice M. Murphy in the presence of Jockey Advocate S. Scriven over his riding of TANA CENTURY, in particular between the 600m and 200m where TANA CENTURY raced extremely wide and at the rear of the field. Apprentice Murphy stated that it was his opinion that the going was better out wider on the track and therefore elected to race wide at that point. App Murphy agreed with stewards that in hindsight he would have been better to obtain a position closer to the rail at that stage of the race saving as much ground as possible.
